Just played a game of Fifa10 there again after playing PES, and I have to say the difference in graphics is fairly big. Even in the opening scene it just feels more real. The responsiveness is a major flaw though, and the lack of skills.

As far as I see it the 'skills' you can use in Fifa only detract from the the fact you're in a football match. They're pointless. How many teams/players do you see doing those type of things in a match? Very rarely. In training/loading/shooting practice thingy, fine. Not every 10 seconds in a match. It only goes to emphasise how much more the game is focused on arcade style play than PES IMO.

Nah, it's far from hollow. The manual controls have been improved this year and that on it's own elevates it way above Pro Evo where the manual passing is still rubbish. When you add to that the true 360 dribbling, you feel a certain freedom and sense that ANYTHING can happen that you don't get in Pro Evo. The 360 dribbling just isn't really there, and the d-pad is still the best way to play. The animations are amazing as well in Fifa, when in a physical battle the players react perfectly to every touch. They've improved in Pro Evo too to a certain degree, but they're still well behind.

Aside from that there's little touches that don't improve the gameplay but are really nice anyway, such as the ref jumping over the ball to avoid it when a pass comes his way.

I was praying Konami would give us something spectacular this year because i was as diehard Pro Evo as anyone until this time last year, and it's still kinda where my heart lies, but it's not to be.

IGN just reviewed fifa a 9.3, not too bad eh?

FIFA 10 is a culmination of the efforts poured into the franchise since it made the leap to the current generation, efforts that have helped it leapfrog Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer and become the premier football game these past couple of years. If FIFA 08 and 09 were statements of intent, then this is the killing blow, and it's going to take something extraordinary for anything to come close to this for some time to come. "

^It's an opinion in the end. Pes 10 and fifa 10 are both looking good.

Here an excerpt from Eurogamer's review. Their opinion of course

"In 1986, my beloved Liverpool were rampant: already 16-times First Division champions, FA Cup holders, four-time European Cup winners, with Ian Rush leading the line and Kenny Dalglish in a manager's seat embossed by our first ever double the previous season. The subsequent decline throughout the nineties was largely self-inflicted, but it didn't help that a sweary Scotsman had arrived at Old Trafford, and started making good on his promise to "knock Liverpool off their f***ing perch".

Pro Evolution Soccer finds itself in the Liverpool role these days. Demoted to second-best in 2008 after a few years of increasing stagnation, Konami will not enjoy FIFA 10. Conflicting embargoes mean that we can't put the two latest instalments head to head until our PES 2010 review on 15th October, but unless something dramatic has happened since last month, the gap is ever more significant. If last year saw FIFA knocking PES off its perch, this year it's chasing it around the birdcage with a plank of wood and a sledgehammer."

I really don't understand why anyone would buy a game on the back of a few good reviews. All that'll tell you, by way of number of bad verdicts vs. good verdicts is whether the game is decent or an absolute shocker. At the end of the day liking and disliking a game is all down to someone's opinion, and that's just what a review is whether it's from your best mate, your nan or an online source.

Play it for yourselves. If you like it, get it. If you don't, don't. :)

i do prefer fifa 10 but i am certainly pleased with number of comments especially regarding the fact that it feels like pes six ps2, this is a big thing for me. I just wish they had the gameplay to go with those stunning graphics and player models. The game is showing more promise than i anticipated a few days ago. This is without doubt the best year there has ever been for football fans.

I was wondering weather someone would be able to post a video of a manual game. I feel the default passing is to arcadey and does not do the game justice

Not trying to take anything away from Fifa 10 but those are the same bastards that gave Pes 2008 for the PS3 a 9.2. Ign are shit. No one should take them seriously.

Is it just me or is anyone else worried about the seemingly lack of any advantage rules in this game?

I must have played around 50 games overall, on both demos and not once have I seen the ref play an advantage or pull play back for a free-kick. I've pulled off some horrendous tackles and seen play continue with no acknowlegment of any advantage being played or even my own team continuing with the ball. Worrying indeed. :erm:

Yeah, the above is disgusting scoring, point taken.

