Got to get this!

Wow, looks awesome, the whole theme just melds really well, when I feared at first it wouldn't.

Just bought the Fallout 3 guide, nay, Tome. It is amazing. Going to start a new character today, and gonna blow up megaton =] I'm gonna live the high life in Tennpenny Tower, making my own guns, hacking computers and being an all round science geek this time.

Lets go =]

i've just taken up residence in a lovely penthouse suite in Tenpenny Tower. My goal of being a female evil geniuse is now one step closer. Level 4, evil, already around about 50 in locpick, medicine, science, stealth and small guns.

Discovered the perks of wearing different outfits to add extra points to all skills. Something i lokked over first time through.

This girl will be the sniping, hacking scourge of the waste =)

I would love to say that yes, it gives you various different charachter archetypes but unfotunately it doesn't =[ It gives three examples and what they reccomend setting your starting points at and such, but other than that, the internet is your best bet.

however, what the guide do is give you an indepth look into what each of the S.P.E.C.I.A.L choices actually do for your character with tables and all, so it is pretty easy to make your own.

For example here is my current girl and what the guide helped me decide.

I wanted to have a character completely different from last time, one that could hack into terminals, pick most locks in the wasteland as well as have great repair skills on the go.

S.P.E.C.I.A.L

6.8.6.2.8.7.3

Looking at the guide, I could see that the primary statistics that govern the attributes I wanted were Perception and Intelligence, so I set these to about 8. This gave me 18 skill pts to distribute each level, and a starting score of 16 for medicine, repair, science, energy weapons, explosives and lockpick.

Then I decided that I wanted her to be able to stealthily hack robots as well as be able to sneak in and out of each area, picking people off from afar with a sniper rifle or hunters rifle. Agility then was the target skill I looked at and I gave that a 7. This gave me 79 action points in VATS, small guns of 14 and sneak 14.

Now, I'd already decided that my character was going to be a mean talking bitch who would shoot first and ask questions later or use force to get what she wanted. Because of this I knew that charisma was not going to be something I needed, so I knocked that down to 2.

Luck would also not be a major factor for her, as anything she see's, be it unclaimed or someone elses property she would take, so I gave her luck of 3. A High small gun skill coupled with Better Criticals at lvl 16 more or less negates the need for luck imo.

Thusly, I gave endurance and strength 6 each as they are key statistics. Strength 6 gave her 210lbs of carry weight, something that needs to be high while exploring. Endurance 6 gave her a starting HP of 220.

Finally with the GOAT exam I Tagged Small Guns, Sneak and Lockpick as my main skills to give them a boost.

Jonno, which of the DLC packs have you played? I assume you're playing the game on 360?

EDIT: Almost certain you're playing it on 360 having seen your sig.

Yeah, I am on a 360.

I've only played Operation Anchorage so far, I want to download The Pitt asap, but seeing as I have started a new character I will probably wait around for a bit.

O:A is pretty good; it takes you into a virtual simulation of the american fight back againts China. It is extremely Linear with barely any room for doing things how you want to do them. There are 3 (4 if you count the mini mission to start it all off) missions in the DLC, and they are pretty varied. However, it probably will only last you 2-4 hours at most. Also, if what you like about Fallout is the exploration and discoveries as well as the whole end of the world vibe, then this really is a stark contrast to what you love.

That is not to say thay I did not enjoy playing through this though. I enjoyed the setting and the visuals that come with snow =] plus the rewards that you get after finishing the DLC are pretty damn good. The Gauss Rifle and Chinese Stealth Suit will become part of your *must carry* equipment from the end of the DLC to the end of the game (well it did for me).

All in all, I would recommend buying this on disc with The Pitt as on it's own, O:A may not be worth it for everyone, but £12 for two DLCs, a saving of £2 could make it a bit more worthwhile (especially as The Pitt is supposed to be pretty damn good).

Edit - I will be waiting for Broken Steel and Point lookout as a 2nd disc based release is coming out at the end oif the month, Though Mothership Zeta will only be DLC and in the GotY edition.

I'm about 60% of the way through Operation Anchorage I believe - I've just blown up the two fuel tanks at the Chimera Armor Depot and am now off to the place where those bastard Chinese Dragoons are - I'm sitting outside the Mining Town.

Being on PC, I've already got the first four DLC packs as of yesterday afternoon. O:A has made me want to start playing Unreal Tournament again though - which as you say, makes it completely at odds with what you'd normally expect from Fallout.

Fuck yeah, the Dragoons ambush you pretty bad and make you there bitch there. Took me two or three attempts to make it through there as the first time I had no idea what the hell was going on and already had low HP so I lasted a few seconds lol.

The second was a suicide run just to find their locations so I could sneak in on my third and pick them off before they ambush you.

