Is it possible to beat Top Player?

At all?

I've been playing for months and have very, very rarely done so. It is next to impossible. Every pass you make, no matter how well you time it or place it is intersected. Every shot they make, no matter from what angle or how powerful results in a goal. It is a waste of time trying to get the ball from them, because even the most well-timed tackle will result in them tripping for a small second before the ball magically finds its way back in their feat. In the rare occurrences that you do manage to knock it away, it results in a free-kick and yellow card 90% of the time. And when you don't even try of course the attack again results in a goal. You just cannot defend against the computer at all.

I have absolutely never had so much trouble with a sports game, which is frustrating as PES is still very fin to play, at least multiplayer where you don't get such ridiculous things. But Top Player is not simply a tough challenge, it is a mockery with a person's efforts. FIFA's World Class is amateur compared to this.

I mean either I am doing things completely wrong, or others are finding this absurd too?

It is definitely possible for some people. You just need to train hard against teams that are better than you, and get better and better.

It is though extremely frustrating to make a perfectly legal tackle, just to find out that the ref pulled out a red card and a penalty. This can ruin the entire game experience and fun.

I find that using a bad team against a good team in top player is always a good and frustrating way to get better at this game.

Hmmmm I assume you're talking about beating Top Player in PS3 or Xbox360...right?
because I can easily beat it on PS2...

To be honest PES2009 is the easiest PES to play on Top Player. After playing for many hours I can soundly beat the COM on Top Player, although some of the scripting can get annoying!

Keep at it and you will soon be able to get results on Top Player. Good luck!

Top player is actually very easy.
You just need lots of practices. That's what I do.
I have played pes since in the first playstation. It was called winning eleven 3 back then. I believe I have played more than 1,000 games, haha.
Good luck practicing!

Lol, I like how half the replies were "it way too easy for me".

Truth be told, most of these people just spent the hours using crappy teams vs. good teams and got better. Also, play against human opponents. Once you get the hang of what the computer does, it is too easy to beat. Humans adapt, making them harder.

Me and my friends are very comparable to each other so we each started our own master league team and play exhibition matches. This way, you can develop the exact style of team you want.

Personally, I think Top player is no problem, Its the way I play the game out the box, There are obviously defeats along the way but generally its OK. In fact, on the subject I would be all for the inclusion of a couple of higher levels, ones where the threat of an absolute hammering is a real possibility. I also think FIFA is a lot harder on legendery, than PES is on Top player, but thats all down to playing time I guess.

Pes 2008 was much easier than 09.
The one thing I HATE ABOUT TOP PLAYER is that every team will always be better than yours. AI cheating to the max. I can't stand that. This happns from regular onwards.

I don't think that all of you really beat the crap out of top player. I sure you struggle a bit, and who knows, maybe one out of a million games, you lose.

I win sometimes and lose sometimes, and I definitely don't win 5:0 every game.

It all comes down to practice really. When you figure out how the top player computer works, it'll be a walk in the park.

In regards to strategy, if you really are struggling, you could always try the good old cut back. In which a really fast winger runs all the way up the wing, cuts into the penalty area, then passes it across the box for a striker to easily tap it in. Easy goals.

Edit: I would have never normally told anyone to do this, but it seems like you're really struggling so I guess its ok.

after a day of playing against top player it becomes really easy to beat it,
the computer is crap and won't understand anything you do in the game but against a real player he can adapt to your way of play
and what u said about trying to win the ball and taking a yellow instead happens all the time but to the computer, i always know when he is about to make a tackle and just move my player to the opposet direction and he takes a yellow for that

Its got to the point where I love it when one of my guys gets sent off, makes it more fun, as otherwise it feels like its too easy. Even when the opposition score, I just consider it a consolation, even if it is to take the lead.

But then regarding tips for those who are struggling (which is not embarassing at all, as it started out hard for everyone) just focus on ball retention. 'As they say the opposition can't score if they don't have the ball' ;)

and another quote to keep in mind 'what a schtoomer'

top player is too easy. i've been crying out for a harder mode for years (i even made a thread about it once on here). only way around it for me is to play 5 minute matches and sign randoms. i don't get any joy pumpin teams with the likes of gerrard etc in my side ( unless its against a human player )

when i first got this pes i thought it was hard to score from distance, now its easy. i must score about 1 outta 2 long range efforts now cause i've got used to the game. hell i've even found out about the bug scoring from the halfway line ( yes, it is a bug )

in a month or two you'll look back at this thread and laugh. keep at it, i wish i was new again so i could go a big team in leagues etc :(

plus i find playing against the smaller teams harder, its like they defend more or something, harder to break down. when playing against barca etc its a breeze

Mullet,

I can score long range shots, but it still seems to me a bit of lucky. Do you have any tips about it?

Defo agree!Playing on top player in ML isnt as hard as it used to be [sound like me dad!]Found it much harder on PES5 on PS2 as even players like Gambino and Shaw with 98-99 for speed used to get caught by COM defenders with no pace! Now using the speed[R1]and fast dribble[r2] in directional combo your wingers hardly get caught.Dont pass the ball unless you can see a tem mate even if you go back. The COM does get easy to beat and i thought id become invinsible until my 12 year old son kicks my A on it!Human opposition is a much better way to learn the game as its so unpredictable
