PES5/6 were not perfect...not by any means...
But I would gladly take the problems we had with PES5/6 over the problems we are now faced with in the last 2 titles...

In comparison...
PES12 has more wrong with it than PES5/6 ever did...
And why is this?!

We are 5 years forward from those days...
But the game seems to develop new and wonderful, more irritating flaws with each iteration!

For example...the refs...
How in one version they get the refs spot on...
12 months later...the refs are broken?!
Do we not know what copy and paste is!?
Are KONAMI SOOOOOO bad at identifying stuff that ACTUALLY needs fixed..and stuff that should be left alone?!

And that's Seabass saying already...
"PES2013 will be a completely different animal to what you are playing already"
Which is what he said this time last year...
and the year before that...

And then we come to "how" actually konami "fixes" things...
If something doesn't work, or causes an issues...then just remove it from the game!

Goalkeepers are poor...ok...how do we fix this!
OK - GREAT IDEA!
lets remove shot technique...
put 5 defenders infront of the goalkeeper at all times for protection...
then why don't we make the goal posts smaller as well!...
BANG - Keepers Fixed...

Rather than addressing the issue at hand...
they just go for the blue tack and sticky back tape approach!

Goalkeepers since PES2008 have not really evolved along with other parts of the game...
The animations of the goalkeeper when making saves still looks awful...
The keeper just doesn;t seem to move as fluid as the outfiled players...
The keeper seems to turn round and face his back to a stricker sometimes when coming in at angles on goal...
AND
the STUPID script where the keeper catches the ball, but some how NEVER goes over the touchline as he is stopped by an invisible wall!...
i mean...WTF!...lol...

I'm sorry...how KONAMI can sit back for the last 5 years and say...
"yeah, those keepers are good!" "Thats worthy of a £40 price tag, again!"

We go on about the bad things on this...
there is good things in the game, don't get we wrong...

its just i WISH KONAMI would actually WORK on ISSUES that NEED sorted!

Next year keepers might be sorted...
but the refs will be back to stevie wonder again!

Just a joke the KONAMI work ethic!

In terms of gameplay, I am loving PES this year. I played Pro Evo on PS2 and PC yesterday just to compare and contrast the titles and whilst games like PES has that solidity PES 2012 is by far the better in what you can achieve and create.

So in terms of gameplay, the new PES IS THE BEST YET!

However, I am also getting inclined to agree with people of your mindset about KONAMI in general. It's PES 6 time; whether you liked it or preferred PES 5 more that is not the argument right now, we had a generation of football gamers thinking it was football heaven and for it's time they were right. Even playing it yesterday I can say that the ball physics for example are still much, much better than they are now. Passing is more believable and shooting is just a joy.

The CPU pass the ball about in defence neatly on the higher levels to draw you out and don't get me started on the keepers - simply out of this world. Even compared to FIFA animation standards the goalies in PES6 are totally believable, the way they fall, the way they handle the shots they stop or palm round the post.

PES6 or even 5 if you prefer, were just stunningly solid gripping footy games.

AND NOW WE'VE HAD OF WHAT SEEMS LIKE A THOUSAND YEARS OF KONAMI FKING EVERYTHING UP

I wrote on another forum that last night I had a wonderful PES2012 time, the games were varied and excellent, and NO KEEPER blunders.

BUT, the problem with this years PES is that you're just waiting for THAT blunder. You feel like it's more luck than judgement that the goalies don't just go all skitz on you.

Listen I love PES, and when it clicks this year it is the best no doubt. I'm not a FIFA boy, too many sweet spots too easy a game. But enough is surely enough with KONAMI and I'm starting to join the growing minority who are just absolutely fed up with their shoddy production.

This year we have a game that comes out, and the releases are all over the shop. UK customers have to wait two weeks til after everybody else thus handing any sales momentum directly over to FIFA straight away in the UK. Then we have the different BLES codes making editing a nightmare. Then we find that the released game is so far out of date that Bruce Grobbelaar is still in goals for Liverpool and that Anders Limpar is strutting his stuff for Arsenal.

Then we all find out after some extensive play that the goalies are diabolical. We then also find out that the game behaves differently on the PS3 to the PC to the Xbox, where people also find out that there is a stutter bug. During this time we have had normal people in the community like Alan editing this stat and that, Jenkey releasing constant patches for gameplay and instant replay slot saves increase, kits and rosters updates and people designing patches to edit camera angles etc. HONESTLY, the fking people on these forums are doing more work in a week than KONAMI in a year!

Then I went online just to test, and it was a nightmare. Lag all over the place and the game run by Barce/Messi/Madrid/CR7 sprint whores. That's if you're not disconnected.

