I have the same problem as you. AS my playstyle was counter attack with 2-3 fast passes simnce PES 2015, this year im struggling to humilliation cause when i defend, i cannot move any opponenet with physical contact even if i have Vidic i cannot move even an inche the most weak and short cpu opponenet its like body physics and collisions are completlyabsent this year and it ism too bad for me cause i used to base my defence style on physical contact. The most common goal i concede is when i keep my defender sticked to opponent striker trying to push him out of orbit when he tries to recieve a high trough pass he get its completey comfortably and then he shoots with a way that the ball or his feet pass trough my players body. So i cannot defende or cover the space effectivelly and im really bad in games vs AI this year.

It's all about a different approach now at defending. You have to walk a lot with your defenders and midfield to close the gaps and intercept long balls and those trough passes. Try to put pressure with more players when attacker is having possesion on your half. My backs and halfs need to run manually with upcoming opponents so Im changing cursor a lot. This seem to work much better. No more stepping in with your defenders at your opponents around midfield or AI will easily pass back and forth over, or through, your defence line. Maybe you can put offside trap on and change some other settings like man marking. I only use off side trap on but off side rarely happens to the AI this year.

Yeah exactly! Initially, I really struggled to defend the cpu, but I changed my approach. Because over the top passes are really effective in this game, you have to quickly close down players that can make those long passes and manually move defenders to clear/intercept those passes. Try to defend off the ball more and close down passing lanes. Anticipate where the pass is going to go. Now, I rarely concede goals. :D

I tried today master league, Co-op mode and exhibition mode...the game feels different. Didn't have any major issues, it felt more as an improved version of PES2017.

Same thing happened to me when I first played the demo, didn't like it then days later I enjoyed it.

If not mistaken last year they updated the game to improve GKs without releasing a patch, maybe they did something similar today

Recently I said this was the best version of PES ever made, which was scoffed at on this very thread. Well, that was based on offline (which is exclusively how I play) and I still think that it is the case.

However, I just tried on-line CO-OP with two AI teammates, and then a one v one online match and I can say that both were abysmal. The 3 player Co-op with three humans per team may be different, but what I played was impossible. The cursor changes etc were a complete mess. The one on one match had a noticeable one second delay to everything which was equally frustrating. So, to those I disputed, I apologise, you were right!

I think I'll stick to offline only from now on!

In previous titles if you were really REALLY good (i.e. amazing timing and spatial awareness for skills) you could take it around practically everyone yes you could would eventually get the ball taken off you but you could go on a mazey run where you take it around 4-5 people if you had the timing and read the game - as it should be! Finding success in the game for having skill and intelligence.
Maybe when the dust settles and after the initial "fuck yea PES is brilliant this year! Better than FIFA ... AGAIN!!!" fan-boy nonsense dies down people will hopefully come to their senses.

But surely that's more realistic?? Who wants to play the 'kids' who don't know anything about football other than trying to take it round every player of the opposition with 'skill moves'?? That is so boring and the complete opposite of a real football match. It's nice to go on a mazy run every so often, but I want realism. Watch a weekend of football and come back and tell me how many times a player takes it past 4-5 players and scores.

And, have you actually played FIFA 18? If you want a game that's exactly the same as the previous year that is it. I'm not a PES fanboy, in fact I usually buy both games at some point, just to mix it up a bit. But FIFA is lifeless and soulless compared with PES.

Sup Tomassi,

You have advantage here being that you have played PES for a couple of years now. Adapting to the game play will be a bit easier for you.

I have played the game and it remains to be a let down. The mechanics of the game is just not going anywhere. It is clunky, awkward and very very arcade.

Now, not everyone is looking for a realistic sim from Konami ...but they have not moved from a 16 directional game. So instead of playing to the skills ...I tend to play at the faults. Defenders running away from the expected passes so I use deadly thru passes which are quite accurate in this release.

