General Demo Discussion/Impressions

Hey guys im absolutely loving the PES Demo, just feels like real football now and with some minor tweaks it could really beat out FIFA which is extremely annoying this year (at least the demo).

The only question i had was, how do i defend better? Im used to just running into my opponent and getting the ball back.

Why did they change this from just using the right stick? Not it is harder to pull off, especially on manual when you want to move a teammate exactly were you want.

ya I don't know why they would change that, it was perfect!

Is it just me or can you longer control 2 players (one with your left analog stick and 1 with your right) when defending? Because if you can't that really sucks. This was one of the best features of the last game, as it was such an effective tool to make your team press as a unit. Also you could adjust one of your defenders position when necessary. Without these tactic you simply can't defend as effectively compared to how you could with this feature.

Also, using the right anolog stick to control another player when you are in possession seems to be really awkward now, bordering on it being impossible to do when under pressure. It's now really hard to lock onto the player you want with L1 plus the right analog stick and you can't seem to smoothly switch between players like you could on the last game.

I am pretty sure this is not just me not knowing how to do it properly, if anybody can help I would be happy to listen. If it is broke like I think it is then I hope Konami fix it, as for me this was a crucial feature in the last game, this feature was something that Fifa completely lacks (the manual control of another player when you are in possession, you can control another player when you are out of possession I think) and for Konami now to ruin it would be annoying.

There has been some good improvements to the game, but before discussing them I would have to know if I can fix this problem (specifically not being able to control 2 players out of possession)by doing something differently. If you can't then this would be a game-breaker for me and I would end up buying Fifa, as a big part of my game consists of controlling 2 players out of possession to pressurize the opposition. It would be a huge shame if Konami have shot themselves in the foot again over something as needless as this.

One problem I've noticed is when your opponent is attacking you in between your midfield and defence running at your defence the cursor switch sometimes refuses to switch to a midfielder and just switches between your defenders, and then when you get your team mate to pressure it uses a defender rather than the midfielder who is just behind the attacker making the midfielders pretty useless and huge gaps in behind. Can be difficult on Superstar when you have two forwards directly going at your Centre Backs.

I agree with you 100% Those were great features.... I don't know why they messed with them honestly. I didn't even know you could do them with the new L1 / stick combination... but it does sound annoying.... Please Konami change it back to how it was last year!

player switching n defense is rather sluggish and slow... hopefully this is fixed for the final version.

anyone know whats up with those long runs the cpu takes for you without you wanting them to ? especially when your defenders perform the runs? I've scored 2 goals in the same game with Chiellini running straight up the middle and me finding him with a through pass, both occasions he went in one on one with the goalie like a CF... was a bit strange.

In theory you can (only when you are in possession though) but in practice it simply doesn't work, whether you lock onto the player you want is hit or miss and when you are finally in control of the player I think you need to keep hold of L1 as well as keeping the right analog stick clicked down. Then after that switching between players is so hard. It just doesn't work properly.

Is there anywhere I can complain to Konami about these problems? Because if they don't fix them then I will be forced to buy Fifa. Surely it wouldn't be hard for them to fix this and implement the ability to control 2 players when you are out of possession like it was implemented in the last game?

Just like I said they would in previous posts, Fifa would take away good features from the game as well as adding. I am not surprised in the slightest. I won't be fooled this year.

Right now I am set on Fifa, if this problem is solved then I may reconsider. It won't happen with it being Konami though. I'll keep track of what you guys say on here anyway, to see if there is any solutions to this game-breaking problem.

PS. I seen Evans, how they can make a mistake like that beats me.

my question is why even mess with it... there was nothing wrong with the way they had it last year. Write to Adam at WinningElevenNextGen Blog see what he tells you.

I asked Adam on Twitter... he said they moved the offball controls because the right stick is now used for weight shift. That is all... so don't expect it to be changed back.

ok, the only way i can get past players is if i use that weight shift thing (right analogue one way, left another) does anyone know any others? I'm really enjoying this, and I realised playing with other teams can be harder to pass the ball around.

Oh and the off the ball movement with the right stick is annoying, and doesnt work as well. But I would hardly call it gamebreaking, although it's frustrating that they put something in that works so well only to change it up.