Then we find (or at least I have) that the game also behaves differently with different tv settings, drastically in some cases. We then have to switch the gamespeed down a notch or two to make CPU pass the ball and for it not to be 100mph. We also cannot customise (still) the camera angles. Most people in the UK by now would have bought the product and immediately downloaded all content thus not knowing what pre-patch was and how it played. I had the US version and so played pre-patch for a while, I then started hating the game, shortly after installing the data pack, at least now I know that it was the patch that destroyed everything. It only emerged much later that the post patch is nothing like pre-patch in terms of gameplay and that all the "fixes" were designed to hide the fact that the keepers were shit - so what did KONAMI do, made every team play with 8 defenders and made all shots go centrally. Nice one KONAMI; some genius in production must have had a promotion for that idea (right up until the point where someone noticed that post patch tried to pull the wool over our eyes).

So, now we have -

1) Play the game in pre-patch which is much better with shit keepers and no-online
or
2) Play post patch, have every game the same repetitive mess, have shots go in the centre but alas the keepers are good, and you can go online.

I have been silent about the way KONAMI have conducted themselves through all the dark hours on next gen, and have put it down to 'it must be something cultural, oh but bless them for trying'....not any more.

Those days are long game. What I want now, in fact what I demand in this day and age for my hard earned and staking KONAMI's future wuth my cash is a game that resembles something complete.

YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING to suggest that this game was pre-tested for any reasonable length of time. Either I've already put more PES hours in than the entire KONAMI team to see the problems or they playtested and thought fk this we'll just leave the keepers as they are.

Either way it is shoddy, like all the other stuff I've mentioned and is just NOT acceptable anymore. If they want to fight in the ring with the big boys they have to get their shit together and judging by sales figures in Japan, they have to get their shit together quickly.

It's the modern age, they need to patch these keepers, get their servers sorted and generally become much, much more professional. People like me are now not willing to give them more chances, we have been burned too often.

When PES2012 plays its best I firmly believe it is a great game, but that man between the stick at the moment is the difference between a 6/10 game and a 9/10 game (offline anyway and for me personally). The rest I can live with re physics and everything. Although like I touched upon, I too fail to see how KONAMI have gone totally around the mullberry bush more or less back were we started at PES6 development.

techboy11 - superb post!
And agree'd 1000% with you!
Just need the other 90% of PES fans to feel like that!

PES12 is the best game to date...when it clicks...
But 90% of the time, it doesn't click...it drags its heals..backwards!...lol

I agreed with everything that was said above apart from the patch. I played both pre and post and I definitely think that the keepers are a lot better and the game is improved. I just think its in peoples heads and you cant set up your tactics properly.

I also live in the North West England and my broadband speed is 10mbit, and ive played 40 games and had only 2 with lag and it quit, awarding me with the wins... Much improved game this year and Konami is finally doing a great job in my opinion.

Maybe people should stop whining on here and play the game lots, eventually you will get good and be able to beat people. Because lets face it, if you were winning you wouldn't be complaining haha! My friends always complain when they lose against me, "shit animations" "I didnt press that" "Through balls don't work!"... This is odd because everything is fine for me?!

On PES 6 I got to number 9 in the online rankings, but I had to play every day against real people and it takes time but you will get it!

It's not that the keepers have improved mate, they are probably the same. It's that Konami changed the gameplay so that all shots more or less go straight at the keeper. TO me it's obvious in terms of gameplay that pre patch you had control over shots with lousy keepers and post patch limited control over shots but good keepers (not necessarily good just that they stopped more shots as they went central)

La Decima
Its simple really, Kanomi sold out to EA.....its unmistakeable and the transition can be traced back through the games, EA started to incorporate PES6 moves while Kanomi started using Fifa gameplay which was inferior and it continued through to today, Fifa is now miles better because of this while Pro is gone to the dogs much to EA's delight......

Agree'd!
A poor attempt from KONAMI to fix an issue...
but not really fixing it...and making other things worse...

Also
its nothing to do with how to learn how to play the game...
(previous post)
There is a SMALL period of adjustment with any new game...
But not to the degree that some people think is needed when a new PES comes out!

The game is broken and needing fixed in certain parts of the game...
Not all...But Its been there since PES2008...and is still there in PES2012!
FACT!

Now either the people that don't see these issues have a unique copy of the game...
or they play the game in such away that none of these obvious issues manifest themselves to the user...

If you are one of those lucky few...and you feel the game is "perfect"
and we all need to become better at PES....

Well...
its you that KONAMI are probably listening to over the "small" minority that's actually thinking otherwise...

Again...PES is not bad...
But its not great either!

Yeah maybe I do play the game differently then! I'm sorry but the keepers were terrible before the patch, I think all they have done is restored some code from a previous pes. As far as the ball going straight at the keeper, well... I'm sorry but ive not had much problem with this, I can run clean through and put the ball in the net any corner I want. And with long range shots sometimes they go in and sometimes not, like real life!

