That's true. Germany out and Sweden winning against Mexico. I didn't see those results coming.
Portugal also had difficulties against Iran, the last minutes were so intense, specially after Iran scored the penalty. They almost scored again. Portugal was almost eliminated

many of the "big" nations needed lots of luck like Spain, Portugal, Argentina (France also a bit) - Germany also had many luck but not enough of it this time. No need to talk about what is deserved or not deserved because no one will talk about that in one week anymore... But i felt a little bit sorry for Iran and Nigeria, they really performed well compared to their squads in relation to the other squads in their groups.
I wait for what happens in group H where Columbia, Senegal and Japan fight for the KOs. I would like to see all 3 of them there, but that's not possible. Will depend on how Poland will play against Japan, do they want to go home at least with a win and fight although it's over (like Korea) or they maybe don't care and give the subs at least one game at the world cup before flying home...
For me the strongest teams by now are Belgium and Croatia. I don't want to overrate England because they won 2x, but they only played against Tunisia and Panama. Belgium also, but more impressive against Tunisia then England...

To be honest, I also felt a bit sorry for Iran. Too bad they were playing against my country, so I couldn't be cheering up for them :crymore:
I also feel sorry for Iceland. They draw against Argentina, and fought until the end against Croatia.

Hey germany and luck. There i must stay for my country. We play poor but nobody can say we are lucky. All big countries not play really great at this world cup. Portugal and argentinia are in the next round and i think argentinia didnt deserve it like germany. Portugal wins EM with 3 draws against the easiest group. Now i hope belgium win it but didnt think they do have 7-8 teams that have a chance and all of this favorit need a lot of luck to win at the end but that is something you always can say too the winner at the end.
And great speckkopf that you will make all teams again for pes 2019. Maybe it is a little bit less work with all data you have from pes 2017 and more players already in game with much more leagues in pes 2019.

In my opinion, as long as rules are followed (that is, as long as there aren't any referee's mistakes), we can't say a team does not deserve to win a tournament or move on to the next round.
For example, we can't say that Portugal didn't deserve to win UEFA Euro 2016. Portugal followed the rules and if they won it is because the other teams that faced Portugal couldn't do better either. The same applies for Argentina in WC or any other teams.
We can say that some teams deserved to move to the next round, specially smaller teams, since they made a great effort and played really well for their level. But can we say that they should move to the next round instead of another team, who had better results? For example, can we say that Iran, despite they played well, deserved to move to the next round instead of Spain or Portugal, who got better results (more points)? Same thing applies for Iceland/Nigeria and Argentina.
But of course, this is just my point of view

If iran scores in extra time iran goes to next round. But that often a little bit more luck. And i only say you need luck two too win a wc no team plays 7 games ans win 7-1 like germany against brazil. The best to show is like portugal wins EM2016 with a lot of luck i think france deserve it more.

And about argentina is like germany. Germany is out but i think argentina will follow after next round. They have big problem i watch there wc qualifier games. And i didnt know why they play with players like mascherano or hiquain with the goalkeeper they have bad luck with romero out but then you nominate Rulli and not play with 36 year old gk. Germany wins 2014 with a young and hungry team. But make the same misstake to nominiate too old players again like argentina.
i think argentina now is good in brain/mentality with last victory, i think if they can play like iran vs portugal, and like last match against nigeria in 1st half, france be no problem for us, france are only names , they dont play good football, see peru vs france, peru play better than france, and only win 2-1 over australia! and boring match against denmark, in 8vos can happen everything!! no one is favorite to win over other

I made all 32 squads for wc for myself and gabon, benin, dr congo, montenegro and cap verde for pes 2018.
We can play when i am back i travel thursday away for about 3 weeks. But when i am back not much time pes 2019 released

The big difference, Iceland had problems scoring goals. In EURO 2016, they surprised. In World Cup qualifiers, they had more quality then the most of their opponents in group.
Now in World Cup, everybody knows Iceland, everybody knows they are dangerous from set pieces, you don't give them many free-kicks and corners, and even throw-ins from Gunarsson are like corners... Everybody knows they are physically strong, so create majority in the center, defend crosses early.... i can not really express what i mean because my english is not that good but what i want to say is, the opponents now know Iceland better, they are prepared and they know how to play against Iceland, that's the difference, in EURO 2016 everybody thought that is a shit team and we beat them easy. That was a big advantage for them.
From those teams which had to go home after group stage, i feel sorry for Nigeria, Senegal, Iran and Peru.
Peru because, they should have won 7-1 against Denmark but they wasted so many chances in one game, if i hadn't seen it i would not believe it. They only failed because they wheren't efficient in the offense.
Many of the really small nations had no games since years... So for some still the same squad, i only have to recreate.... What was 1 week in research for 1 team could be 2-3 hours in PES 2019.... And MUCH more ingame players as well, that is for sure. I definitely want to do that much faster then in PES 2017.
To the rest: I think Germany had many luck against Sweden. Maybe penalty in first half, and last minute goals are always a little bit of luck in my opinion. But tbh, the game against South Korea could have ended the other way too.
But yes you are right, Argentina like Germany did not really deserve to survive the group stage, also France, Spain and Portugal did not really play good.
The best teams so far for me are like i said Belgium and Croatia, and i think Belgium really has a big chance.... I'm a bit jealous. Belgium is a small country like Austria when you look at the size, population and so on.
The difference is, Belgium invested much money in youth academies, youth coaches many years ago when austrian clubs spent their money in expensive players from abroad, like 30-35 year old former international players from Balcan region, Brazil, and other.... We called players "young talents" with age 24, 10 years back and buyed average players from other coutnries before giving a chance to u20 players.
I think WE could be like Belgium when we started to work on our football evolving earlier. Belgium made many great things in football. They brought out some really outstanding players, such a small country and they have upper World Class players on nearly every position. Courtois, de Bruyne, Hazard, Lukaku, Vertonghen and in addition Kompany, Mertens if they are in their best form, would be starters for nearly every other country in the world, they could definitely beat France, Spain or Brazil also.
