Playing out of position

Is there any advantage in playing players in their positions? Ie. does performance drop if, for instance, you play a CF as a AMF, if that player does not have AMF as one of their listed positions?

thanks

I think from what I've heard over the years that the player's performance might be affected if he's played out of position. The player will play to his best ability in his favoured position, but will also play comfortably in his other secondary positions (which are always shown in his profile, the numerous positions he's able to play). However if played out of position, don't be surprised if he seems a little lost. Sometimes though these factors don't make a huge difference, especially if the player is simply immense - but be warned.

I dno, I think i've had different experiences from Hunter.

Whenever I play people out of position it doesn't relaly seem to affect their footballing ability.

So long as a CF has Body balance at like 99 or whatever, it'd be fine to play him as a CB because he'd be strong enough to deal with the opposition.

It has more of an effect on Fifa (if you've played that) because when you move a plyer out of position, you actually see their overall stat being changed.
No such thing happens in Pro, so if you wanted to play people out of position, as long as they have the right stats you're looking for in the particular positions, you should be fine.

That's always been the cause of confusion with PES though, the "hidden stat system". For example, depending on the fitness arrows, the player's stats can rise or fall drastically, yet it doesn't specify this through stats. Your only hope of knowing exactly is by looking for the graph online or by purchasing the strategy guide.

I'm sure I remember reading in the PES6 strategy guide that playing players outside of their preferred positions affects their performance though, if only slightly.

I had a game a game with my friend and he chose Ajax. He put Emanuelson who is a SB as a CF because of his great speed. Long story short, He scored a hattrick with him and for me it finishes that debate. I'm better than him by far and it's not about my bad defensive ability, but I think it doesn't make a difference in the player ability, but it does affect his rating.

This effects most in BAL. But It doesn't effect in normal matches. If on BAL you go out of position you lose rating points. But if the coach plays you in a position that you don't have ticked then it won't effect unless you go out of position.

It would be interesting to conduct an experiment to see how a team fares when all the players are in the wrong positions. And the same for the opposition... :)