Next is the shooting...completely horrific! ...why are they still using the horrible fake "thuds" when the ball is kicked. A couple years back they revealed a guy sitting in a room with a ball hitting it to replicate the shooting sounds effects.....it is still evident. Go to 8:00 in the vid to see.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6qEtEAhiSA

...Fifa is miles ahead of this game ...and that is not questionable.

PES has been dead but keeps fooling only SOME that somehow they have created a new game.

Fifa does not need to release a new game every year. They only need to fix a few issues and hopefully they do. So there is no question of which game is better. We all know which is ....unless you live under a rock.

This is no damn new game ....its the same old crap wrapped in a differnt cover.

Hi mate

I'm no PES fanboy, in fact, I usually buy FIFA as well because it keeps both games fresh by switching around every few weeks. I don't think that FIFA is better though. I find PES far more exciting generally. FIFA, for all it's nice presentation etc is lifeless and soulless to play. The ball has no weight to it. It feels like a beachball at times. There are aspects of FIFA which are better, of course. The directions of dribbling are freer than PES I agree. But I can't agree that its better overall. Maybe if they concentrated on other things rather than the kiddy favourite FUT mode then they would make great strides.

Just enjoy both games. After 5 months of playing one of them, it gets boring so it's nice to switch to the other.

Hey Tomassi,

You are not a PES fanboy...that is a word only used by fools. You have been here since the 2004..that is 13 years bro..(I should know) your respect has been earned...that makes you a fan of PES. You will never see those words in my posts.

As for PES ..its way too easy to play. I find in very boring and just downright poor. The game has not moved a single step since 2009. FiFa uses 360 movement and PES uses 16 directional movements.
Fifa has a flawless collision system, PES has none. I could go on and on. But at the end of the day it all boils down to personal preference.

Fifa is the most competitive football on planet earth. It is not a "Kiddies" game. It take great depth and skill to survive online. However, I can see every single mistake made when playing.
Not that the game does not have a few issues ...but the basics of passing, dribbling, walking, protecting the ball, running, turning your play back, switching player/wings ....pheww....i can go on and on...
Its all evident in Fifa.

PES is Str8 boring. Figure out the faults and play to them ...done. Players animation are the worst I believe in PES than in any sporting platform today. But ...get this....IT LOOKS REALLY NICE! :w00t
they spend 90% of the budget on glossy finishes. So there you have it.
It not worth more that $19.99 in the stores and will no doubt be a massive disappointment ...again.

I come back every year for the past 13years ...to the same rhetoric ....PES is shit.

Happy to see you play both ...keep playing and keep posting.

Peace

Pes is too easy? What level of difficulty have you played on? Superstar is pretty challenging and you can unlock Legendary. I have more experience playing Fifa and find Fifa really easy (offline). On legendary, I can finish 2nd in the Premier League with Middlesbrough by playing like Barca. If I play with Middlesbrough in Pes, the game forces me to play more direct and use long balls.

Fifa does not have a flawless collision system. The collisions are sometimes unrealistic and weird. I love how a player can caught with an elbow in Pes and reacts appropriately by holding his face.

Pes actually does a better job with basics of passing, dribbling, and protecting the ball. In fifa, shielding is overpowering. Shielding isn't easy in real life. Pes makes it more noticeable how more powerful players like Pogba and Zlatan can protect the ball better than others.

You know, Pes 18 has gotten better reviews than Fifa 18. Pes also won best sports game at Gamescom 2 years in a row. If I had to pick one game, I would still pick Fifa because of the licenses, presentation, and FUT, but Pes has better gameplay overall.

slamsoze,

On the contrary....my mistake! All of the PES from 4 thru to 6 were miles ahead of Fifa....no question there.

Pardon my mistake sir.

I respectfully disagree.

First point. PES passing is flawed by its fraction of a second delay. Shooting is also affected by this awful delay.

I will give a tip ...dont tackle your opponent ...just run or stand in their way and watch them fall over you trying to get pass. No collision system in PES period.

Next. Defending is horrendous. They are still making steps away from the ball on initial attacks while others just ball watch.