The last mission is a real blast to play, and again, feels completely unlike anything in Fallout 3.

I've just been massacred by the dragoons inside the compound. They're in for it later.

And they were :smug:

I keep coming up against arguably the toughest opponents in the game due to the number of them: Super Mutant Overlords which were introduced by the Broken Steel add-on. They've got more than twice as many hit points as Deathclaws and unlike the latter, don't have a specific weakness. Add that to the fact they use Gatling Lasers or Tri-Beam Laser Rifles which both do significant damage and you're in the shit the moment you see one which for me is every five minutes right now.

I fired up Fallout 3 yesterday, for the first time in a long time (months). It's such a great game. I have to complete it and then perhaps look towards some of that DLC.

I encountered one of those Wastelanders who have been unfortunate enough to have been strapped to the teeth with explosives. I encountered one of them before, and attempted to disarm the explosives, to devestating effect as they exploded! So I opted to leave these explosives alone but, then the Wastelander ran off. Anyway, my query is; What skill is required in Explosives to help these poor sods, by disarming their ticket to their very own personal fireworks display. I believe I have 30 in Explosives (as it was enough for a certain bomb disarming quest).

Probably 50. Can't say I've come across any explosive-laden wanderers though I've come across the mad preacher who blows an alleyway he's rigged with explosives to pieces if anyone dares try to come near him.

One oddity I did come across: Near the Republic of Dave I saw a group of raiders who were "beating up" someone with a shovel or sledge. Assuming this to be one or perhaps two wanderers they'd happened upon, I fired into the group. Only by the end of the firefight when checking the bodies - and assuming the wanderer(s) I'd try to save were murdered - did I find the only bodies to be those of the raiders I'd killed. There were enough of them for me to believe the entire scenario was raiders trying to kill each other in the first place. I really should have saved and then re-loaded to check it out again.

Aye. I've heard about the Raiders who can be found to be beating down one of their own, a fello Raider, with baseball bats and the like. I have yet to come across such an act, though. But I did find a video of the aforementioned act, on YouTube. Here is the LINK for those interested.

I got ambushed by a Yao Guai yesterday. I was just outside Megaton and the beast was flying through the air before I even knew I was in danger. I heard it coming from behind but, by the time I turned around it was already right there. I cripped one of its legs but, it still moved quite swiftly, before a couple of shots to the head snuffed its life out.

I was killed shortly after that, though, by an exploding car. I got surprised by a Raider and took cover behind a car, which the Raider in question decided to riddle with bullets, and before I could take more than two steps it was boom town death. So I started just outside Megaton (auto-save) upon reload. I was going to take out my frustration on that Yao Guai that I knew was out there. But I found it engaged in a scuffle with two Brotherhood Outcasts. I make a bee-line towards the scuffle as quickly as I can, to get into firing range, fearing that those Brotherhood Outcasts were going to steal what should've been my kill, and my experiece. But, no, the Yao Guai took both of them down! Beheading one of them in the process! I finished the Yao Guai (which still had a decent gathering of hit points) off and gathered up the Brotherhood Outcast armor and weapons.

I also came across a friendly Giant Radscorpion, which simply cowered in a corner if I got to close.

Cheers for that, at least I know for sure what happeend. I love this randomness and am glad I have decided to get to at least level 28 before continuing with the Broken Steel DLC (the installation of which raises the level cap from 20 to 30).

Animal Friend has to be one of the best perks I chose. Not having to fight groups of Vicious Dogs or Yao Guai as well as those bloody Mole Rats is brilliant. I've even taken down a couple of hunters I've seen trying to kill some of my "friends".

There are some great random stuff to see in this game.

I once saw a pair of enclave soldiers advancing on my position, so I took them down with relative ease. I went over to take my spoils but when I took the power armour off them I discovered they were actually Raiders wearing it. I walked around the immediate viscinity and found an enclave camp with a dead officer, two dead enclave soliders in armour and two stripped.

These two bad ass mofos had only gone and wiped out an enclave camp for me lmao, I wish I could have seen that take place.

I love how a Deathclaw actually stopped chasing me because an Enclave Soldier caught its eye so it went to kill that first and then continued the hunt.

I also like how I got Dave from the Republic of Dave killed by Deathclaws on purpose :smug:

Earlier games in the series had many random encounters so the fact Bethesda continued that is great. I didn't play Oblivion as long as I've played this and therefore came across only very limited random occurrences.

Can't wait for the next Elder Scrolls game if it goes along the lines of Fallout's interface. Oblivion didn't match up to Morrowind in a few ways which was bitterly disappointing in the end.

Probably the best game I've played on my 360, just so much to do.

Just out of curiousity, how many bobbleheads have you guys found? I've only got 3.
