For all the great things about PES 2009, it has some flaws that take away from what could be a great game. My primary concerns:
8-way movement, passing and shooting
I can't stress enough... PES has to move out of the days of Super Nintendo and implement 16-degree or greater control.
Passing
So often on PES 2009, passes either go in a completely different direction from what you intend, or your player will just lightly tap it into empty space in front of him. I didn't have this problem on PES 6, this needs serious attention.
Shooting
For some reason, at least on the 360 version of the game, the power-up meter fills up far too quickly, making it virtually impossible to just place a shot along the ground. Along with greater directional control, PES 2010 has to allow for shots that aren't trying to take the goalkeeper's head off.
European licensed clubs
I'd like to see a lot more European clubs from more of the 'minor' countries licensed. Would it really be that hard to get licenses for clubs like Linfield, TNS, Slovan Bratislava, Racing Luxembourg, Kaunas, Maribor, Ferencvaros, etc? I can't imagine it would cost much and it would add a LOT more realism to the Champions League and Europa League. A few more teams from the Swiss, Croatian and Serbian leagues would also be nice.
I've been playing various PES and ISS games for the past 4 years or so, and one of the things i LOVE is the attention paid to the detail of the kits. FIFA doesn't even come close in this respect, and while FIFA has more licensed teams, the teams in PES feel MUCH more real because the player likenesses and kits look like they do in real life. The real-life numbers and letters particularly make a massive difference. Whatever you do, keep making detailed kits.