What game play? Wing runs and long balls? Come on man.....get serious.

Is this from your experience playing online and/or offline? Offline, I've never noticed the delay in the passing. I agree that shooting animations need to be improved. Fifa has better and more realistic shooting. On Pes, I might have to consider manual shooting.

"I will give a tip ...dont tackle your opponent ...just run or stand in their way and watch them fall over you trying to get pass. No collision system in PES period."

I've never seen this before either. Have you played Pes 2018? Is this from the demo or a previous Pes?

"Defending is horrendous. What game play? Wing runs and long balls?"

While Pes has some gameplay issues (over the top balls and crossing are overpowering), it's still more realistic. Being good at fifa is all about knowing how to play down the middle and using a short passing technical style. This applies to both career mode and FUT. Have you watched Fifa pros play or played in a top division on FUT? Almost no one crosses, relies on cutback passes, no long balls, and most use narrow formations like the 4-3-2-1.

To be successful on defense, Pes and Fifa require you to manually move your players to cover and close down passing lanes. Pes seems to require you to rely more on teammate pressing. Maybe, you're not used to this?

On Pes, there's more effective ways to attack than just wing runs and long balls. Most football teams do rely heavily on wing runs and long balls though. With teams that have the technically gifted players like Barca, a short passing technical style can be effective. You can even mimic how Barca starts Messi on the right side, but plays as a number 10 behind Suarez when they attack. Unlike Fifa, Pes allows you to use a different formation for the start of the game, with possession, and without possession.

First of all sorry for my bad English, it is not my mother language. Secondly although i consider myself a hardcore PES-fan but not one-sided i try fifa every year respectively with pes. As OCKRASS agreed after me PES for 3 to 6 were objectively better than FIFA but since 2008 pes went to dark ages and FIFA started to improve steadily.Every fan of PES should realise that FIFA is better in all ways , marketing, presentation, story telling (carrer mode vs Master League), licenses. I left for the end the gameplay cause i believe by now that both games have good aspects in their own ways. The difference is that EA every year makes some improvements and KONAMI builds every year or every 3 years from scratch adding or removing or recycling concepts through years. It is 2018 they are in pro leagues of game development for 15+ years. They should have a stable gameplay core by now. So for this year again i have to agree with OCKRASS Fifa is better, i haven't played it but i played PES 18 and despite the improvements the game is broken offline vs CPu it need heavy patching for AI,defence, cursor switching and the boring shoots. The only problem FIFA has until now is the succesful OP shoots with the crazy trajectories.
In conclusion KONAMI needs to make the revolution in football gaming again if they really want to repeat the golden era 3-6. With cheaty quotes "pitch is ours" king is back" and Adam Bhatti hyping they will only keep facing EAs back for the next years.

I’m glad I found this thread. I’ve been complaining about the Op’s Exact points on evo web and ppl just ignore me rambling on how good the game is. I feel like I’m playing in mud and my players are 85 year olds. It’s very frustrating

I agree with you also ...Konami just does not care enough about PES. I think that's the main difference between both companies.

Neither of the games represent a true feel of football. But as fans of the sport we understand that.

Now, I am not saying PES is not playable, because it is. Fans of PES who have only played PES will appreciate PES 2018. However, for a fan like myself who have immersed myself into Fifa for the past maybe 8years; coming back to PES seems like a game of Mario Cart. It is just not challenging. I am amazed that players find the game hard because if you figure out the mechanics of the players such as slowness to turn lack of defense, pin point thru passing.....it becomes very easy.
Compared to the competition of Fifa .....PES is a cake walk.

Now, other players do not like Fifa's up tempo game play. If you are not on Fifa at least 3 days a week ...you are dead. It is intense, but a lot of fun once you learn the game.

PES will remain in the rear view mirror of Fifa because of lack of support from Konami ...not its fans. They need to first overhaul the game engine to accommodate player 360 movement and go from there.

Thats where I believe Fifa distant themselves....they care a little more about the product.

Peace
