I tried out the patch now and my impression is that it "pacifies" the AI a great deal, making it what I would call somewhat cautious and non-aggressive (kind of like castrating a male cat).
I tried to play Inter v. Milan (me being Inter, difficulty being top level/the hardest) with and without the patch. I won both times, first with 3-0 (no patch) and then with 2-0 (default AI). What struck me however was that with the patch applied the AI was
completely harmless - it wasn't even
close to scoring as opposed to the default AI which had some good, qualified chances and was very close to equalizing on a number of occasions.
I compared the stats also and what stood out was that with the patch applied the AI only had managed 4 shots (3 on goal) as opposed to 7 shots (4 on goal) for the default AI.
Even more remarkable was that with the patch applied the AI committed 7 fouls (1 offside), i.e. gave away a great number of free-kicks. The default AI though committed only 1 foul consisting of an offside-offense - hence was defending more or less flawlessly.
If anything the game with the patch applied reminded me of playing against a mediocre human opponent and I didn't feel as good about scoring as I usually do where you're like
"YES! Got you, you f*cker!".
Personally I think I prefer to play with the default AI as I like a good challenge, as frustrating as it may be sometimes.
Nevertheless it would be really interesting with some in-depth information about what the patch actually does/removes. Also, maybe it would be possible to release different versions of the patch so you can choose yourself what specific scripts you want to keep/have removed?
Finally I would like to send a big greeting to the developer of the patch for doing his best to improve the game we all love (to hate :happy
.
