No, I don't like it and ofcourse I prefer PES. But let's see what EAsports conjure up for this year. I've seen a few vids and a few previews, looks fine but still lacking in the gameplay. But the presentation and license as always, is great.

For a start, they got rid of that "this is the season" crap, which I always found useless.

Also the cover stars are Ronaldinho (Barca, most areas), Cristiano Ronaldo (Man United, UK), Andreas Ivanschitz (PAO, Austria), Tranquilo Barnetta (Leverkusen, Switzerland), Miroslav Klose (Bremen, Germany).

The gameplay video looks alright but when they score, the ball or goalnet rather looks solid, it doesn't even move. The celebrations are stil crappy too.

FIFA 08 Features:

IGN.com said:
Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) today revealed the tremendous depth of gameplay features in EA SPORTS FIFA Soccer 08 for Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION3 computer entertainment system which will create a soccer experience that matches the complexity, finesse and beauty of the real-world game. FIFA Soccer 08 challenges players to master the skills required to play like a pro soccer player. Fans around the world can experience the same highs and lows of real-world players and tackle the challenges they face on a daily basis. FIFA Soccer 08 puts you on the pitch to defy the odds, perfect your skills, elevate your game and rise up to win glory for your club.

The FIFA Soccer 08 next-gen gameplay engine, built to maximize the power of Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3, delivers animations and ball control that is so responsive you feel like you are actually on the pitch. Players in FIFA Soccer 08 now benefit from A.I. so smart, it features a 35-point decision engine which enables players to process multiple decisions and reactions in real-time. The A.I.'s dynamic 'Threat Map' system captures the excitement and realism of soccer. Players are now aware of their surroundings, reacting authentically to threats and opportunities to make intelligent football decisions.

Now with the FIFA Soccer 08 shooting system you can enjoy even more control and precision in front of the goal to become a true marksman. A true next-generation ball-striking engine calculates shot success by combining an almost infinite number of different contexts, including ball spin, pressure from defenders, player attributes, and even air pressure to recreate the drama and unpredictable nature of shooting.

For the first time ever, fans playing FIFA Soccer 08 will face the pressure to improve their game that real-world players endure every day. A new play mode called Be A Pro locks you in the role of a single player and challenges you to master the same disciplines as a real soccer player—from positioning and tackling to reading the field and passing.

"This year, FIFA Soccer 08 takes its second step into the next-generation. Last year, we kicked off the next-generation by introducing a new engine and stunning ball physics. This year, we are introducing new gameplay, new modes and a new feeling of soccer finesse," said Andrew Wilson, Executive Producer for FIFA Soccer 08. "Be A Pro forces you to think and react like a professional player -- you will experience the whole range of emotions players go through during the course of a game. This feature, along with advancements to our gameplay engine, will deliver on our promise of authentic soccer gameplay."

FIFA Soccer 08 introduces skill moves with a true next-generation organic 'building-block' system enabling you to combine tricks and skill moves together to recreate signature moves from the real-world superstars or define your own style of play. Animations can be interrupted at any time to transition into a new move, enabling you to read and respond to the defence, just like real life. Master the skills to break down the defence, elude your marker and lead your team to victory.

The award-winning Interactive Leagues feature that was first introduced in FIFA Soccer 07, now makes its debut on Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3. Represent your club online against your rivals throughout the season in the F.A. Premier League, Bundesliga, French League or Mexican 1st Division. When they play, you play.

"The Interactive Leagues is the most successful online tournament we've had for the FIFA franchise and I am thrilled to bring it into this year's next-gen game. As a Leeds United fan I was pained to see Manchester United win the first Interactive Premier League last season. However, I'm looking forward to redressing the balance this year through FIFA Soccer 08," said Joe Booth, Producer for FIFA Soccer 08 on Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3. "One of my favourite things about Interactive Leagues is how it connects me and the development team with the FIFA gamers via our weekly in-game podcast. We have just broken the one million downloads mark and it's been a fantastic way to interact with other fans, share experiences and answer questions."

In addition, FIFA Soccer 08 is dramatically more real and exhilarating with the inclusion of 620 licensed teams, 30 leagues, and more than 15,000 players making it 20% larger than FIFA Soccer 07 on current generation formats.

