I've finally given in and bought Fifa 09 for £22 off Shop to net. I'm still really enjoying Masters League on PES but after all the fuss over Fifa this year I thought I'd give it a try.

Not sure what to expect though having not played Fifa since 2005. What do people reckon is the main difference between the two games? I've heard it's the pace.

I'm gonna give it a try tonight and suppose I can always sell it on Ebay if I don't enjoy it. I still feel as if I'm cheating on PES though :crymore: and reckon I'll play Pro Evo far more than Fifa no matter how good it is.

I did the same but got it from zavvi (rip). I found it fun and differnet to begin with and playing as Sheff Wed is always fun and the main selling point for me! There are some thing i would take over to PES but overall i find PES better. If they could put in a few more leagues with detialed palyers (not like fifa where they have loads of teams but players dont look close to real life!) UTO

That's one of the main reasons I bought it, to play as the mighty Blades!!! Think first game I'll play tonight will be a Sheffield derby, and I'll show Blackwell how to win a bleedin derby as well!!!

I've heard the in game atmosphere, grounds and presentation is a lot better on Fifa, so looking forward to that too!

lol fair play to ya man, can't knock ya...£22 is a very good price for a next gen game, especially one as big as fifa

I was thinking of getting it for the online play, as its far superior to Pro

LOL!
I just got mine today - also from shopto.net!!! I have to collect it at the postoffice, since I wasn't at home yesterday.
I'm looking forward to it. I've been playing the demo (Xbox) for some hours now - and I'm trying to get better at playing the game, with everything set on manual (passing, shooting etc.). Quite difficult at first (and still is) - but at least now I'm finally able to string more than 3 passes together during a match!! :w00t
Playing with everything set to manual makes me think of the old days, when ISS Pro Evolution Soccer came out for the first time on the PSX. It feels sooo much more like the real thing - and makes PES feel too arcady!!?!?! THAT WAS THE REASON I SWITCHED TO PES BACK IN 2000!!!!!?
I found a PDF booklet Guide about FIFA 09 - with everything included in the game (and let me tell you - it's deffenetly deep now) - so now I'm trying to master the game slowly.
As I'm from Denmark, I'm looking so much forward starting a season with my beloved danish side OB - Odense Boldklub!!!

One thing I really like about FIFA now is that you just can't sprint trough the entire pitch like in PES with Messi or Ronaldo (again the sides has switched since 2000?!?!). Here you really has to make room, by differing with different pace, passing and then when there is a small opening, you can knock the ball ahead with a flick on the right stick and sprint after it - leaving the defender behind.
One other feature I just discovered yesterday was the ability to shield the ball. Hold the RB-button (I've set that button as my sprint button, as in PES) and then your player shields the ball. As you keep holding RB and leave the left stick untouched, you can pull off fakes by flicking the right stick in any direction - extreemly efficient!!

Have fun with it!!

I couldn't find the site where I could download the full guide, where it wasn't broken into different pieces - so this is the best I can come up with so far:

http://www.ea.dk/pages/12842/

Take a look at this - and see if you still think that FIFA is arcady and shallow after reading this. ;o)

I'm not saying that FIFA 09 is the perfect game - I just think it's better than PES at this very moment… :eek:s

i played the game. Graphics and features are nice but for some reason on my pc (it might be all on every console) the camera moves too abruptly with the ball. Gives me a massive headache, hence i uninstalled. hope it works well for you.

I did the exact same thing!! Had to collect mine from the post office this morning. Got to wait till I finish work now till I can play it

Certainly sounds like you've enjoyed the demo mate. Just a quick question - Is the shooting, passing etc set to manual as a default or do you have to change that in the options?

One thing I'll say about FIFA 09, is that if you enjoyed the demo (I didn't...it didn't feel too different than 08) you'll love the full game.

It's superior to the demo.

You have to enter the Controller setup menu (or something like that - not the Button Config. menu though). As default I believe that everything is set to "Assisted" (in the demo it is). Either start with "semi" or manual against the easiest level (that's what I'm doing in my 2 min. matches so far…). Looking so much forward to being able to play more than 2 min. matches, since playing manually doesn't produce that many chances - due to extremely inaccurate passing!!!

Konami should do that with PES.

I can already "shield" the ball by holding R1 and releasing the Left Stick.. But it would be cool if we could do some Riquelme-Like tricks via the Right Stick.

This is the 1st fifa ive bought(360) since fifa 96 and i have to say im really impressed. For me pes 09 was shite hence my reason for trying fifa playing online is excellent very very little lag if any and plenty of team's to pick from. The ai is quite decent too the comentary is very good although i hate andy gray and the other dude. The crowd chant's etc are also very good and it make's me feel like im in the stadium (esp while stoned)The gameplay which of course is the most important thing in any game well i was pleasantly surprised how well it play's plus there is a shitload of trick's and new move's to learn. The usual game mode's are there ie league's plenty of cup's and a decent manager mode also become a pro which is very good(become a pro online is excellent best mode ive played so far) id give it a 8 out of 10 where id give pro 09 6 out of 10 .im still playing pro evo 6 too 09 can suck my ball's ....my 360 name if you want a game is mack2kill just add me ....

Look at all these people seeing the light. Until Pro Evo has a "manual" system like Fifa it is dead and buried. Playing all manual on world class difficulty on Fifa is the best video gaming experience ever, i gag for it. The freedom of where you put the ball (not just to feet all the time), the necessity to mix it up between a passing game and throwing long balls up to your target man, it's genius.

I'm surprised to hear you converts make such comments, especially with regard to gameplay. I bought PES 2009 recently, as it's still not officially released in the States, since FIFA's appeal was short-lived and eventually turned into a frustrating experience.

You're right that the online play, presentation and stadium atmosphere (no fans chanting "Riverpoor Riverpoor!) are superior, but other than that it's a miserable game that feels more like arcade football than simulation.

Defending is hopeless, as your Jean-Alain Boumsong wannabes take about 1.5 seconds to react to strikers that sprint the length of the pitch to score lamely, cheaply, and predictably to the point where you want to smash your monitor.

FIFA 09 was a wasted investment for me. It's the stripper who looks good on the first night in tight clothes, with a very short honeymoon afterwards.

"Monitor" gives it away that you were playing Fifa on the PC, which apparently is infinitely inferior to the console version. The console version is undeniably the closest thing to "real" football we've ever been presented with, and quite the opposite to you, i still feel like i've ony scratched the surtface after 4 months of solid playing.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I was referring to the PC versions. Nevermind, in that case.

I think the one thing that stands out is the animations and also the Keppers. People always used to say PES felt rigid and I never understood it. Once you play Fifa and go back to PES you really see that. Also, the keepers are miles better than the keepers in PES IMO. I haven't gone to full manual controls yet but will soon probably. I have tried them but really need to get used to it. It does make things better as triggle said since you can put passes where you want.
