yes, the first time I played on professional...I remember I was controlling Nani and the AI player was John Terry...with a yard on Terry, Terry was able to catch up to me...I mean that was ridiculous...so I took a break, played other games, but I had this void, that these games were so linear, after a while it gets boring, so I decided to play PES again...but this time on "regular"...much much better. But like a lot of people say on this topic, Konami has to improve the overall experience of the ML, the player stats, we need to be able to see how players are developing...do away with the chairman...it's just the little things that need to be tweaked. Have any of you played FIFA 12? and if so, as a pes fan, how does it compare to pes 2012?
I played a lot of FIFA 10 & 11 on the Xbox (PES on PS3) as I know a lot of people who play FIFA, so it was a chance to play online with them. I don't know many people who play PES, and I'm not brave enough to play it online against people I don't know in case I turn out to be nowhere near as good as I thought I was
FIFA is ok, there's some nice touches to it, like the range of tricks, Ultimate Team, and the lower leagues (which is great for a Crewe Alex fan), but something just never felt right about it. A lot of actions on FIFA seem to fit into 2 categories - it either works every time, or it never works, so I never felt like I was fully in control of what I was doing, and a lot of attacking moves felt more like luck than skill when they actually came off. I played a bit of FIFA 12, but I didn't like it. A lot of the attacking play was pretty much identical to the previous versions, but the defending is terrible. You have time your challenges to the exact millisecond, or your player ends up completely out of the game, or even on his face, just from a simple attempt to stick your foot out. This can leave gaping holes in your team for people to walk through (bearable if the person you're playing against is doing the same thing, but not so much if you're up against a decent player, or the CPU, which never puts a foot wrong)
I find PES gameplay as a whole, while not perfect by any stretch, feels more free-flowing and open. I'm sure I'm not telling you anything here you don't know already, but the AI movement off the ball (which doesn't happen in FIFA, unless you program it to do it), albeit a bit shaky at times, allows you to set up some good build up play and attacking moves, and you feel like a decent goal is a product of your own ability. You can have much more exciting games with other people on PES, unlike FIFA, where I've lost count of the number of 0-0's I've had with my friends coz you can't make things happen no matter how hard you try. As we've said, you play games to have fun and relax, and yeah, you want your football game to be realistic, but not so much so that you're playing out 17 consecutive goalless draws
FIFA started to make breakthroughs when EA borrowed elements of PES (like the tricks, dummied shots/crosses, chipped through balls, which all originated in PES) and put them into their own games, which Konami should be proud of, as it shows they were doing things right once upon a time. If they take what they know works, and sort out some of the changes they've made that haven't worked out, instead of leaving them in and hoping that new features might mask or counteract them, who knows, we might have a next gen version of PES4 or 5 on our hands, which were great efforts
I love the ML, always have. The challenge and enjoyment of starting a new game with the default ML players (Castolo up front, every time
) and building your squad up, but the cheating AI and some of the elements in this years' version (stop having reserve players coming to see you every 5 mins complaining about not playing, I have enough of that on Football Manager!), have made it frustrating where it doesn't need to be. Agree that you want to see how players are developing, and have some player interaction as the manager, but there a fundamental parts of it that need to be looked at before they start throwing extra management features in that make it a chore to play at times
