Patch v1.03 has improved the GAMEPLAY!!!

The new patch v1.03 has certainly improved the game. It has improved to such an extent that it feels like the perfect game. I'm not talking about the balls and boots. I'm referring to the gameplay. The biggest changes to gameplay after the v1.03 patch are (i) gamespeed (ii) dribbling (iii) passing (iv) goalkeepers and (v) referees.

(i) Gamespeed: It is certainly slower than before. With every patch, the game speed has been coming down, which is very good. Overall, the pace of the game is very very realistic. It feels more like football than a video game now.

(ii) Dribbling: Now the dribbling animations are smoother. The jerky movements are very very less now. The dribbling speed has also been reduced. Only yesterday, I could sprint from the right defending corner to right attacking corner with someone like Bosingwa in a flash. After the update, even with Lennon, though I could see he is one of the paciest players, I take more time to cover the pitch. The dribbling animations and speed are just about perfect now.

(iii) Passing: The short passing speed has been lowered. Earlier, the so-called 'ping-pong' existed for any player with a passing ability of more than 75 points. Now, only players with above 90 points short passing speed ability pass the ball at these speeds. The short passing speed of anyone (most of the players) who have a short passing speed of less than 90, is now very realistic. Only now, even in top matches like Chelsea vs Man Utd, you can see the ball receiver waiting for the ball to reach him before he makes his move. Earlier the ball used to zip across the pitch. Now it's very realistic. I also feel that the passing is lot more freer than it was before. The variety of attacking moves I'm able to make now are a testimony to this.

(iv) Goalkeepers: Improvement in goalkeepers. No more silly parries. They keep very well. They parry it when they have to. Basically, I think they now play true to their goalkeeping player abilities.

(v) Referees: They are certainly stricter. More fouls are being called. More penalties are given. They can still go wrong either ways but they can be error-prone but not scandalous as they were before.

What still needs to happen? The defenders, especially the side backs have to be lot more sharper and ruthless. They need to read the game better and anticipate attacking moves. They need to tackle more frequently and throw their bodies when it matters. Also, some of the stadiums I find unplayable due to the pitch graphics or lighting. Rest are fine with me.

For me, Winning Eleven 2010 was already a revelation and it is way better than PES 2010. With this patch, this game has got so much better. I'm loving it. This is not out of imagination, exaggeration or placebo effect. I have experienced all those things mentioned above. And, I'm writing this after playing several offline games. Having spent more than 20-30 hours in editing and testing alone, I can certainly see the difference when it's there.

We have got closer to a very perfect football game.

What platform are you playing on? PS3 or XBOX 360. I've hear some people playing on XBOX 360 saying that they got the boots and balls, but no gamplay changes?

right so when you start the game it downloads and installs the patch it did it last night!! its the third update ive seen before the game starts!, is there anything else you need to do?? because i never spot anything different?? but i just load my master league and carry on playing.

Dont think anything has changed?

but then I didnt mind how the game played anyway ive had some brilliant moments, goals and action through out my master league.
ok it still cheats like it did in all the pes from the first versiojns:-
scores in the last mins or scores off headers to catch up! you know when the computer is going to score because you cant get the ball off them for anything or stop them heading the ball!! but thats been the same since the snes versions!!

i still love playing it!! but i dont think this patch has changed the game play...but like I say could be me

Do you play on PC, PS3 or XBOX 360. Think Konami released DLC and patch V1.03 to PC and PS3. But only the DLC without patch to XBOX 360. I havent heard anyone with XBOX 360 who see any gameplay changes. But many PC/PS3 players says its like a whole new game.
Can i be right? If not, prove me wrong.

Can anybody with XBOX 360 write hear that they see all the gameplay update that bluechampion wrote in first post? Nobody will be happier than me if anyone can. Because im a XBOX 360 gamer!

I think I see a big difference as well! The gameplay is much better and slower!! I like it! The player reactions are slightly better as well! I was was playing against one of my homies online and he said the same thing!! Me likes it! But if the gameplay has changed then why don't Konami mention it?

If these changes really happened it would be mentioned in the patch notes. There would be no point in konami keeping all these things secret.

I do find it plays better now but I think thats because I'm getting better at the game.

I don't even think the patch was big enough to make all these changes.

placebo affect is kicking in.

The download is for Balls and Boots.

when you load the game after the update it shows you all the new balls and boots.

are you trying to tell me that if they had improved the gameplay, keepers and AI they wouldnt mention it all?

The DLC did NOT improve gameplay.

The original poster put this on PESFan and everyone on there agrees the DLC did NOT change gameplay.

The DLC did NOT improve gameplay. But there was a patch released at the same time to PS3/PC. But not for XBOX 360.

I've just played 3 games today and can confirm there is absolutly no changes to gameplay or refs or keepers.

Its exactly the same as pre patch which is no surprise because that just fixed formations saves.

Some people just WANT to be satisfied. Two people saying gameplay has improved while others saying it has not. I'd stick with others.

Four things:

1. A patch to improve the gameplay need not be in gigabytes. Most of these gameplay changes could be achieved by tweaking the player abilities stats or the weight of those stats. That's what I think Konami have also done. With the global editor that they might have, all that they could have done is to tweak the values globally and also at the same time maintain the balance in the game. A tweaked option file is only 5MB.

2. Since the release of PES 2010 and WE 2010, not even once Konami have told us in detail on the gameplay improvements they have made through patches. If that means nothing has happened gameplay-wise, I suggest you to play the unpatched retail copy of PES/WE 2010 and v1.03 of PES/WE 2010. Tell me if there are any gameplay differences. The v1.00 and v1.03 are two completely different games.

3. I play Winning Eleven 2010 which is a superior game to PES 2010 (which I also have). That could also be a reason why you don't see the changes that I see. Plus, gameplay experience can be impacted by various factors such as which TV you play on, whether it is SD or HD, size of the TV, the resolution of the TV, wireless/wired controllers, what you expect from the game, what kind of football you like etc. What is slow for you, could be fast for me. What's fluid for me may not be fluid for you. So, just say that you don't see the difference. Don't talk for me please.

4. The differences in gameplay are very obvious when you are playing for and against top teams. The teams which have most of their players in the 80s and 90s in most of the attributes. If master league is what you play, I think you may not see too much of a difference. If you're playing with top teams or champions league, you must see the difference. If you don't I'm sorry for you.

You always seem to tweak your games stats blue so really the rest ov us which jus alter the normal setting or jus pick up n play out the box nothing will have really changed, i still dont get penalties but fouls out the box are always frequent, GK seem the same maybe the dribbling looks sharper but i dunno, you have WE 2010 im just on PES 2010 and really i dont think thers much ov a difference if any between the 2 as it is except in the demos

Placebo effect most likely
