Correct Sizes for imported assets.

Ok started this thread to have a clean start, so people know the default game size vs the forums varying range of import sizes.

Now the bad news.

1. The game has a hard coded import file size limit of 5mb & a hard coded resolution limit of 1024x1024, but this is useless as you will find out below.

2. The game resizes everything you import, to the games default size for that element. (so a strip file will be resized to 384x384 even if your images is 1024x1024)

3. Logos are cropped incorrectly, what I mean by this is, if you import an image the right side is cropped (cut off) 2 pixels & the bottom is cropped (Cut off) 1 pixel.

4. Strip files are cropped incorrectly, what I mean by this is, if you import an image the right side is cropped 2 pixels (On PC this is put under the right sleeve) & the bottom is cropped 2 pixel (On PC/PS3 & Xbox this is put on top of the right sock), this its just bad coding or a testers mistake at Konami's side.

Info & Sizes

Now if you know how image resizing works, if you make something smaller it will be striped of detail & the smaller you go, blending of colours & texture elements will occur.

It's the exact same with the game except they use from what I can tell bilinear reduction & not the good kind. (softer kind)

So you will be saying where are the size?

The games default sizes are as follows
Chest logo = 384 x 384
Sleeves = 128 x 128 (each)
Shorts = 128 x 128 (each)
Socks = 128 x 128 (each)

Team Emblems = 128 x 128
League/Cup Emblems = 128 x 128
What I use when importing assets.
Shock Horror!
Chest logo = 384 x 384
Sleeves = 128 x 128 (each)
Shorts = 128 x 128 (each)
Socks = 128 x 128 (each)

Team Emblems = 128 x 128 (with a canvas size of 130 x 130)
League/Cup Emblems = 128 x 128 (with a canvas size of 130 x 130)

Ingame results from above strip sizes.

There is no better size since you can't change how the game works, I have spent the last few weeks testing all different size for each asset & it always comes back to the default sizes :-( & I'm extremely disappointed since there S**T!

only way to get round these limitation are to have a modded PS3 or Xbox 360 & use modded game files.

If anyone from Konami reads this, make them bigger, you have 2048x2048 strip assets for official teams, why not custom teams.

Edit mode problem/issues

Overlapping of textures, these vary from PC to Console.

List of problems.

PC
  1. If full canvas is used for chest logos, the right 3 pixels are placed on the underside of the right sleeve.
  2. If full canvas is used for chest logos, the bottom 3 pixels are placed on the top right sock.
  3. Centre isn't centre on chest logos. What I mean by this is the right side is stretched 3 pixels.
  4. When chest logos are native resolution, 3 pixels on the right side are not shown ingame.
  5. Bottom of the right sleeve image is placed on the top 2 pixels of the left sleeve.

Console
  1. If the full canvas is used for socks, then 1 pixel from the left side is placed on the left side of the shorts
  2. Centre isn't centre on chest logos. What I mean by this is the right side is stretched 3 pixels.
  3. When chest logos are native resolution, 3 pixels on the right side are not shown ingame.

Here you can download my PSD templates.

These templates are 2x the size of what the final asset should be, so resize to 384x384 for shirts & 128x128 for everything else when finished.

(as these are most noticeable)

Socks = 144 x 192 (each)

Team Emblems = 128 x 128 (with a canvas size of 130 x 130)

Results from above sizes.

Brilliant mate, no words for this, you are a star!!

Are you sure that league/cup logos sizes are 128x128? I have heard that they were 256x256.

imported T/CEMBLEM are 128 x 128 :-( same as all other PES games.

Ingame emblems are 256x256. (ie, ones Konami made)

Totally agree with you Rocky

I dont understand why Konami cant do something like First Touch Soccer on the iPhone where you create the Kits and then Download them and then have a list of collar options (For Pro Evo maybe)

Fair Enough on the Numbers as they cant add Premier League Numbers but they can add Adidas ones, Puma and Nike ones

If Pro Evo has the edit mode like the PC then it will get more sales but if Fifa stop them from having a perfect edit mode then theres a concern

I think the Resolution needs to be 2048x2048 as 364x364 isnt really that big

But when you put a league/cup logo in game... Do you did it with the sizes 128x128?

I do the following.

1. find the image I want in PNG format.
2. in photoshop I correct any aspect ratios if need be.
3. still in photoshop I resize the image to 128x128
4. still in photoshop I then change the Canvas size to 130x130
5. still in photoshop I then save said image as a PNG.
6. I then import the image into PES & just hit enter, then save to a slot.
7. reap the benefits of a non blocky logo.

now it also depends on the quality of said PNG if you have a crappy logo no mater how well you resize it it will still be a crappy logo. (Celtic) haha just kidding lol

OK, been redoing my kits as this games edit mode seems to be getting worse :crymore:

when importing images into the game to use as a Chest logo, if you fill the hole canvas it will put the bottom few pixels onto the top of the right sock, this is the same issue with Socks & Shorts.

also the bottom few pixels on sleeves are used ingame for the underside of the sleeve..

It, would seem Konami never checked there offsets correctly :realmad:

Here is a PNG of my template, with the area you need to cut out of your image, so it doesnt show on the sock.
