Death of dribbling

All they really needed to do to fix the dribbling past whole teams problem was make it so the average defenders stats werent vastly inferior to the average attackers.

In the end they made tackling easier AND dribbling harder which resulted in overkill.

It depends on what your playing it on but for PC threadstarter =100.

I got used to the dribbling a bit..but it's NOT..as sweet as the 3 previous editions

what levels are you playin on? Cause I found it veeeeeeeeeeeeery difficult to dribble on top player...I've never played this game on any other difficulty, but this time AI is not giving me space to play...F**K!!!

Go play online, watch how others play. You can definitely still dribble, but if you think Messi can go through defenses like in pes09, then no, thats impossible in this game now unless the other player is a 5 year old boy. But seriously, in real football when have you seen messi dribble from the midfield and score, he only did it once and it was against Getafe. That day he was on top form. Again, it was GETAFE, you dont see him dribble John Terry cause he kills him. Now dribbling in pes2010 is harder because players respond slower but that doesn't necessarily mean you cant dribble at all, just got to get used to it. Im loving the game by the way, 100 times better than 08 and 09

Well, obviously they couldn't, otherwise they would. Thing is though, put either of them up against a team that acts like the PES AI and not only would they beat each and every one of them, they'd also score four hat-tricks every game. The balance needs to be in the game and this time it's accomplished through lack of responsiveness and clumsy movement by the players. Understandable, but I wish people would stop trying to paint it as 'realism' or 'simulation', which it quite simply is not.

I agree with you - they've made the outcome realistic but only due to lack of choice because the mechanics are flawed.

Konami can't make you think like a real footballer which is the only way they could make the game truly realistic because you are the one choosing what you do, I'm always thinking 'yeah ill just sprint this way, fake shot, do a trick and then ping it' - not 'oh no I don't want to take a risk, I'll pass it instead'

But seriously though Ronaldo and Messi often just do whatever they want but most of the time they don't because it's a team game. How many times have you seen them beat 3 or 4 players and score a nice goal? Not like bobby zamora who has never and could never do anything like that, you're forced to play like him.

Check out George Best, when you watch clips of him he used to play like you like to do on pro evo, he cared much less about it being a team game.

In essence though I think we agree!

The dribbling is spot on, imo. Hardest it's ever been in any PES but easier than FIFA 09/10. I think PES 2010 have got the balance just right.

You can still beat your man but it requires timing, knowing exactly when to accelerate and letting the defender make his move first most times. It's harder to go on runs, beating man after man 75% of the times like in PES 2009, which was just down right ridiculous for game boasting realism.

Dribbling in this game is brilliant if you ask me.

Yea and when you play online, using the "com pressure" is very effective against dribblers. The AI will close Messi down and when he makes his move the guy you are controlling is already waiting for him in a better position, ppl need to learn this game is not just messi messi and c.ronaldo, other players exist also.

No. Players like Messi and Ronaldo are given the license to play the game as they wish on most occasions, so they can dribble and score at will if they could. Do you honestly think they can dribble past half the team and score when they please? if so then you are sadly mistaken.

No matter how good you are you can never beat 3/4 players at will every time let alone the whole team as you would on PES 2009. Even the greatest dribbler of all time; Diego Maradona could not do that most of the time.

True, this works a treat if you time it well.

Well, the main reason they cant dribble past more than 3 defenders its cause defenders use their body to throw u off balance, unless you are made of rock. They would rather foul you than let you pass, not a big yellow card foul but enough to stop ur dribble. This part of defending i think PES needs improvement, they body collisions are still very poor and you hardly see any fouls. How do u think John Terry, who is slower in speed and acceleration than Messi and C.ronaldo, can stop them anyways? body! throw him off balance. Which Pes was it that defenders kept colliding with you and fouling you but no cards, pretty only a few players could dribble.

It's not about running passed the defenders..in real life people have good ball handling and in this version it sucks....simple...

If your having probs against dribblers the best thing to do is play 3 defensive mids and when any speedy player gets the ball, back off, then call a second defender and keep behind our second defender. When ronaldo gets past that second defender your guy can jump in and tactle him quickly as he beats the second defender cos you know what direction he's gonna go.

Its an extreemly effective tactic and since ive started using it ive barely lost any games out of about 20-30 compared to before when i lost about half of my first 40.

I'm playing BAL where having a good dribble is a must because you do 75% of everything...so if that falls on his ass..u left with jack shit

^That's because the opponents can't defend and they rush at him. Bad mistake. Don't rush at him. Stay back and tackle right. But never rush.

I hated the dribbling at first. I couldn't go on as many mazy runs compared to Pes 2009 lol but I kept practising and now they're coming more often and the runs also look far more realistic then the sharp zig zagging runs in 2009. The timing of R1 is important and I feel you have to plan your commands in advanced whereas in 2009 you relied on last minute decisions cuz it was super responsive which is unrealistic.

I also learned the hard way not to be too fancy with shitty dribblers lol. I kept trying to zig zag like in 2009 with my crappy defenders and got thoroughly punished. In 2009 I can keep the ball with ease using defenders. Do the right thing and pass or clear the ball lol.

haha i remembmer the sharp zig zaggin runs of the previous games, which if im honest i did myself.

ive played around 10 games now against the cpu and around 5-8 against friends and dribblin is defo quite hard but u will eventually get used to it. its just the slow response times that gets me, when i turn right i expect the player to turn right then and there not after half a second which is the difference between getting past a defender or looking like a fool.

but im sure i will get there eventually, afteral ive hardly played it as im quite busy on another game (quantum of solace, in which i have 98% trophies just 1 left before i give it bk :) )

Exactly... Even with first touch passes or first touch shots, the ball control is terrible...

I have only played the PC version (I don't own a console) and the response times are alarming, many times you're in front of goal with a decent striker, pressing the shoot button like mad and the player just stands there until there's three defender to block a shot he could have easily made in real life...

I also agre with those who say the result is realistic only by taking away decision making from us, the AI pressure is ridiculous, I know it makes the game hard, but it's very unrealistic to have three or four players pressing a man who just received the ball, it feels like you're playing against 18 men, because due to the slow response times your only choice is press the pass button and hope it makes it through, in real life such pressures would need a lot of stamina and organization, and teams rarely do it because a quick long pass would tear that defense apart, yet stamina in this game is weird and quick passes are very hard to achieve...

I will keep playing to get the hang of it, though...

^ Have to echo that. It seems like all reaction times are a second to slow in pes 2010. When i press x the player reacts a second to late :( the same goes for square.. (unless doing first time passes of course)
But still when crossing the ball towards the ground inside the penalty area, the player just run the ball into the keepers hands even though i press square like a mad man..