Ha they can listen to me all they want, I'm just happy that since playing the game since Pro Evo 1, we have the best game in the series. It may not be much improved but it is the best. Which is a step in the right direction.

Do you realise how hard it is to make a game? I'm a web developer and work with HTML, CSS, Javascript. Which is hard enough but creating a game is another level! I don't think some of you realise what is, and what isn't possible with limited resources also. EA is a giant compared to Konami, they could out-pay people and probably have some of the original pro evo developers anyway!

All other games that come out on a yearly basis have little improvement between iterations... COD, pretty much all sports games. I'm working on a 2 year project at the moment and a year just flew by! If Konami had 2 or 3 years they would probably have something great but they don't so I think what they have done is good enough and people should just get down and play this great football game that we are lucky to have.

Lets face it, if there was no PES, there would only be FIFA and we would all be playing that and it would be a lot worse because of lack of competition!

Pes 5 and or 6, should have had better animations added, more licences, more stadiums, licences for real competitions etc added over the years. Where would it be today?? The perfect footie sim!!. And where are we now???

You know what you're absolutely right Wallpaper, now that you've put it like that I can stop my moaning and we can all gather round the PES camp fire and sing Kumbaya!

We truly should be grateful to KONAMI for these incomplete rosters, a post patch which renders gameplay obsolete and makes every shot go directly at the keeper, and in 9/10 cases completely rubbish online play. The KONAMI staff are obviously working FLAT OUT and to be fair they have only been given 365x5=1825 days to get the CUNTING keepers right!!!! In the week after release this is what the forum members did, you know average Joe's in the street -

1) Universally started to edit lots of stats to make keepers more responsive (Alan), they had to do this through trial and error as the wishy washy KONAMI description of what anything does is like Hebrew in itself. Apparently passing speed is the keepers ability to dive and heading accuracy means that they can play scrabble better

2) Jenkey tweaked the game 4 times, including adding a scale of match speed, eradicating the CPU cheats, bringing out more replay slots, importing multi-scoreboard function, adding or lessening ball weight and shot power, adding or taking away replays for goals, free kicks etc, adding LOD's, and even imparting his gameplay if you wish.

3) A whole host of people made kits, logos, emblems, stadia, roster packs which included changes to divisions etc and changes to teams so that John Barnes and Ronny Rosenthal were taken out of the Liverpool team

4) Some guy brought a camera exe file out where you can edit everything about the cameras

5) A multitude of other tweaks and refinements if you want them....

6) I could on but I'm boring myself

What did KONAMI do - bring out a patch that TOTALLY changed the active AI and give every striker the ability to hit the keeper every time! LOL - it's fkin hilarious if you think about it, that's like a Gran Turismo patch coming out that renders right or left steering useless!!

If you give me KONAMI's number I'll gladly give them another £40 because I should be grateful I'm playing their product.

Now, where's my face....and where's my palm.

I can see where you're coming from with what you say. I think the latest iteration is a very good game after the stuff we were served at the start of next gen. But, as I've highlighted here and elsewhere if the keepers are so poor it spoils the game totally even though 98 per cent of the match may be stunning. Until a patch comes out that solves this and gets gameplay back to pre patch gameplay with solid keepers I'm taking a break from PES for a little while. I'm in fact going to load up my PC PES 6 tonight.

If you analyse it all you're right in what you're saying. Many see PES 6 as the start of the fall, I do out. The ball physics, The passing, The shooting, The individuality, The keepers, all top top notch. Some of the keeping and the animations is superb. Where have KONAMI been all this time. What people are getting it Is that it Is mind boggling in this day and age to have something completely broken like a goaly, who is one of the most important parts of the game. I get the odd occasion on the new PES where I'm like, get in there when I score, but the shooting in old PES games was just superb and you felt the goal.

This game needs urgent patching in my opinion.

I was one of the first persons to say that the keepers are great in pes 2012, but after the patch i've seen some horrible mistakes that are simply unacceptable. Like when they run out and run kind of sideways!?!? Has anyone else noticed this, as the keeper does this the attacker can just place the ball in the opposite side of the goal.
At first i didn't believe it, but i actually prefere the goalkeeping before the patch :(

I think this thread is bang on the button.

I am a PES fan boy, as we all are, I have bought every single PES, there has always been something special about pes, it's so playable, nothing beats 4 people playing at once, it's the only game i really play now and the only reason i buy consoles, loads of controllers, multitaps etc. BUT.

It doesn't go anywhere. Consoles get better, other games get better, no matter how much i hate FIFA i can recognise and admit it has got a hell of a lot more playable over the years.

I don't understand why Konami are so adamant at trying to destroy the legacy of PES.

