My concerns

For all the great things about PES 2009, it has some flaws that take away from what could be a great game. My primary concerns:

8-way movement, passing and shooting

I can't stress enough... PES has to move out of the days of Super Nintendo and implement 16-degree or greater control.

Passing

So often on PES 2009, passes either go in a completely different direction from what you intend, or your player will just lightly tap it into empty space in front of him. I didn't have this problem on PES 6, this needs serious attention.

Shooting

For some reason, at least on the 360 version of the game, the power-up meter fills up far too quickly, making it virtually impossible to just place a shot along the ground. Along with greater directional control, PES 2010 has to allow for shots that aren't trying to take the goalkeeper's head off.

European licensed clubs

I'd like to see a lot more European clubs from more of the 'minor' countries licensed. Would it really be that hard to get licenses for clubs like Linfield, TNS, Slovan Bratislava, Racing Luxembourg, Kaunas, Maribor, Ferencvaros, etc? I can't imagine it would cost much and it would add a LOT more realism to the Champions League and Europa League. A few more teams from the Swiss, Croatian and Serbian leagues would also be nice.

I've been playing various PES and ISS games for the past 4 years or so, and one of the things i LOVE is the attention paid to the detail of the kits. FIFA doesn't even come close in this respect, and while FIFA has more licensed teams, the teams in PES feel MUCH more real because the player likenesses and kits look like they do in real life. The real-life numbers and letters particularly make a massive difference. Whatever you do, keep making detailed kits.

I liked that (in PES5 I think). I hardly played it, but thought it was a decent little feature. Same with the random selection match, and the challenge training.

I wouldn't mind the challenge training to return in BAL as an alternative to boost your stats.

One thing that was frustrating in 2009 was that if an opposition player tackles you and gets the ball your player keeps on running for 1 second and then just stops on the spot, when in real life as soon as the a player loses the ball they try to instantly, without any pauses, get the ball back.

The same goes for goalkeepers in terms of reaction, if they save the ball and parry it out then they should instantly try to get up and get back into position and save the ball from a second incoming shot. In 2009 the goalkeeper saves the ball and takes too long to get back up and into position again.

Goalkeepers

When goalkeepers catch the ball, they are too slow to distribute the ball. Thsi needs to change. As soon as the goalkeepers catch the ball the curser should instantly go onto the goalkeeper and then you should instantly be able to distribute in which ever way you want!

Movement

As the first post has suggested, 16 directional movement or more should be integrated. Not to compare you, but everybody already knows that Fifa 10 will have 360 degree movement (which I think will take the footballing game genre to the next level) so please try and integrate 360 degree movement, because I feel this attribute alone in Fifa 10 will make it a heavier game than PES 2010.

Licensing/Edit Mode

This may be a bit naughty but if you don't have licenced teams then please at least do let us users be able to change the kits and players to however we please. The current 'Edit' System is extremely limited to what you have provided, give us more options.

Player Expressions/Reactions

I know it would take a huge amount of coding and data to do it, but providing individual reactions for individual players would make the game a lot more realistic. E.g. (BEING A MAN UTD FAN) - Anderson normally swats his body (like a goalkeeper does when attempting to close down a striker) when he goes to tackle a player. Normally Johnny Evans has his hands behind his hips when he is not on the ball! Small things like that can make the game move forward immensely.

Tackles/Crunching Tackles

This has become extremely frustrating amongst the PES community. The AI defenders go and tackle a player in the box. You don't control this and can end up being a man down and conceding a penaly, this has to be removed.

Also when 2 players go for a 50/50 ball one or even both should end up on the floor screaming in agony (once in a while) this hardly ever happens in the game.

Animations

You need to add probably 100's more animations to make the game more realistic, such as a player going balistic for his colleague not passing to him. Also you should be able to see substitutes running on the touchline doing their runs, jogs and exercises. You should be able to see managers come to the touchline and bark instructions and possibly the fourth offical telling him to back off. You should be able to see flares and mayeb even toilet roll fly onto the pitch (how real would that make the game look?). Once in a while during a cut scene show a player on the bench or warming up.

Referees

Needs total overhaul. Offsides are always correct in 2009, you should allow referees to make mistakes (ALL THE TIME).

Sounds

Please cut out the sound of kicking the ball, this becomes frustrating (maybe only when a long ball is kicked or when a full back or winger kicks the ball, because they are on the touchline and near microphones). Other than that cut out the those specifc sounds.

Ref mistakes can be annoying though. If you're playing a big match and your player gets slide-tackled from behind in the area and no foul is called, you wouldn't be too pleased. I think the only time there should be 'margin for error' is on really tight offside calls, and even then only on occasion, and on marginal fouls that in real life are basically up to the referee's discretion.

Guys - Why are we posting different ideas in one thread? This will be totally confusing for konami... I like the idea of each person being able to post their "letter to Konami" and then others can respond, but if you put you own letter in someone else's it probably won't get read.

PS - I agree with iosonocanadese's suggestions... Go figure .

Definately in agreement with more european team licenses. It would be good to have teams which come in at the qualifying stages of the Europa League or Champions League and take them through qualifying and to the group stages... more of a challenge and more reward... A bolder aproach to gaining licenses would be welcomed by me. I would love to see PES match FIFA in that respect. I think its something that really does sway a lot of people to buy the games as people want to play with there team in there kits and there players with the right names etc...

Yup... one of the reasons I like PES over FIFA is because these last few years they've included teams you never see in FIFA (and teams that are in both games feel more realistic in PES, playing different leagues in FIFA doesn't feel different at all), and if they add even more of the clubs that will likely never get into a FIFA game I'd be thrilled.

Completely agreed. Also it would be nice to modify the existing animations, i mean, we have the same animations since . . . PES 6? PES5?

Random selection was the one! Me and my friends loved it making your own dream teams and competing.
