Ok i am new to this forum and so nobody probably cares what i think of this game but here it goes...

I have been playing Pro Evo since the 1st ISS and without tooting my own trumpet i tend to do well at all of them *cough* :-D

i have got this the 1st day it was available and have played this game TO DEATH!! and i am still finding something new almost everytime i play!

ok heres the breakdown for y'all

Like everyone else i went into this game trying to play it like PE4 and u still can to a certain degree for obvious reasons... but for about 5 games i just could not put my finger on it but this game felt different and not just slightly different MAD different. then i played another game and pin pointed everything here we go...

The 1st Thing that knocked me back was the speed, it felt dramatically slower and took me awhile to get used to. Now that i have had time on it i feel it is a good speed and makes the whole game feel more streamlined and realistic u find urself thinking moves and passes ahead and makes the game feel a lil tactical and exciting lol

The Dribbling is SO different it hurt me, i was a dribbing king and would often love 2 over dribble and get cocky and now i was really struggling with the dribbling, it is tighter control an with R1 knocks it so much further than ur used to. After getting more used 2 the dribbling my hot skills on the ball are back and u can really do some nice things now... u really notice the difference from player to player more now to... C.Ronaldo is SICC i took on 3 defenders on the trot and slotted a shot in2 the top right hand corner almost having an orgasm in the process :-D i have yet to find the new moves but loving the dribbling none the less..

The shooting felt very different to me also, after slaving myself to the game however i am on the higher arc of the shooting learning curve and starting to love it more than all previous games, because of the shooting feelin harder when you do score it feels better than ever and you can really scrore some amazing goals now. I scored an unreal goal with van nistroy last nite, build up play and rooney passes it to nistroys feet with holding R1 and turning outside the last man i run onto the knocked forward ball and smash a beauty in off the crossbar this game just keeps impressing me :-D i need to practice the R2 shot however. other differences to shooting is the chip shot is harder to perfect.

The whole control of ur team feels smoother too. The Computer AI is greatly improved while not perfect its on its way and the way ur keeped reacts to balls is alot better while scary as fuck at times when u think u have it under control and ur rampaging keeped comes out a mile embarassing ur team like david james.

The ref seems to be on the ball (sorri poor pun) most the time, however offsides and fouls run amok making games have a more choppy feel to them at times.

freekicks are back to PE3 standard but a lil harder i feel.

Headers and volleys are alot easier as it seems to be down to timing again and u can score some great goals now with more control in the air (or so it feels like) however the crossing is not as pin point as PE4 but wen the cross and the heads meet its like sex on a cd.

This game takes a little while to come to grips with but once you have going back to any previous games is just not an option, the game is so subtly different in some aspects and completely different in others that it is well worth the money.

BUY THIS GAME NOW PLEASE!

I care about how you feel about this game. In comparison with PES4, the chip with R1 is in WE9 way more realistic. In PES4 I could score them from almost any angle and distance. In WE9 it really is hard to do, but they look amazing when they do go in..... It is a great game, because it is so hard to learn. I find it hard to score in this game, my field play is good and I do get changes enough. But finishing is still hard, and then I mean finishing in the box, not outside the box.... I will learn and own this game, it will take me a while to get to the level I have in PES4 or WE8LE, but I will get there. And then this game will be even better. I just can't believe how Konami managed to reach this level of realism, and changed the game in a way that a die-hard pro player of the serie(s) has to start playing at 3* to learn this new game. My first couple of matches against the CPU I wasn't capable of scoring against the CPU. I really didn't know what was happening, but it really feels so different. Now I'am used to this game. Yesterday I went online and played some PES4 against some guys from another site of PESplayers and I've noticed that I am a better player now in PES4. My style has changed because of WE9. Pretty strange....

I haven't got the game yet (still waiting for it from yes-asia) but why does the game have to be easy on 3 star? To use your wording, turned around slightly... If the player finds 3 Stars too hard, then take it to 1 or 2 stars. The way you seem to like it is to have 1 and 2 stars redundant but ideally, everyone would start on 1 star and work up to 6... not start on 3.
I agree with this. I have had WE9 for about a week now, haven't played much but often I do get frstrated. The slickness is gone, which in someways is good because winning 5-0 everytime and having 39 shots on goal gets a bit boring I must say. However on the other hand, not being able to make a 5 yard pass to your full back with no pressure is a bit over the top for me. I just hope that PES5 has talot of the same realism attributes but a little faster. For a while I thought it was my controller. But know I realize I just suck at this game... :D

played the game for about a week now... and man, its still sooo hard to score. i totally cain in 6, 7, and 8 and can almost score at will. But in we9, i often find myself very frustrated. Sometimes i dominate a game and have some very good chances and manage to hit the bar BUT fail to score!! ...THEN out of nowhere the opposition scores an ulimate goal to make you lose all hope cos its almopt impossible to score back.
That said, i still love this game... its much more realistic than we8 But one thing that pisses me off is there are TOO many stoppages... game doesn't really flow.
Still.... its a GREAT game.

Ok, i feel the rating system is still messed up a bit. I just finished a game on 6 star, I was chelsea and the computer was Middlsbrough (master league game), and computer team had no shots on goal at all, yet my defence still only had a high rating of 6.0, some 5.5. Now I know the rating system is based on many different factors, but come on, they let no shots at all, that shoudl at least be a 7.0 for each of them in my opinion, because that is pretty impressive. And even when a player has a goal in the game, they still can get a 5.5, which I think is too low.

I'd agree with that. Some odd ratings handed out. I hope the Man of the Match isn't the guy who scores the most goals like it used to be in FIFA. Sometimes other players can deserve it more.

just noticed probbly a bug in the offside rule. my player(crespo) was certainly offside when the ball was played through to him, however it bonced of the feet of a defender and came upon the path of crespo, crespo SHOOTS.... and the goal was allowed :)

no he was certainly offside as i intended the through pass to him but it hit the feet of defender. my mate was fuming after the goal. probably konami included ref/linesman mistakes????

