PES 2009 suggestions

- Slow the damn game down, the ball and run speed is appalling. I tend to take great pleasure in dictating the play and pace of the game, Premiership 90mph football is great to watch but I don't want to play it unless i want to rather than be forced to.

- Through balls, the direction finding is a bit bad. It seems to have changed now whereby your player will try and feed it automatically into the path of your runner. It seems pretty impossible to play the ball into the channels, especially lofted through balls - which tend to get cut out via defenders heading it away. In my experience diagonal lofted balls tend to be cut out more than straight ones and placed less intelligently, which is a bit wrong?

- Dribble ability needs to be toned down a bit, having some mug constantly skip past you with careless abandon is ridiculous.

- More stadia, what's the count for '08 - 6? Ridiculous, just sums up how rushed the game was.

- Graphics are frankly rubbish close up and the slowdown just shouldn't be happening especially for a game that doesn't even look that good.

- Serious investment in the network service

- Perhaps a link up with Sports Interactive to use some of their database (i'm not saying i want all the conference clubs in pro evo, just some depth and proper stats would be nice). For example Sheva, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo and the like are still superb players. Realistically they are fat, old and slow - although still with genuine class. Tone them down a little :|

- Take the time to actually play test the game properly.

- Slow the game down!!!!!

Bring back PES!!!

I started a league with Barca, I know they are the best in the game but beating Madrid 5-1 on top player difficulty is just ridiculous they managed 5 shots while I took 22.

It seems that I tend to pulverise the good opposition but only manage 1 goal wins against lower teams.

I think slowing the game down and making dribbling and ball control more difficult will make PES as challenging as it once was.

areas of improvement

Hi guys. My first post - i have alot of stuff, so please bear with the length:) and please comment!

In my oppinion Konami should focus on the following in the next release:

More opertunities for short passing during free kicks. (currently the player (still) doesnt even care how much you gauge the short pass)
Also, why add the "quick take" free kicks, when they are so rarely used... the player should be able to get the ball and take the free kick quickly, manually.

The Keeper should be quicker back on his feet after making a save.. In real football keepers often launch quick counter attacks in this manner. which brings me on to next subject; keeper throwing the ball. In the game the keeper always makes a slow lob with the ball when making a long throw. He should be able to make a harder throw and utilize the option to spin it, maybe even combining this with the "long throw" ability.

For online play, it would help if it was possible to set your location, so matches can be set up with people from your own country...

Also i was told that this time th choice of captain would have an impact, but i can not find any info on that anywhere in the game or manual.

But most important of all fix the master league:

Why can there only be 4 leagues? That is just not good enough! Furtheremore the league will (after some years) be infested with weird teams like Djursgaarden FC or Basel or something, even though it is "La Primera".

Regarding negotiation it has helped with the numerical indication of how much a player wants to join your team. But in order of a real negotiation to take place, it is required that you get an answer like: the player would like a higher (or maybe much higher) salery or the club would like a higher transfer fee. Otherwise its not a negotiation, but a guessing competetion. Sorry for my kinda of topic comment, but it leads me to my conclusion: improvement is still needed in the negotiation part of the game.

Other teams does not develop enough. it is my experience that the game stagnates when played 7-8 years+ into the future. A small remark, but a big problem.

How about geting each club some talent scouts or young players, instead of the current common poll that arrives each year in the winter break. Furthermore the computer teams almost never utilizes this poll, even though the players in it is better that the one on their teams... I believe this also adds to the previously mentioned stagnation of the game.

In general I think it would be nice to have alot more transfering going on?

Nice they have added the popularity-meter and different levels. but i got to super in 2 years, and so did all my friends.. it should be more difficult?

also get a real currency, instead of konami money.

Finally i think it would be a good idea to give the game the following twist or maybe just an option: When a master league game is started, the development curves of the players should be randomized. Kinda like the dungeons in diablo... In this way its not always the same players that keep dominating the game:)
Maybe it should not be completely randomized, but inside some kind of margin with respect to the predetermined curve - what do you think?

Best regards Søren Vodsgaard

Think you got all good points there.
I agree the most with you about the Master League, I don't understand why you can't create your own divisions(how much and how many teams).

Im getting a bit bored with the same classic teams since PES 2. The same 7 classic teams every year. I know these are the most historic footballing nations but how about some more classic teams and maybe a few classic club teams like Classic Man united, Liverpool, Celtic or Real madrid.

Licenses would be the tits but i dont know what chance Konami have ot getting these.
They desperately need the Premiership license, and hopefully then we can see some Championship teams.

The stadia, as impressive as they look, there needs to be plenty more of them.

Two-footed lunges. To unleash the anger ;)

Henry-Pires/Cruyff penalty. For a laugh.

Scenarios, for example, 'at half time England are 2-0 down to West Germany in the 1966 World Cup Final. Win the game and the cup for England!' etc etc...

Good rivalries, with better crowd/atmosphere, spectacles, and the occasional flare thrown on the pitch/crowd trouble. Makes it more realistic i guess...

They have to give us more choice on tactics. For example ill take a corner and my smallest player will be in the box whilst my big centre back is staying back, you should be able to change who stays where for set pieces and who goes on the post etc.