Eurogamer gave fifa 10 9/10, not sure how reliable their scoring is but hey only 7 days away from the finished version on release anyways.

Goalkeepers are improved!

Man they really need to fix the goalkeepers.I can't play PES with such retarted keepers,it looks so arcadish.

I played a couple of games last night. On at least 4 seperate occasions, both the AI keeper and my AI controlled keeper made diving saves and then scrambled to cover the ball.

I have bever seen that sort of behavior from a goalkeeper in any other version of the game that I have played (PES 6, 2008, 2009).

I see a big improvement in goalkeeping this year.

What's next? Me ignoring your every post.
In 720p I already said that there's no difference, but in 576p (non HD resolution) it truly becomes better.
So before you speak, read my posts otherwise I'll ignore you.

What sort of threat is that? I think I can move on with my life if you ignore me champ.

I'm commenting on the premise that a game released on a specific platform requires the platform be adjusted to cater to the game rather than the other way around.

Does that no sound daft to you?

I just took a shot on goal that skimmed past the post and hit the ad boards behind the goal. The keeper picked the ball up as it bounced back into the pitch. I enjoyed that very much.

Also in corner kicks, they save powerful close range headers that go straight down the middle and high, which seldom happened in previous versions.

I can only imagine what a keeper with super reflexes will be able to do in this version.

Definitely an improvement.

In fact, this is probably the most exciting PES version i've ever played.

Every Barca player looks and almost moves like the real counterpart.

As for the people in the previous page that are bringing reviews into this, i wouldn't take them too seriously, if i were you. There's a lot of money involved in gaming, specially in these two games. I wouldn't be surprised if some of these cunts have been payed off by the companies or third parties linked to them. Seriously. It happens all the time.

The 360 control is just a mess. It is barely noticable, jutters and staggers when moving, makes the movement sluggish and its really annoying when im running and i change direction slightly even though i havnt tried to and then it makes my player stop sprinting.

I rather say f*** it and lets just have 16 way movemnt so i can quickly dart around the place and run around people.

Dude, IGN and Gamespot are both straight in the back pockets of EA and have been for some time. Reviews mean nothing- even infamously crappy games like FIFA 2003 got great reviews.

Did you play the FIFA 10 demo?

Yes, it was fun, and if I was a few years younger and understood football less clearly I'd probably have preferred it over PES... but it resembles football only in that the players run around on grass and kick a ball. It's like playing ice hockey, and I've played a lot of ice hockey, both in real life and in video games. Not to mention, as always, play progresses in the same patterns, no matter what tactics you or your opponent employs or where your players are positioned, etc. You're still forced into moving up the pitch in the same ways, scoring goals in a few set ways, etc. Your computer opponent is the same way, and this is what makes FIFA so BORING so quickly. Hell, I've had the demo for a few days and I'm already tired of it.

FIFA's a fun game to mess about with when friends are over, no doubt, but it's an arcade game, not a football sim. There's no variety in play and it feels nothing like real football- as usual.

Not to mention, the graphics are absolutely terrible. It's like the HD version of FIFA '99 on 360. As soon as I played my first match on the demo I was reminded exactly why I left the series. The funny thing is that on forums I've visited the FIFA demo has got a universally negative response and the apologists and fanboys are now claiming this is only a 75% build. lol.

I went into the demo with an open mind and actually hoping I'd like it so I could buy it and play online with my friends (who, yes, are all EA Sports lemmings) but in my opinion FIFA '98 has more realistic gameplay than this. At least '98 feels like playing football. To me FIFA 10 is simply unplayable.

Now, as for my issues with the PES demo:

What is with the slow button response? This NEEDS to get sorted. When I play PES I rely on quick passing and in the demo it's hard to pull off because of the slow response.

I like the smoothness of the demo and the improved shooting, but while the animations are improved, they're still quite lacking, and goalkeeper animations haven't changed since PES 6. Back then they blew FIFA's out of the water, but now they're very outdated.

Aside from that, I quite like the game. The graphics are stunning, passing (minus the huge button lag) is hugely improved, players don't make these spasmatic hyper fast turns. Basically an improvement from '09, as promised, and I'm sure the full game will be even better.