I doubt they've included mistakes as such, but the touch from the defender means a bit of a grey area in the rules. Obviously I can't give a real reason without seeing what happened, but if Crespo was offside when initially the ball was initially played, the computer probably played the inactive rule. The touch from the defender was seen as a pass by the CPU which means Crespo is actually onside when he scores. It depends on the degree of contact that the defender has but it does sound harsh on your mate!

I think the referee(console) decided your attacker hadn't done any move towards the ball that would have brought him any chance of scoring a goal BEFORE the ball touched the defender. Anyway I doubt KOnami included ref mistakes.... but then, don't we have them already? There are some fouls that referee doesn't see, and there are some clear moves that referee whistles. That may be said as a ref mistake... ;)

I hoped KOnami will add a nice feature to the WE9, which is letting the player turn the in-game cutscenes off during the match. Too bad there is no such a possibillity ;/

One nice thing is a fair-play game. Nice to see computer players kicking the ball out when one of my players is laying on the ground..

same thing happened to me but with Henry, I kept replaying the replay looking for a defender to see if Henry was offisde, and I couldnt find one, he was way offsides, but he got the ball from a deflection and scored. It has only happened once to me so I dont think it is very common occurence, at least i hope not.

Yeah, it happens... i was shooting with eto'o and it was going in... but it hit ronaldinho who was slipping in (cos knocked by a defender?) and i was thinking "omg, its gonna be offside" but NO... it counted as ronaldinho's goal... who was definitely offside. He was even behind the keeper who came charging at eto'o. dunno what konami is thinking... maybe its just a bug.

ok this is my first post on this forum, but a longlong time player.

1. Gameplay.

The first thing to notice is the change of the gameplay speed, a litle bit slower in all motions, turning accelerating ect. But that is just a good improvement. You get FEELING a lot more. The dribling is a bit harder, but in my opinion a lot more fun and much more realistic. There is a variety of new tricks and moves. I'm sure i have'nt seen them all. The movement of the players is just like watching real-life football. All the litle details in the motion is a great improvement from last years edition. Some refs are crap and others not. Just like in real life.
The shooting and the freekicks have been improved a lot too. But you still can get a crapy shot with Stevie G or lampard. Hit one from 35 yards with lampard, think it was midlerange, but dont know, and it went in of the post in a flickering pace. Bouncing back in the net on the other side, and my god, it was a fast shot.
The freekicks look much easier to score from, got one in my first night, like in pes4 it took me some days to score from a freekick.
The passing is a bit harder, and you have to look more for clear passes, and take more in acount in what direction your player is facing.
And there have been drastic improvements on the long passes (not crosing), THEY ACTUALY WORK. So does the crosses.
The overall gameplay has been taken up a notch. The navigation of menus is not so unlike in the other games. You get the hang of it pretty quickly . And many improvemnts in ML, but i've not finished one season so far in ML.
The editing is very cool, boot editor alongside good kit editor.
You can now also have the option to play on a snowy pitch, and that gives the game something more, an extra spice to already fine game.

2. Graphics

The cutscene in the begining of the game is awsome.
The graphics are amazing, though some players could be more look-a-like them self. New cutscenes in gameplay, showing the fans cheering like never before, and injured players lying on the pitch during gameplay, and getting of when the ball goes out for touch. There is still some unlicensed teams, but they've got license for Chelsea and Arsenal . There are still the same licensed teams as in pes4.
But far as im concerned it does'nt matter, it's still the same gameplay, and that's what counts.

3. Overall valuation.

This is THE GAME, no doubt about it. For all footy fans out there, if you have'nt play we/pes series, you are missing out of so much fun, action, joy, cheers, sadness, irritation, and the list goes on. But that is what makes this game so special, you get the FEELING! No two games or goals are the same. Unlike fifa, you just find the spot to score from, and you score maybe 60%-70% from that spot. "So real life" Hmm. This game is second to none, problably the best game i've ever played on ps2.
If you dont got this game, buy it from where ever, and if you cant play imported games on your console, buy mod chip. Thats what i did, and it was woth it.

Just some quick thoughts having had the game two days now. I feel the shooting has moved back towards the way it was in PES3. The ball seems to completely fly over the bar if you time it badly, I haven't come anywhere near scoring a screamer yet and I was quite the expert at them in PES4, we'll need to see how it goes.

Passing is excellent. I like how when holding X down for a longer period of time will find a man further away. Physics for the ball seem better, i've hit a few shots which have spun off defenders, soun round the goalkeeper and just narrowly missed the goal.

Quite a cool thing I saw this morning. I lobbed the goalie and one of their defenders was running back to clear it off the line. The ball bounced off the bar so the defender tried to stop themselves but ended up crashing into the net. His body shaped round the net and the whole thing bulged. Was really cool.

A lot more animations this time around, I like how players skip over bad tackles but even then, sometimes they get caught and fall. The referees seem a lot more consistent than PES4, if only a bit too frequent with the whistle.

The momentum of players works brilliantly, with Adriano I was running towards the ball as awas a defender. I had been running for a longer period of time, so when we both came into contact with the ball, I boshed him away and moved on with it. That was a nice touch.

Peeves I have are the through ball doesn't seem to work at all now and double tapping circle for crosses plays a pretty shitty ball across goal. Hopefully they'll be improved for PES5.

In ways I feel the shooting has gone backwards, it'll take a lot of getting used to and I thought it was almost perfect with PES4. Will be interesting to see what else the game has to offer with a few more weeks of play.
