New Franchise?

Hey everyone!

Please dont take this is a subjective rant (its actually an objective question).

I love sports, I follow football, american football, rugby, tennis, golf, MLB etc..
And most of my games (I own a PS3) are sports games.

Now football/soccer has such a huge global market (millions of fans) however
we only have two well known franchises (PES/FIFA), why?

Have any of you played MLB 08 The Show? Its a technical marvel!
It looks beautiful, sony have done justice to the sport. What about
Top Spin 3? Tennis has never been this realistic!

So why doesn't Microsoft or Sony make us a decent football/soccer game?
EA is catching up first but the latest gameplay pics still reveal an upgrade rather
than an overhaul and Konami well ahh everyone's a little down lately after PES2008 huh? But why dont we see newer franchises?

Thank you for reading, if this doesn't belong here I am sorry and if you
feel that I wasted 4 minutes of your time than I'll give you my ex's number
with a shag coupon.

I think Namco would be a good shout with their Football Kingdom franchise. I'd give that a go if they released a new one... (I'd still be up for playing the original if I had a modded PS2)

The great thing about that game is the nets :w00t

Sounds daft but I fucking love a well made football net on a game.

You have wasted my 4 minutes, where the hell is my coupon! lol

Up Chris Brown's anus. ;)

But seriously, you make a good point mate. As someone said previously, Football Kingdom was a decent game, however not really a massive well marketed game. I honestly can't see another football game breaking into the market along with PES and FIFA. Many games have tried, but failed, games that spring to mind are:

Red Card Football
Total Club Football

I'm sure there is a few more. The way I see it is that, PES and FIFA have developed over 10+ years, and it would be incredibly difficult for another football game to fit into the football category beside them. They won't have a reputation, and I imagine even less money to market it.

EA have just released "skate" recently to compete with Tony Hawks mind, that was long overdue and the "skate" game by EA was certainly top draw. It has even overtook the Tony Hawk's franchise in it's only effort thus far, but because it was created by EA, you can bet they hoisted as much money behind it as possible.

Yeah Football Kingdom is not that bad...excellent passing, great shooting, and superb player movements. And its not as fast paced as Pes or as slow as Fifa its just right. I just hope Pes 2009 and the ones can emulate this game. And looking at these videos it will be better than Pes and Fifa some day.

best football game - [fifa 2002], then they got shit

The last decent FIFA I can honestly remember playing properly was FIFA 97. I played 98 a few times round a friends house and it was good, but nothing compared to ISS 98.

FIFAs 98 and 99 were both good game, but I discovered by ISS98 then, and so FIFA stood no chance.
