Defending tips for dummies

tackling is tricky (one reason i refer to the game as "broken") you have to hold A (360) to pressure the opponent with your player but you also have to tap it at the right time to put your foot in otherwise chances are your player will just run right by him.
Tactics play a big part. The AI will, for some bizarre and unfathomable reason ("broken"), pull your players out of position regardless of what formation you play so minimising this is essential to good defending. never try and track the ball across the field with one player, always try and use the zonal marking properly, switching to the best positioned player (hard i kno given the AI's tendancy to either deny you selection of the most suitably positioned player or have your players run in the opposite direction when not under your control "BROKEN!").
keep at it and dont be afraid to up the difficulty level. have been playing on 'Normal' since i got it and won about 70% of matches. Played friends for the first time the other day and, because they're better than the AI on 'Normal', i can now play on 'Pro' and still win at about the same frequency.
Keep practicing is the best course of action, and try to up the ante a bit. That shuld help too... eventually.

Best option i've found is to use R2 (PS3) & back off slightly. Against average players they tend not to be able to cope as they have to beat the man or pass. It gives you a bit more time to make up ground if they try to sprint & it's easier to takle with X without fouling.

A good player using someone like Ibra or Ronaldo will still skin you mind.

Im not that great at defending on this game but on pes 6 I was always very hard to score against. It's a completely different formula to keep clean sheets on the new game. Personally I try to maintain an element of control in defence, as opposed to letting the attacker be in the driving seat. Most people stand their ground (or even run towards the attacker) and go for a tackle, only problem there is the attacker gets to decided when to jink/pass/shoot cos he will invariably anticipate ur move quite easily. So I tend to back off back off back off back o. . . bang!! ive got the ball. Keep backing off and not only will ur other players scurry back in support but you will have the element of surprise as to when ur gonna make ur challenge. Its really annoying when im running with a good dribbler near the box and the defender keeps backing off cos u no ull have to do something soon and backing off forces the attacker to gamble. I hope wot ive sed makes some sense.

I think the lessons are starting to pay out.
Three times no goals conceded.3-0,2-0,2-0.

Just lost a game online with 0-7 talkin' about lessons to pay out.DAMNED.
That guy played my defense out all the time like it didn't fuckin' exist sorry but it's still the adrenaline I feel fucked and I didn't like it.0-7:realmad: Every time he got to the goal he scored an that wasn't a luck, he know what he was doin' and I could only weep with 572 ranking points.:crymore:

But anyway thanks guys for the hints and let's hope we all get better.

Also changed tactics:
--------------------------------gk-------------------------------

---------rb-------------cb------------cb-----------lb-----------

-----------------------dm-------------dm-----------------------

--------------------------------am------------------------------
-----------ss-------------------------------------ss------------

--------------------------------cf-------------------------------

With attacking arrows backwards on my backs.
And attacking arrows diagonally forwards on my second strikers.

Great and very good tactic for defending

But I'm still thinking about sweeper in the middle and transform de backs to wingbacks so you have an extra defender in the middle when one steps out.
You understand what I mean?

Yeah but you have to give up one defensive midfielder so what happens to that part then, maybe I have to give it a try.

I find that jockying(sp) by holding R2(PS3,PS2) or RT(XBOX 360) and moving back while defending helps a bit then as the get nearer just press X(PS3,PS2) or A(XBOX360) that way you have total control over your defenders:) Works for me.

yer, i wasnt a very good defensive player, but playing against friends who are at a higher level than me i had to practice defending. someone told me about the jockeying (R2 - PS3) and its worked wonders for me. most of my friends go down the flanks and then put a cross in. with jockeying ive been able to block about 60% of the crosses, so they have now started to cut in with the wingers and my defenders are always in the way. good tip if u want to be a better defender.
