Found another error, this would be funny...

I tried to watch the goals of the month for August, as soon as I clicked on the third place one, an error message came up and FM09 closed. When I tried to restart it (I'd only just loaded it up so I hadn't lost anything) it came up saying it was already running, I checked, and it isn't... so that's irritating.

But my season as Liverpool* is going well; signing Ivica Olic (after pulling out of a deal for Heskey because I wanted a pacier striker) and a youngster from Holland called Rodney Sneijder on loan (but with an option to buy for £2.5m during the season-long loan, which I plan to use when I have the money). I have my eye on several youngsters across Europe, thanks to my excellent scouting network.

In the England League, I got supporters a bit irate after a poor display in a 0-0 draw with Newcastle (on the back foot all game - despite that, the main indicent of the game was a claim for a penalty at the end of the game for me) then I proceded to beat Portsmouth 2-0, Boro 2-1 and Spurs 3-0,

In the Champions League it's a tad freaky... I drew Standard Liege in the qualifiers, went through 5-2 (3-0 in the home leg, then a half-reserve team drew 2-2) then in the group state I have drawn PSV, Marseille and... Spartak Moscow. I was 100% sure I was about to get Athletico as my final team.

I am amazed at the quality of the media this year round (I didn't get FM08 so I don't know if this is new for this year, or last year), but I went to watch West Ham vs Sheff Wed in the League Cup, and a news article came up saying that I had been, and it mentioned how I was a Wednesday fan, so I tried to see them as often as I could. Similar articles came up when I watched England in their qualifiers... although the second time it mentioned I might have been there to spy on Micah Richards. It's all thoroughly details. Mind you, the press conferences always make me seem like a grumpy bastard. "... was not in high spirits today..."

*I always play as Liverpool for two reasons: 1) I am not brilliant at FM, so I like to actually have a well-off club (ie scouts, coaches, etc).
2) if I was Wednesday, I am afraid I have poor knowledge of the right kind of players to bring in, I'd end up bringing in all of Liverpool's youngsters on loans.

I can't even get the game to install. I installed it via Steam earlier on today and it did fuck all. I just got the graphics error, which apparently can be sorted out with the patch and the new DivX. Anyways, I tryed to uninstall it and i'm pretty sure i've uninstalled Steam, and now it wont even install again, as I want to install it via the Internet instead of this fucking 'Steam' shit. Any help? Pretty much wasted £25 quid, imo.

I can't help you, sorry - I tried Steam, but I failed because Uni blocked it. Try ringing a helpline, or sending hatemail to SI.

Oh, another half-complaint I have.

With Liverpool, I got a budget of £3m...

Man City spent £100m in the August transfer window! It was gutting!

Its realistic. Ridiculously realistic. With Milan I'm over my wage budget and get £8m meaning that even if I can find someone a central defender to sign (it turned out to be Thiago Silva after Napoli demanded £21m for Santacroce), I can't offer them a good contract unless I reduce my transfer kitty in favour of a larger wage budget.

The fact I'm genuinely concerned about how I'm going to be able to afford a new squad in the game is precisely the situation Milan find themselves in.

I've even been sucked into doing things the "Milan way" - I signed 32-year-old Belletti on loan from Chelsea

I wouldn't say too realistic. For example, I think managers are given too much freedom regarding signings on FM.

Also, Liverpool would be able to afford at least £8m I'd say. And since Kuyt is a midfielder on this, I actually only have Keane and Torres (N'Gog isn't good enough yet) so I had to sign a striker; Olic wasn't a bad buy I think - they wanted about £6m for him, and rejected my £2.5m offer, but when he rejected a new contract, I managed to get him for £2.8m. I was so desperate at one point I was looking at getting Fat Ronaldo for free, but my scout said he'd be good enough for a Championship side at best.

I like the takeover realism on this - some guy from (the comically named) Glapwell has taken over Portsmouth, and because he apparently has links with Holland, they think Gullit will replace Redknapp.

Hope he does - having him on the staff at Milan irritates me.

Fat Ronaldo! Of course! I'm desperate enough to make a tentative move. Had to cancel a £1.8m move for Daniele Vantaggiato because I don't have the funds - can't get rid of Emerson.

Isn't Ronaldo out for about 7 months on the game anyway?

A bit of a bummer Redknapp is still at Pompey too, I thought the 9.01 patch would have fixed this.

Anyway, my brother managed to get his working this morning, so I'm going to try and install it a bit later myself. The 3D match engine is still rather shocking on his PC, despite it been "built for gaming." PC world's words, not mine. Looks like I'm sticking with 2D. That's if I get it to work at all..

Put him on offer for a loan - Sunderland loaned him on my game.

I forgot to mention - Fat Ronaldo is injured for 6 months.

I had Edgar Davids, another free agent, on trial, he played well in the two half games he played in, but suddenly someone else snapped him up, which slightly annoyed me (but not too much, because I got this Rodney Sneijder, who is alright).

I am amazed at my tactics so far. Managed to out manouvre PSV in my first Champions League game to win 1-0... a great Gerrard free kick. The great thing about this 3D view (Main Stand) is that I was right behind the free kick when he hit it.My only problem with it is that it always goes "GOAL FOR LIVERPOOL" or whoever, about 0.5 seconds early, which removes the suspence.

Okay, three young players I recommend:

Rodney Sneijder. Managed to get this guy on loan, and if I raise the funds, I'll buy him for £2.5m. He's excellent at set pieces and often does well for my reserves. Did well in the one first team game he played in too. Should get another chance in the League Cup.

Mamadou Sakho. My Central Europe scout picked up this guy, he's making the PSV first team, and the France U21 team. Gonna try and get him on a loan with a view to a permanent move in January - long term replacement for Hyypia. He's the only young player I've scouted who is already at England League level - expected to become better than Carragher (who is rated at 5 stars).

Henri Saivet - exciting attacking midfielder. An incredibly glowing reference from my scout, but on the downside, the games my scout went to Saivet only came off the bench, both for his club and France U21s.

A question for everyone: what leagues did you choose to have on your game? I chose the Spanish (Liverpool's links to Spain being quite good; might have long term benefits) and German (I like German football...) leagues.

Ronaldo can be out as long as he likes - he's probably better than Inzaghi on the game.

Sakho and Saivet amongst others were regulars for me in FM 2008.

I'm running the Argentinian, Brazilian, English (view only), French, German, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Serbian and Spanish leagues. Eighteen divisions across those 10 countries with only two in England, France, Germany, Portugal, Serbia and Spain, three in Italy and one in Argentina, Brazil and Holland.

Argh! My game made me choose out of three! How did you get to choose so many? I'd probably have chosen the same, with the Scottish instead of the Serbian.

I think I had the bloody Wizard on at the time - that might have been my downfall...

I've just updated my shortlist - I am keeping an eye on Michael Johnson, as Man City are signing all sorts of players, I am hoping he'll be cast out of the team. The other players are Saivet, Sakho (who I do remember I had on PES2008... like 7 years in the future), Camacho from Athletico, Micah Richards and Thierry Henry (who apparently I can get for £12m, which I don't have... another one I'm keeping an eye on in case he gets cast out).

Ljungberg is rated as Championship quality by my scout - but he's free, might be something for your Milan side? (Although I presume you need experience in the same way that I need 13 year old keepers who are never gonna be any good)

I didn't like the look of the 3D engine to begin with - but it's basically the same at the 2D engine, but a little more clearer. TV view is only ever good for attending games that aren't your own.

I am unaware of that, true. But I am also unaware of erm... what my Ghz, processor or whatever you mentioned is for my machine....

In fairness, my laptop could find an error with Pythagoras' Theorum
