General Demo Discussion/Impressions

Had a good amount of games last night on the PS3 demo and really enjoyed it. The gameplay's good, feels rewarding when you score, especially on Superstar difficulty. I was getting a lot of 0-0 matches but I suppose that may be due to the short game lengths on the demo.

But this demo is enough to convince me to buy the game this year. Might even do so on release day. It comes out a week earlier than FIFA does this year, so my impressions on PES14 will give me enough to decide whether or not to even bother with FIFA this time.

PES is definitely on the road to coming back as the '1 football game. 2015 will be better, it will have the basic necessity of rain for one!

few things I noticed that stood out to me after having played the demo the past 2 nights.

1. Gamespeed : Its strange to me but the game feels fast at times, and sluggish, slow and stiff at other times during the same game. I noticed when there are many players around the ball it feels sluggish, then when you do a counter attack the game tends to get very fast. Like going from -1 speed to +1

2. Camera : at times when the play goes wide the camera doesn't pan enough and the ball seems to go out of the visible area of the screen. This only happened a few times but it should be addressed.

3. CPU determined forward runs : This is the thing that bothers me the most. In every game there are instances where a defender, or midfielder just takes off and makes a dashing forward run at what seems to be 100000 miles per hour. These runs are not being performed my me, its just the AI/CPU that determines and picks the player. The most shocking thing about this is that the players that make the runs are not players that you would ever see do this. For example I've had Pirlo make such runs, Chiellini and Barzagli. In many occasions if I have the open through pass Im able to get them the ball and they break away for a 1 on 1 with the golie and generally score. These players don't make forward runs in real life, maybe Chiellini at times but Pirlo is a player who stays deep in the midfield and is the one distributing the ball. Its troubling to see him making these crazy forward runs at Messi like speed.

4. Curser responsiveness : At times switching players is sluggish, slow and non responsive, this ofcourse could be because its not the final built and the issue will be addressed.

OK ... so those are the negatives I've found so far, other than that the gameplay is great, passing is as fun as ever, goalies are very responsive, shooting is great.

Have you guys encountered these issues?

Is there really a difference between US and UK version? Any proof of this?

I don't know about the Euro version but the Japanese and US verisons are the same as far as gameplay. As for Ronaldo through passes? Its still very doable, just takes a bit more adjustment on the part of the passer to get the open passing lane. I've done these through passes regularly when the CPU does his super fast forward runs. For example I did a wonderful through pass from DeRossi to a dashing Pirlo who scored on a one on one like Messi. They REALLY NEED TO FIX THOSE RUNS! I'll be brutally honest, those super fast cpu runs kill the game, totally kill it, they're very dumb, unrealistic and make the game look and feel very arcadish. I can't believe no one else is complaining about this.

Ok here's a couple of thoughts that I think are important. I've heard both positive and negative comments about the demo and I kept wondering how opinions could be so divided. I downloaded the American demo last night and played about 10 games on it. I felt so disappointed. Everything was sluggish, the commands were not as responsive as PES 2013, the menus were slow, the passes were wrong, etc. I could not believe it, but I read a lot of comments of other people thinking the same.

Today I downloaded the European demo (which I downloaded from the Spanish PSN store) and it is VERY different. Both play at roughly the same speed, but the controls are much tighter and everything just seems smoother. In other words, it was much more playable. The American demo reminded me a lot of the first PES 2013 demo last year that had problems with the control responsiveness, and the European version was leaps and bounds better. I played another 10 really satisfactory games (I could not stop myself, which was not the case at all with the American version).

So just for the sake of it I decided to download the Japanese demo to check if there were any differences.

The Japanese demo plays much faster. Everything seems more frenetic about it. Whereas in the American and the European versions you are forced to slow down, receive the passes, control and then not come out as if your player is a missile, in the Japanese version there was no incentive to do this. On the contrary, it was as if I was actually encouraged to keep my finger on the R1 button. Controls were a little tighter than the American version, but not as much as the European version. I played 5 games, but I did not like it as much as the European one. The European version plays the best to me because I feel that I have more control over everything, that I can plan my attacks better and that I can do almost anything that crosses my mind. In the Japanese version this was not the case because everything was too fast and frenetic, and in the American version doing anything was just impossible because the controls simply did not respond.