I loved PES 6, it may have not been perfect, nothing is, but it was amazingly playable. I kept my PS2 just for that game and played it solidly for God knows how long.

To me it just seemed that Konami had to make a few tweaks here and there, make some things more realistic while trying to balance with playability and they would have a 10 out of 10 masterpiece. People aren't as stupid as some of us may think, if they had made PES 2008/2009 etc into masterpieces, even without offical licences, then they would have sold more than they did and with that extra income they could invested into more Licences etc. With a bit of consolidation and once they had all the licences etc then they would have been unstoppable, they would have taken complete market share just like the COD games have.

To me Konami is badly run and whoever is responsible for the PES games have made very bad decisions over the years.

Look at Sony and Nokia. Sony had the market share of portable music players, they made bad decisions [sonic stage etc], they got whooped by Apple on MP3 players. Nokia had control of Mobile phones, they got whooped by Iphone and Android etc.

Konami had a great game, looks like they are going to get whooped by FIFA, eventually, after another 2-3 years. [they couldn't have made it easier for FIFA if they tried]

Do i stop buying PES and hope others follow suit and hope Konami get the message and get their act together?
Or do i just bite the bullet and make do with FIFA and hope it continues to approve as PES goes backwards.

FIFA gets better.
PES gets worse.
The inevitable is going to happen.

Bring back RANDOM SELECTION MATCH !

Or do you buy the PC version of PES, install all the amazing gameplay mods, and kit mods, and commentary mods, and enjoy it without ever having to think of FIFA? PES 2011 modded was the best football game I've played. Anyone with a console doesn't know what they're missing.

This is what i meant by RANDOM SELECTION MATCH:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ri1TL3I9-oc

That video is better than any porn i have ever watched.

It is probably this best feature in any game i have ever played, hands down.
Bunch of mates, 5 picks each, unbeatable.

Does anyone know which games on which console have this feature?

I know the last few i have bought on the XBOX360 don't have it and PES6 only on the PS2, not the XBOX360 had it.

I know what you are saying about the PC version, i had a go on my mates laptop the other day, connected to the TV and it was a hell of a lot better than the 360 version. But my laptop's graphic card isn't good enough so it means splashing the cash on a decent laptop or computer and then all the messing around with mods, getting controllers to work on it etc, when i'm crap on computers. It's much more convenient on a console for n00bs like me.

Btw i find it very strange that these people at home had managed to make the shooting miles better when Konami with all their equipment and staff etc did their best to utterly bugger it up. My friend had it so you could actually score rocket shots again, even if it wasn't that realistic it was still miles better than the horrible air flow floaters on the 360.

Can't Konami employ these people to sort the game out? Maybe it is the only chance PES has now.

Another Day...Another View...

Started a Master League...With Rangers...
Rangers STATS are mental since adding my "created" player....how only has a ratting of 79!!! BCCB something like that...no A's

RANGERS were DDCDDD what ever....it now has A rating and 99 for 3/6 stats now?!?!
ANd not just in Master League...even exhibition mode...
Strange...

Anyway...back to game to play...
Got it on 6 Star Difficulty...SuperStar...
And is it me or does the game feel easier than when played on 3/4/5 stars!!??!?!

Rangers V AJAX in a Friendly for 1st Training Game in ML...
i CRUISED it 5-0!...AJAX were non exsistant...
Played another game....same thing...though the CPU scored this time thanks to my defenders not jumping to head the ball...or even show ANY interest!
3rd game...another 4-0 easy victory!

Started ML again on the next setting down on diffulicty...or was it 2?
Anyways!...
opening training game again Panithanikos!....got pumped 3-0!!!

Haha is this a joke?! Seriously?!

Right well its sorted! Lets get all those people who changed a couple of numbers on the keepers and drew a couple hundred logos in a paint program and lets create our own football game!!!

With all our ideas im sure it will be better than anything Konami could do, obviously they can't be bothered, I mean all they have to do is tweak a few numbers and all the fans will be happy!

What a joke... Some people are seriously stupid. Lets see techboy draw a 3d football character, let alone put him in a stadium, with a pitch and stands, filled with fans, stadiums that are near accurate to their real life counterparts. Then wait! Maybe draw a couple more thousand characters, sort them into teams, with individual stats to make them come to life... But thats only the start! Thats just a database. You need to make them move and act like real footballers, so this means motion capture and thousands of lines of hand written unique code and months of testing even on the smallest details! Then also there needs to be an online mode... Should I go on?

Jesus do you have any clue!? Cut them some slack, this game is brilliant and has its faults but lets see you do better, with your editing friends!

Prick!

So him correctly pointing out that a few amateur programmers and modders improved the game and gameplay 10 times over in a week, where Konami had a year to work on all this, really REALLY pissed you off... is what you're trying to say.
