Every year when I play a new PES I convince myself its back for good, so hard I try to tell myself this game is better than FIFA. I have to say I give up.
The honeymoon period is over, I've finally had chance to play this game for a while and see exactly how it plays etc. I may its a long way better than last years, but that isn't really an achievment. Konami don't have too put much effort in to improve this crap every year, I mean 2013 and we've only just seen a tackle button!? Personally this is the best next gen PES for a long, long time. But, still the issues are there that prevent this from being a playable game at all. (I must also note FIFA is nowhere near as good as its claimed to be at all.)
Every game I play is the same old, awful defending with dull attacking options. Since release day its as if despite the change of teams and tactics there is no way to enjoy this game, ever match is the same dismall engineered tripe. No matter which team I am, the only way to create chances is via a counter attack that results in a perfect through ball and then a striker helplessly proding it at the keeper and away for a corner. I really wished that the PES community would get the game they so desperately deserve, all you guys really do for the amount of trust we've put in Konami. I've given up sadly, and now I'm guessing its back to PES6 for me, I'd rather PES09 than FIFA 13.

P.s. Sorry for any mistakes in spelling, was written on an awful touch screen Phone.

the game is great , i find pes6 a bit crap after playing pes 2013 vs the cpu

Pes6 is still the daddy in my eyes. Had a few games on 13 & yes, It's prettier, but it still doesn't feel like I have the same freedom as 6 did. I've purposely avoided the word 'scripting', you may note.

I won't avoid the word scripting as it's one of the most scripted versions I can remember playing to date. There isn't even an attempt at hiding it anymore.

Try the dyanamic one-two with manual RS player control and you'll score more than just counter attack goals. A barca-esque style of play is possible with the right tactical set-up, sliders, players and of course you're own ability. Some of the moves I've finished have been unreal, the player off-the-ball movement is what makes this game great and unique.

Too bad the game modes are awful, ball physics are non-existent, tackles and referees are scripted, automated abominations and goalkeepers still don't behave as they should.

Still, I've seen Konami steadily improve the off the ball AI these past three years, and now we've reached the point where we can emulate Barcelona (or Italy's catenaccio, if that's your thing). With the new Fox Engine we'll see better physics, and apart from that, Konami just have to polish up their game.

For PES2013, a beta really, you'll get most enjoyment from experimenting with tactics and players in order to create the perfect football team, to score the perfect goals. That's always been what PES is about, FIFA doesn't even come close as far as depth of gameplay goes.

i nearly given up aswell. fed up watching my player make a tackle then stand there and watch the cpu get the ball. or everytime i cross the ball my player does some sort of header that ends up high.

im also thinking of going back to pes09 as its my favorite on next gen but wish you could update all the players and teams for that one

You're better off trying PES 2013, and making your own judgements upon the game Thori.

PES 2013 has excellent gameplay in my view, and probably the best I've played since PES6 online for the Xbox 360. There's now a far greater sense of freedom in many aspects of the gameplay; from passing, to movement, dribbling, shooting and even tackling. Overall, the gameplay feels much stronger and for the first time in several years, I can play PES for more than an hour without getting remotely bored!

I think in comparison to the last several years on this forum, PES 2013 has received a much more positive response. The majority of the negative threads relating to PES 2013, seem to be aimed at a specific aspect of the game, as opposed to the gameplay. Based on general community response, the weaknesses of PES this year are perhaps Master League Online, and the removal of regular League Mode.

I've played several exhibition matches online, without any lag, so from my experience, online itself is fairly decent. However I can't speak on MLO as I've not tried it yet. Regarding League Mode being removed, the only way I can think of this being damaging, is if you're wanting to play a multiplayer league with friends (on the same team?), otherwise you can simply just turn transfers and player development off in the Master League, creating a single player normal League Mode experience.

My advice to anyone on the fence would be, to actually play the game for an extended period of time if possible. Like many, I was slightly skeptical this year, and decided not to buy PES 2013 upon release. Instead, I waited a few weeks, then chose to rent it for approximately 5 days from a local Blockbuster. This allowed me to download an excellent option file in quick fashion (Daymos'), and really explore the game, beginning a Master League (offline), whilst becoming accustomed to the tweaks in gameplay and delving into the added controls and tricks. I was so impressed with this year's gameplay, that following the rental, I just had to buy the game as soon as possible.

Overall, I think it depends on what you're hoping to get out of PES 2013. If like me, you're more so an offline player, who thoroughly enjoys the single player aspect of the Master League and especially developing young talent within the mode, then you're probably going to love this game. However, if you're aiming to primarily play Master League Online above all else, then you're perhaps more likely to encounter issues it seems based upon what others have been saying.

As I say, it's probably worth renting PES 2013 first, making your mind up then, after giving it a fair chance, but for me, this is right up there as the best current generation PES game, alongside PES6.

There will always be more complainers than praisers, thats the nature of things.

People do have reason to complain though.

Is it worth around £30 of your cash....for me yes. I've been playing the balls out of the game, on full rage mode at times. Just started a BAL career, with most of the cutscenes removed, yay! Completed my MLO tiki-taka perfection team; Santi, Silva, Modric, Xavi, Iniesta, Hazard, Messi, Mata, Pjanic, Pizarro, loving it (when it doesn't lag, not Konami's problem though, just not enough UK players on PC, mostly Eastern Europeans, Asians and South Americans, lag city)

Can't wait to try the same on offline ML, maybe import my BAL player.....at least 6 months of gameplay I'll be getting from my £30.

The game is still shit though, but in a good way, like Everton.

the game's mechanics looks and engine are certainly better than last year..

What isn't (and yes this has been said many times is"no league modes"

Tackling which is ridiculous so many times now recieve red card when i'm not trying to play aggressivley at all....This was already frustrating in 2012 when fouls were give for what i would say were "nothing fouls" and now it is not only a foul but a yellow as well...Konami need to sort this out pronto..also why is it a foul when your player makes full contact with the ball first??...are they trying to take tackling out of the game???......Well its pathetic not only is such a tackle classed as a foul but almost always a yellow as well....sorry but if you make full contact with the ball it is a CLEAN TACKLE!!...it shouldnt matter whether you slide or not!!!...

Through balls are too effective especially when defenders just try their hardest to ignore your frantic inputs and allow the attacker to get in goal....and this again was not so extreme in last year's version....

As for saying you can't build up play,,, sorry but you are wrong you can build and construct moves both in this years and LAST years version you just have to put alot of effort into it.

Other than that the game is an improvement on previous years editions in my opinion...but the flaws are Huge!

And this is why I always lose from Real online, well spoken Macheda

Did you look in the Completed Files sub-forum? There's loads of patches/Option Files, mostly for PS3