So, I know all versions are labelled "Demo 2", but I have a feeling that within that "2" there were different versions: Version 1.0 (American), 1.5 (Japanese) and 2.0 (European) as they stand right now. Even the European is still a little sluggish in terms of control response, so I hope that they work that out for the final release.

For those who downloaded the American version trying to get a feeling of PES 2014 as soon as possible, download the European version and see if it is better. It was MUCH better for me. I hope this helps.
just here to say this is bullshit. I couldn't believe it when I read it but I actually checked it and the demo's are EXACTLY the same.

it's a huge mess, unrepsonsive slow. once you stand still there's nothing to do anymore. want to perform a trick? wel better no opponent is anywhere near you because it takes 5 seconds to start the animation and then we have glitches like players running away without the ball. I can't believe konami is releasing this crap. they should've released nothing and go all out next year. all I read online is horrible too. I played and bought every pes game since n64, but pes 2014. no thank you. fortunately gta 5 is going to be released.

After playing both demo's....pes is the one to get. Played fifa and had to go back to pes. You need to compete against the pes AI where as the fifa AI is.....well it's....crap!

I am saying exactly that. I downloaded the American version from the US PSN and the European one from a Spanish PSN account, and they were both different. Even their sizes are different, the European one is like a hundred MB bigger I think.

because the european version has different languages of course... my god use your braincells next time. they are exactly the same demo's.

Tackling is a major letdown very slow almost as if they can't be arsed ,and every time I win a tackle with x button I never seem to hold onto it this happens almost all the time. Another thing which bothers me is it seems to be easy on superstar and I have mostly went boca juniors having loved the last 2 previous pes games I feel slightly letdown by this demo but I so hope I am wrong .

Agreed...both releases are 100% the same. I just finished 5 games on both and there is no difference. The problems exist in both releases:-

Horrific Slow Animations
Slow Game Speed
Unresponsive Defenders
Cursor Change Problems
Floaty Shooting
Frame Rate Issues
Horrific Collision ..Easily robbed if a opponent is anywhere near you
Horrific Passing ...The AI decided where your passes should go

You should go ahead and buy PES .....Fifa still remains unbeaten this year. It is faster but much smoother than PES in all departments.

Its called Baby Step Dribbling ...get used to it. The ball cannot go 5 inches from your feet unless you press the run button. Then the player darts off in as unrealistic burst of speed.

Grossly unfinished.....it looks good on youtube ....until the play the game and realize that majority of the gameplay has nothing to do with your button press ....The slow AI transition decides ....hence you will lose the ball when your player turns back and forth and side ....when you only pressed left .....

I am shocked, Ockrass stating FIFA remains unbeaten ;)

For what it's worth, my opinion is go ahead a buy FIFA if you like ice skating and kicking a fly away plastic ball.

Yeah I was blown away when I was watching the YouTube clips but then I downloaded it and I have to say the more I play it the more it resembles FIFA slow tackling ,can't dribble feels like I am no in control whatsoever . But don't worry konami will sort it out ........next year if not then year after load of bull .

That's real mate it's forest gump he's in the French team but yeah this happens far too much

haha yes:tongue: Well ya it happens too much, multiple times in every game. When I have Pirlo or Barzagli doing this it kind of turns me off to the whole game.

Game speed can be adjusted in the full game
Yeah I know ... but that will not fix the silly dribbling system :(
+ sometime the player reaction is very slow .. like when you are in front of opposition goal and you prees square to shoot ... it takes 4-5 seconds for the player to actually shoot .. resulting in the goalkeeper catching the ball :realmad:

I can't
because it's very stupid and like you said "unrealistic"