FIFA Soccer 08 is developed by EA Canada in Vancouver, B.C. It is scheduled for worldwide release this autumn on the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system, the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, Wii, Nintendo DS, PSP (PlayStation Portable) system, PC and mobile. EA will reveal the specific features available in the PlayStation2 computer entertainment system, Wii, Nintendo DS, PSP system, PC and mobile versions in the coming weeks.

I'm not expecting anything amazing, the content is there, but the gameplay will no doubt, still be lacking.

Fifa is so shit. I think the gameplay will never change all they can do is add features like classic teams. I cant see how they can change gameplay anymore. There are so many "glitches"(i guess you can call it that). Some from this years is the Henry/C. Ronaldo speed cheat, Every freekick is goal and the "fifa goal" where the goalie makes a save, but the rebound always goes to the attacker. If they can change all that bull shit, it might be a decent game, but fifa is to movie like.

Pardon me.

NYRB you are spot on with those free-kicks, they're always result in a goal.

They get better every year, bercause they copy Pro Evo which in my opinion is a good move because they already have the presentation. I wouldn't mind if they came closer, might give Konami a good warning to finally throw around things rigourously.

I guess you should try UEFA CL then. Heard its the better version of FIFA 07 (360 ofcourse) and most glitches fixed.

Precisely. FIFA is certainly improving in the gameplay aspect to be more like Pro Evo, reducing the amount of fat bulky players who can shoot anywhere, curve it like hell and find the top corner. I haven't played the last 2 FIFAs so I'm unsure of its most recent progress, but in '03 there was a case of repetitiveness, seeming as though you could only score a few types of goals i.e. no matter how or where you hit it, it always went to the same place, and keeper did same thing. I'm sure that's been stamped out by now.

With presentation, FIFA is top notch, outclassing Pro Evo in every way. The amount of licensed clubs/players are unbeatable, and although the master league is very good, it seems a tad old now, and should incorporate how FIFA does career modes with more leagues, and finally £ instead of pes points. Another glaringly better aspect to FIFA, albeit a small one, is the music. I'm so sick of the Jap-pop PES has thesedays, I thought we were going to get real progress after Queen in 2, and even Kasabian in 5. Obviously not.

Final thing, graphics. Is it me or are PES graphics better? A fair few people have gone on about FIFA having superior graphics, but I've always found the faces not only to be more realistically looking to an individual player on PES, but also more human like.

Basically to summarise, read what Barry said ¬_¬

Well if you patch your PES then you have the best game on the planet. I dont, which leaves me with the next best thing PES for 360. I need konami to come though this year.

Nah man, I also agree with you. I'm sure 80% of the forum will agree with you, PES graphics are much better. FIFA has always been dis-proportioned if there is such a word. It really looks bad. And even if they have let's say 15,000 players in their database. They can get 1000 of them who are the superstars with the real face while the rest get that crappy default face.

But yes, they are improving.. this should motivate Konami.

First It Giveth
My friend summed up FIFA a few months ago. We had been playing Pro Evo for the last three hours, and I decided that we needed a change of game. So we booted up FIFA 07, got into a match and the first thing my friend said was "Why are we playing football with little plastic men?".

Enough said really. And I'm afraid that the graphics in those two videos look no different.

Uhhh... Public Announcement. I have just bought UEFA CL on 360. Do not slate me just yet as i am one of you PES fans. I'm kinda bored and been hearing all this positive feedback on UEFA CL and how i should get my hands on a Next Gen footy game, which i just did. Thought i'd check it out and probably kill time til PES 2008 is out!

I do actually think that Fifa 2008 looks quite good and I will be purchasing it.

But, whether this is biased or not, it cannot compare to PES. Especially in gameplay. But, I think that Fifa 2007 was the best Fifa in a long while, and it had decent gameplay. But then you just put on your Pro Evolution Soccer 6 and realize just how brilliant PES' gameplay is.

FIFA 07 on 360 I thought was actually quite a decent game. Freedom of movement was excellent as was the Manual Passing system.

PES6 brilliant? you mean with the AI Cheating and the bullshit 89th minute winner the CPU scores with a cross and header?

I wouldnt write off FIFA 08 it sounds very promising and after UEFA CL on 360 (which was pretty decent) I am looking forward to seeing how they have moved FIFA on.
