I laughed sarcastically, but I was really annoyed.
hotgunner's winning tactic:
I'll recommend this formation to anyone who can defend, keep possession (especially in opponent's half) and play the offside trap very well. Works best against AI and single multiplayer. However, you'll find yourself ripped apart in team matches.
Default formation: 4-5-1
----------GK----------
-------CB---CB-------
-SB---------------SB-
-----CM--CM--CM----
-LM---------------RM-
---------CF-----------
Formation A: 2-3-5
----------GK----------
-------CB---CB--------
-----CM--CM--CM----
-WG--ST--CF--ST--WG-
Note: My SBs become WG and LM/RM moves to the ST role.
Formation B: optional. normally I'll go for a 5-4-1 with my lone striker as the left winger. Great way to defend and waste time.
How to use: Use the default when chasing for possesion. Change to formation A and pass your opponent to death. Formation B optional formation as u deem fit.
Extras: Play a high backline but lookout for counters especially if opponent attackers in their own half. You really have to keep possesion very well.
Feel free to comment. Give it a try and u'll be amazed.
dear JMZ, i'm trying to make "brand new" formation based on Van Gaal system in the 90-ies. Yet i dont know was it 4-3-3 (with sweeper) or 3-4-3... tried a lot of times, but without success. So if you can help...
There are still many secrets to this winning tactic. For those driven by winning, PM me for full details. I'll list a couple of advantages and disadvantages here.
Advantages of the 4-5-1 Default Formation:
1. A solid midfield to backup your defence. You might want to put 1 DM and 2 CM instead of 3 CMs if you think that'll help.
2. Plenty of options to pass to the midfield once you regained ball possession.
Disadvantages of 4-5-1:
1. Lone man upfront. Crossballs/long balls are not going to be that effective.
2. Can get a little too cramp. Remember to use the offside trap and push up your line.
Advantages of the 2-3-5 Formation A:
1. Wonderful attacking options. You could have potentially 8 players in the last third of your opponent's area at one time.
2. Pressure on the opponent's defence. For seasoned multiplayer players, you'll know time and time again of opponents wasting time by passing the ball in defence. A 5 man pressure will give them a run for their money. In addition, the offside trap can easily frustrate your opponents who after being deprived from the ball for so long tend to launch quick counter attacks. Watch your line though.
Disadvantages of 2-3-5:
1. Very vulnerable to counter attacks. Unless you're a brilliant one on one defender or know this formation really well and know how to supplement it with the 4-5-1 or a formation of your choice, you'll be in for a thumping.
2. Can be too predictable if you're playing multiplayer. Unless you have a great football gaming mind, using another formation (Formation B) can provide different options.
Have a great time!
For Every formation, there is a formation that can potentially outdo it. I never stick to one formation...i dotn know about u guys...but i like being able to adapt to whoever i play.
