Game: Football Manager 2008

Format: PC

Time: Mondays, Tuesdays, (possibly) Wednesdays and Sundays, from 7pm onwards (maybe earlier on the Sunday)

Players wanted/needed: Ones who aren't tools. Please apply via either MSN (give_it_some_jam_roll@hotmail .com), PM or this thread. Flexibility is available for the days of the week.

I would prefer to start in some obscure place, of which could be written many an amusing post - but I'm easy-going in general. Leagues with less teams tend to be good for online games, as the times you play each other come around more often.

I started a Reading game a while ago, and finished 8th in my first season. Managed to sign some good players like Garay, Vanden Borre and Sharp. Now my team are playing utter shit and I am currently 17th. Nothing I do can stop me from losing. My strikers aren't scoring goals, Kevin Doyle has scored 0 goals this season which is fucking ridiculous considering his stats. How the fuck can you stop really shit form? The way this game shits on you sometimes pisses me off.

Am I the only member of this site who has not had a go at managing Man City?

I had a brief attempt but quickly stopped as their colors were hurting my eyes!

The past few days, I've completed a season with Newcastle United (My second try with a Premiership team) and this was something spectacular. Probably the best every season I've accomplished in my whole FM career. You'll be surprised, I'll post up the pics and story later. :)

I downloaded a few things for my game, a facepack, all the club & competition logos.

So I decided to start a new game and I went Man City. First thing I done was flog Micah Richards to Chelsea for £12m. I went out and bought a fella called Jaliens as his replacement and he is wank.

I managed to sign Huntlelaar for £10m and Nery Cardozo, but hes gone out on loan because he doesn't have a work permit. I've had that problem with several of my new signings. My polish feeder club will keep them warm for the time being.

Results wise, pretty mediocre to be honest. Inconsistent. I have no problem scoring goals. Its not even November on my game yet and Bianchi has 10 goals which is impressive, Huntelaar has 6 or 7.

I've just been through a bad patch, having lost three on the bounce to Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal. All of them, 4-3. My board told me to make changes so I dropped some certain big names, and I've won the last two on the bounce and sit 10th. Heres my current team -

GK. Isaksson (I have Schwarzer, Hilario, Hart and K Schmeichel also at the club)

RB. Logan (Hes not let me down so far but hes too young I'm thinking)
LB. Ball (Both him and Garrido are average, should get a new LB)
CB. Dunne (Has been on poor form but I'm keeping the faith)
CB. Corluka (Has been good so far)

RM. Elano (Is still a match winner when he wants to be)
LM. Petrov (Has the best average rating and several assists)
CM. Flamini (on loan)
CM. Gelson Fernandes (Has forced Hamann out of the team)

CF. Bianchi (Has done extremely well so far)
CF. Huntelaar (Slow start, but he keeps improving)

Transfer Add-ons - The Guide

Transfer add-ons are an extremely useful feature in the game, they can let you get a player for cheaper than you normally would, but with a few little strings attached, that all-in-all, will hardly effect you.

This guide will show you how to utilise these to your advantage, and what they will do.

Additional Clauses:

Percentage of Next Sale
This option, in short, means that you give the club you are trying to buy a player from a certain percentage of the money you receive when you next sell him.

This can be used well if you're buying a player over the age of 28/29, as it's fairly unlikely you are going to sell him. But when you're buying a younger player, it's better to try and avoid this clause, as at some point in the future an offer may come in that your board just can't refuse, and then you only got 50%(or whatever percentage you set) of what you sold him for.

Buy Back Price
This clause allows the club you are trying to buy a player from the option to purchase the player back at any time for a certain price.

I don't see any use in this clause, but it can be useful when you are selling a player.

Arrange Friendly
This clause is simple really, most smaller clubs want this option included if you are a big name team, as it can fetch them a lot of money.

I see no harm in allowing this one, as I think you can actually cancel the friendly once the transfer has gone through, thought I'm not certain.

Additional Fees:

Monthly Installments
This fee means that you will pay a certain amount of money to the club over a period of 6, 12, 18 or 24 months.

This fee isn't taken from your transfer funds, but your overall balance, which can be useful if you have a large balance, but you should steer clear if you've got a balance under, say, £15m.

After League Appearances
This clause means that after the player you are trying to buy has played a certain amount of games for your club in the league, they will be paid a certain amount.

It's a pretty good feature, and can be used to hold off paying a bigger sum, though it too comes out of your bank balance.

Per League Appearance
This is similar to the 'After League Appearances' clause, but instead of paying after a certain amount of games, you pay per game.

It's not that useful in my opinion, it's much easier to just use the 'After League Appearances' clause.

After International Appearances
This is exactly the same thing as the 'After League Appearances' clause, except it's for the international side of things.

It can be used to good effect, especially if the player is from a big country, like Brazil, or Italy, as there's a smaller chance of them being picked for the squad.

Minimum League Goals
This clause means that you will pay the club you are trying to buy a player from a certain amount of money once he scores a certain amount of goals.

It's a good thing in theory, but with some of the ridiculous goal rates players get, it's a bit risky to put in a big sum of money on this clause.

After Promotion
This clause means that you pay the club you are trying to buy a player from a certain amount of money once you get promoted, now obviously this clause will only work if you're in the league below the top division of that country.

Unless you know what sort of money you'll get the next season, and if you're promoted, then it's best not to use this, as it can land you in a bit of debt.

Players To Exchange:

Transfer Listed
This clause lets you select a player who is on your transfer list to be put in as part of the deal when buying another player.

It's a great thing in theory, but other clubs will rarely want the player you've included, so it's a rather useless clause.

Other
This is the same as the 'Transfer Listed' function, except that it let's you choose someone who isn't transfer listed, and from the rest of your squad.

It's no different to the 'Transfer Listed' option, and it's hard to get a player included into a deal, unless your assistant manager tells you that the club has been interested in signing one of your players.

So that was an insight into transfer add-ons, I hope it's cleared up any queries, that it'll help you out and that you can use them to full advantage in the future.

Just signed some dude called Martial Yao, he's a left back, 17 and I found him in the Ivory Coast U21's. He looks like he's going to be immense, check him out.

I've had my best start so far as Real Madrid,

6 games, 14 goals and 0 conceeded, that includes playing Valencia away (1-0) and Barcelona at home (4-0). I haven't signed anybody really except for a few youngsters.

Original?

See the trouble I have with that is that if you're going to have all the January transfers you should have to start on February 1st, with all the results being correct!

Finally got my FM back haha.
Started a season with Celtic, signed Robson, some left back from Lokomotiv who cant play until he gets a work permit, and I also signed Samaras from City, hes runnin riot.

I play him and JVoH upfront, good combination pushed McDonald onto the bench. Nakamura however is pretty dissapointing at present.

Top of the league, and drew Barca Stuttgart and Elfsborg.
Arsenal got put out by Spartak in the Qualifiers :|.

More to come, pictures too.

Loopy about Lupoli
I have got to four semi-finals in the last two seasons and reached no finals. Milan, led by the Euro 2012 winning coach Steve McClaren, beat me in three of them :( Still, I ended the last season with 15 wins and a draw in my final 17 games (finished third, guess who beat me as well as finishing top) so I'm starting to realistically challenge after over a decade in charge :smug: I've signed hardly any first team players in years; I just keeping buying teenagers and watch them grow: however the best two youngsters I have had have been from my academy :)

Funnily enough, Barcelona are smoking me. Only 2-0 last I looked, but I've not even shot at their goal haha.
Gonna predict about 6-0 tbh. Gutted.
We're trying, but Barca at the Camp Nou, what can you expect.

Gutted.
