I finally bought PES 2012. Best. Game. Ever.

I know a lot of the old regulars are jumping ship to FIFA12 (was always considered blasphemy in these parts might I add), and I honestly can't see why. I've played about half a season at a friends house since release, but I've played three quarters of a season in the last 3 days since I got my own copy and I'm properly hooked again.
At first I was smashing EVERYTHING over the bar and stumbling all over the pitch, and struggling to get wins on regular, but now, the magic is back. This game is what PES is all about.

It is a lovely game, sometimes frustrating and not ideal. But that's what I love, it's not perfect. it's like the real game, it gives you moments of simple beauty and others of anger driven idioticy. PES has got what FIFA lacks, soul.

Actually, it wasn't to back you up to a point. There are some members here that have this mentality that pes is useless and fifa is superior and I don't like that. I am all for views and opinions as long as they are respected.

This new pes is actually amazing, ive jumped ship BACK to PES after many years of hating the next gen versions this is the first one on ps3 that i liked, i LOVED all the ps2 ones, PES better than fifa fifa lacks soul. and the presentations in game are much better on PES

For me it's just the sheer playability, and the detail of the players. It may not be licensed fully, but a few hours editing makes it all right. Worth the extra tinkering time just for a superior game.
Just finished the Premier League and unlocked all the players and extras, started a Master League 3 games in so far, 1 draw 2 wins. I've been known to do 15+ seasons on previous games, so lets see how that goes...

I lost interest after 2008, played 2009 a bit on PS2 then dipped slightly into 2011 on Xbox360 cos I missed it, but now the game is back to it's former glory I can't get enough. Even stopped playing Battlefield 3 since I got it.

I got back in to it recently. I used to play my mate in fifa 12 head2head, now we play together on master league, gone through a season and a bit in a few weeks

I thought PES12 was/is a terrible game, one of the worst football games i've ever played on tbh, i could defend, i could shoot where i wanted and all that but the general vibe of the game was the killer for me, it was like an arcade game ,youe attack, we attack, so many games ending 2-2, 3-2, 5-2 etc, average players cutting through like they are a messi-ronaldo hybrid, very un-realistic i pray PES13 is nothing like it's predecessor.

good for you. just moments ago i made a decision too - i finally nearly threw my ntb out of the window in fury, but i controlled my temper and threw the pes2012 out instead. Now im going to try fifa. been playing pes since pes5.

When I started playing PES it was called ISS. And it was on the SNES. Had every one since apart from 2010 as my 360 was dead during that period.

After a few weeks playing I still say 2012 is the best PES, and the best football game ever.

What really highlights it as a terrible game is the lack of variation of goals online and also in multiplayer. The really shit thing about this pes is the goalscoring is so unsatisfactory because of the ludicrous physics and the automated placing of the ball when shooting majority of the time. You aim bottom left for a tap in and end up smashing it in the top right corner.
Should be renamed PES I'LL HOLD YOUR HAND SOCCER 2012 because that's exactly what it does. It has totally removed any intelligent defensive play from last years game and severely punishes you for trying to use your brain when positioning your defenders when someone is going to cross the ball in. You just have to accept that you have to brainlessly charge the winger because positioning your defenders will just end up in you conceding a headed goal. . The game might have slightly improved lag online but tbh i'd rather face pes 2008 transporting lag rather than the button lag that we have to face these day's and times. But at the end of the day this game is ruined because in multiplayer anyone can beat anyone because of the easy nature of just being able to run all match and then quickly moving up the pitch with zero thought because of the fully automated passing that's available online.

Next gen pes's might not have lived up to the ps2 games but finally this year it's died for me PES because know longer can you dictate most of your game with intelligent football , you need to whore the run button.
I've always considered PES games as like an art game where you have got to create pretty patterns using your imagination to try different things but the game this year is like a 4 year old with a crayon.
Shit game is incredibly shit.

I rarely play it online, and when I have, I've enjoyed it. PES to me, is all about the Master League. Which is brilliant, minus a few minor flaws I can live with.
I disagree with what you say about the shooting. I have no such problems. If you want to slot it in the bottom corner, press RT or R2 while shooting. Defending is hard in real life, and this game mirrors that fact.

I just don't see it like that. I never just hold pressure as it ends in a foul most times. Sometimes I hold second player pressure to try and force the attacker into doing something. I line the defender up and hold jockey then time a tackle just as I release jockey, the key is to press the button just as the attacker touches the ball, obviously this is difficult if the camera is at a distance and you can't see the finer details. The AI knows that amateurs will hold pressure, so punishes them for it, as it's not the way it's meant to be done. In the real world if defenders just charged at the ball constantly it would be easy to get past them.

Body balance works fine for me, it just requires pace changes and good positioning, just like real life football. And for the record I play on top player and always have. I'd be happy for shit players taking me on 1 on 1 as it would be easy to get the ball back.

Maybe you should just find people you know will give you a good game rather than playing random people online, I find this with most games, amateurs looking for a cheap way to win. If you are patient, you can destroy them. Use tactics, keep the ball when you have it, soak up the pressure when you haven't and let them sprint all over the place, lull them into a false sense of security then by 70 mins their players are fucked and you can just pretty much score at will if you know what you are doing. I know this might sound arrogant, but I am actually pretty good at this game, and I'd be worried if I wasn't considering how much I have played it over the years.

PES is (and always has been) ALL about timing. They've just narrowed the margins over the years. It's closer to real football than most people give it credit for.