Crowds aswell the atmosphere is always shite, the grounds are always empty aswell even in big games whys that ?

That would so much controversy. Especially with the England Leagues current crack down on two footed lunges. And look at the reaction diving caused.

I remeber this is football had both diving and two footed challenges and they were great fun, but really didn't add much to the game

You can do this on next gen versions already. Not sure about PS2...

Change master league.

Have better statistics on player performance during your season.

Get some decent fuckin background, professional sport looking, like Sky SPorts or somit. Its 2008!!!! Konami are so out of touch with the footballing world. SO so Japanesse!

in heated games like man u v arsenal you should have the ability to do a deliberate foul. and maybe the option to push after the play has stoped.

Argumentum ad populum via much of what's already been posted.

ML needs more depth and variety, certainly. Real-time chemistry levels in in different areas should be viewable as you field different combos, instead of just the generic and overarching stats like "Teamwork". I also agree that negotiations need more, well, negotiation to them (counter offers, more specifics, etc).

The dreaded AI deification needs dealing with immediately. For instance, very few players should be able to make it through Liverpool's midfield and defense with the disgusting ease and regularity that such occurs (maybe if the defenders would actually mark players instead of standing around or even running away from their marks), and you can't seriously tell me that the CBs of Saudi Arabia and Austria can outrun and shutdown Cruiff, Van Basten, etc, of Classic Netherlands every single time the latter goes on the break. Frustrating.

That sort of incessant harassment by the AI is very unrealistic. Defenders don't always charge like hell as soon as the ball lands at their opponents' feet. Forwards don't always manage to blaze past everyone and dribble like Maradona or have sticky feet like Cruijff or bend it like Bergkamp. There's no real time to develop and implement real tactical play on either side. You must either charge or be charged. It's not too bad when playing in the EPL, because that's how the league plays much of the time. In Spain, Netherlands, Italy, and international play, however, it's really annoying.

I posted about what i wanted to see on this years game last year, and obviously none happened!! so i'll say again what i thinks needed.

It seems as though nobody has mentioned much about gameplay when there is so much to improve. i love editing the game but first and foremost gameplay and atmosphere of the game needs drastic improvement.

Firstly, why does L2 or left trigger do nothing? why not if ive got the ball with c.ronaldo can i not hold down L2 and press X producing a little flick instead of a standard pass, players like Ronaldinho Robinho Zlatan Ronnie Nani and others should be able to do special flicks or tricks with the L2 button and X or right stick for a combo. It doesnt need to be extreme and arcady like fifa but i want to replicate ronaldos tricks and step overs but can't. seeing as seabass sed in an interview he wants to recreate evrything he sees in a real game, i dnt understand y i cant.

Through balls need power bars i want to control where theyre going, tricks if timed perfectly should completely fool defenders and wheres a rabona cross. . .no1 shoots like it!!

Shooting when its raining should skid along the floor and keepers should find it more difficult in those conditions also the shirts should be soaked, like on drakes when he gets wet, the pitch should cut up like the tracks on motorstorm, players get muddy, water fly off the net when its hit with a powerful strike. this all imporves the atmosphere and realism of the game. certain pitches should become boggy with the rain, if i play wigan it becomes hard to dribble on the rain soaked soggy surface.

strong defenders need to be stronger, owen shouldnt be able to have any chance of taking on rio or terry his movment and passes to him shoul create his goals.

Dives have been implemented poorly, ronaldo should be targeted by some refs but others should be fooled like in real life. if its very crowded around the player who goes over the decision should be harder and sometime the ref should signal he think its a dive when its a foul.

Keepers obv need improbing but thats clear. players should show more emotion when hitting the post or being hit with a hard tackle. there should be hundreds of tackle, fould, shot header, keeper animations, its next gen, i shouldntsee the same one twice for 20-30 games. Animations this year are so poor. . .the heel trick and stepovers looks so slow, ronaldo is on the front cover y was he not mo captured? his free kcik tech, dribbling, step overs.

Lower teams like Birmigham should play very defensively against better teams and not play 4-4-3 like some do when im man u. . .that would never happen.

The computer should not be able to keep up with ronaldo when the defender is kevin kilbane, its ridiculous.

HUman error should come into it, evry 30 games my keeper should slice his kick to the striker or def play a poor backpass, ref, lino's make poor decisions. . . .the game just needs completely re-doing!!!

theres so much more to say but its becoming a rant!! Sort it outt konami!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I nearly agree Frank

What are your suggestions to improve PES for next year or what new ideas do you have for the game?

I'll start off.

Fix the online service.
Change the master league completely.
More club teams, english championship and more european leagues including Germany, portugal, Turkey and Scotland.
more editing options.

Im sure there are plenty of others you can think of.

Yeah I'll agree with you there Frank. We need more leagues-Scottish, German, Portuguese etc. I personally don't think the current online service is too bad, apart from the few annoying probs I've had, but they're fixed now. I do prefer the PES6 online service though.
I would also enjoy a more comprehensible editing mode. But the thing I would like the most (listen up Konami) is BETTER CROWD GRAPHICS as at the moment they are pretty horrific.
And as FrankGrimes so rightly said, I bet you can think of plenty of others.