Also, I used to flick the R stick in defense to change players, this year you cant? This would allow me not to get annoyed at L1 switching

My review about PES 14 Demo 2 (as in comparsion with PES13) :

Positives :

- Loads of new animations .especially for Sliding tackle and Heading.
-Momentum of a player carries him through while executing a sliding tackle.
-You can't adjust the pass/shoot power gauge bar once you have set it.This ways people can't keep on adjusting their power once they take a shot/free kick/Header. (will come in handy especially when a towering defender gets only 1 chance to set the power to head out the ball)
-Dribbling feels realistic with the right analog stick letting you adjust body weight.thought I'd love to know how to perform roulette and stuff.
-Passing is more realistic and challenging as compared to PES13.
-Goal keeper are lot more responsive. They react a lot quicker after grabbing the ball and can even throw as far as till the half-way line.
-Crosses are like passes now.they end up wherever you direct them and not in random direction.
-Players like Reus,Schweinsteiger,Ronaldo,Hummels,Khedira,Nani,Lahm feel so realistic.Defensive players are special too whereas just attackers felt special in PES13.
-Commentry has improved a bit.The commentator was making personal comments about some players like Ronaldo,Gerrard,Rooney etc.
-Commentator hints when a player M.A.S.S is down I think...cause the commentator kept on commenting what a bad game Schweinsteiger was having when his heart was blue I think...and he was really having a bad game.
-Througball passes are nerfed? I am not sure ,maybe they are.
-Quick throw-ins are really cool.
-Players tussling for Ball is really cool.Defenders and attackers using their arm to get an upper hand at winning physical battles.

Negatives :

- There is no option to control a second player? in open play and while taking set-pieces? but the settings mention you can control a second player ..assisted or manual settings. ( This might actually be a good thing as not letting people control second players online wouldn't let them spam incisive through balls to attackers).
-Not as much as it used to exist in PES13 but I think Ping-pong passing still exists on 3 bar support passing I feel.(and could be exploited by bad players while playing online)
-When you set the pass support to 0 you still pass around in blue bar but when you execute a manual arrowed pass from within a game it will show up as Green bar.(This might be rectified in the final version)
-Is it just me or someone else noticed that players after scoring a goal run too fast towards the corner flag to celebrate the goal. (not a major issue at all).
-All the players are having the same animation while singing the anthem (Again a very minor issue)
-Overall polishing of the game needs to improve by 10-15% in the final version.Graphics are great but sometimes they feel like the lack luster in some areas.
-Apart from that minor glitches such as team formation menu for switching players and players position not smooth...opponents goal keeper name showing up for a second on edge of the screen while your goal keeper is handling the ball. etc

This shift weight thing is a load of bollox and is ruining the game for me. I'll never get to grip with it as I don't use analogue. Also off the ball movement is a mess. It was a pain in the arse before but they've just made it worse. Shame really as the game has promise but the shifting weight thing really is a deal breaker if there is no other way to beat players.

Its difficult but thats how it works in real life.Maybe they will make it more effective in the next patch.indirectly making it easier.

Was it PES where the developers said the fans would effect your players? If so has anyone noticed it?

What I mentioned 3 posts above "Commentator hints when a player M.A.S.S is down I think...cause the commentator kept on commenting what a bad game Schweinsteiger was having when his heart was blue I think...and he was really having a bad game."

has got something to do with it .I guess.

For weight shift? Oh dear.

What an awful decision by Konami, whatever weight shift is I am pretty sure that it isn't worth removing the offball controls for it. Trying to defend while only being able to control one player at a time is a complete joke and it makes the game unplayable.

Screw Konami, they are idiots. I'm buying Fifa, you should try it, it's not an arcadey game like it used to be, some people are living in the past, it's actually very good now.

I can't believe Konami have removed the best gameplay feature from last years game. Actually I can, I told everybody Konami would screw up, and they did. They will next year too and the year after that, and so on. PES is finished guys.

Nope, you can't. Because apparently weight shift is more important.

Analog to change man?

Am I missing something or can't you change man using the right analog anymore. Finding it difficult to move my defenders around without it. By the time ive pressed L1 three time to get the right man its too late.
Also you can't use it to select a receiving player from throw-ins, dead ball, free kick etc. why have they remove this?

I think these games are far too quick to notice anything substantial. This may be anecdotal but while playing as Bayern (home) Alaba who had a down arrow started to play much better for me after I made some slick moves with him on the flank I even saw him make a gigantic sprint to catch up with Nani :eek:hmy:.

I'm really liking this demo thus far- the atmosphere with the matches are great, like the general interface of the whole thing- I have a few issues with the rating of players such as Pizzaro being near god like and the fact that Konami view Welbeck and Sturridge as near equals  and the snub on Gerrard!

Player appearances are good too- though I remember reading on the winning elven blog that more presets will be patched in. Which all but confirms that there is no guarantee that players that had a preset in 2013 will have one at the start before said patch. I mean look at Riquelme .
