Is that so? 50 pounds cheaper.. Not bad. In any case, the 20gb version's hardware is upgradeable right?

There will be an external Wi-Fi upgrade available for the 20 Gig version but there is still no news of an upgrade for the Flash Card compatability.

An external PS1/PS2 Memory Card/Controller Port upgrade will also be available for both the 20 Gig and 60 Gig versions.

Well then, I might just be getting the 60gb one to avoid confusions.

A few questions though:

1. I heard stories of the PS3 overheating, true? (Just like what they said about the PS2 slim when it came out, but it never happend to me)

2. I have never tried online gaming which I want so badly, does anyone know how to set these things up or what do I need?

3. Can it play on normal TV? Yes, Ok maybe it won't show its true powers on a normal TV, but I can't spend over $450 just yet, maybe in the long run, I will get a better TV.

4. Please don't tell me that ALL PS3 controllers have that boomerang-esque looking controllers? I've seen some models that use controlleres similar to the DualShock, hope it's true.

5. Can I input songs and videos, watch movies with the PS3? :)rolleyes:, just wanting to make sure)

6. How much will a PS3 game be sold for? If you have any ideas...

7. With this PS3 offer that I hope I can get, comes with a free game. I don't want to spend this free game on something like Woods 07, NBA 2K7 (as I know what they can offer), but is Resistance: Fall of Man actually good? I heard it's the highest selling game so far, something must be good about it.

7. Is there anything I need to know or buy before purchasing a PS3? (Except a HD TV)

I've seen many comparisons with XBOX 360 and PS3, and believe me for one second I am actually considering getting a 360 instead. And a lot say 360 is much better and it's much cheaper for better graphics. What annoys me is when they say PS3 is way over-priced. Hey, these things never come cheap do they? :)

I guess I'll stick with the PS3, 360 is definitely amazing and I admire it and its thread on this forum, but PS3 has my heart.

Aslong as GTA 4, PES7 (and some exceptional games such as Gran Turismo & Assasins Creed) come out, I'll be more than content with a PS3.

If anyone can answer any of my questions, I'll appreciate it a lot. :D

1. I haven't heard about PS3s overheating (yet) but I wouldn't be surprised if it was true as Sony recently had a batch of laptop batteries overheat and catch fire which they had to call back.

2. Both the 20 and 60 Gig versions of the PS3 have built-in wired Ethernet ports (RJ45) which you can connect to a wired Router. The 60 Gig version also comes with Wireless networking capabilities and thus can connect wirelessly to a wireless Router.

I believe that Online Gaming will work in the same way as it does for the PS2. You have a slim PS2 don't you? You need to firstly register your console with Sony first, then they'll send you an Online Access Disc (which you need to configure your Internet Connection on your PS2) and then put it into your PS2, enter your network access code (which should be with your instruction manual somewhere), choose a username, choose the settings that are required for your connection (check with your ISP if in doubt) and then these settings are automatically saved to your Memory Card. Whenever you want to go online in a game, just go to the online menu in your game and your PS2 should automatically connect (as it has the Internet Connection settings already saved on the Memory Card).

3. The PS3 can be used on a normal TV. As far as I know, you can change the screen resolution settings in the PS3 control panel (depending on the type of TV you have connected to it).

4. The Boomerang controller was just a prototype - they've since been dropped in favour of the 'old-skool' Playstation controller. The Vibration function has been removed and replaced with the SixAxis feature. Also note that the controller is no longer called the DualShock.

5. Yes, you can use the built-in HDD for inputting MP3s and streaming video. You can also use the PS3 drive to play DVD Video and BD Video (Blu-Ray) titles.

6. About £50. I'm guessing that game prices will drop to £45 a year or so after the release of the PS3.

7. I've heard about Resistance: Fall of Man but have no idea what the game is about so I won't be able to give any kind of informed opinion about it.

8. No.

The PS3 is not over-priced. It's expensive I'll give you that but it is NOT over-priced.

Overpriced? You've gotta be kidding me. Samsung's very first Blu-Ray Player costs £999. The PS3 will probably cost £400 plus the PS1/PS2/PS3 game playability, the Blu-Ray Video Player and the other multimedia features so it is by no means overpriced but very expensive for the average user.

Heh, you sound just like a Sony representative, Kaz Hirai's friend? :) May I ask, do you have a PS3?

I heard about these ethernet cables and whatnot, so you mean I just plug in my internet cable at the back of the PS3 and voila, le internet? Although I'm getting the 60gb, is there a difference in connecting to the internet?

Also heard you can watch YouTube vids with your PS3 (via Internet ofcourse), that's some shit.

About online gaming, I shall you ask more when/if I get the console. Believe it or not, I never tried it. I want to start 'pwning', especially when PES7 comes out. :)

Read through many reviews and all that, PS3 seems to be really nice. Although to get the best out of it, a HDTV is recommended which I'll try to save with my own money to get one. But they're damn expensive. Cheapest I've looked at was $900.

About the over-priced issue, I guess you are right, I probably just read some jack-asses' opinion on different forums about the PS3. XBOX 'fanboys'. I guarantee going through a PS3 vs. 360 page, you will encounter that term.

Too bad the units ship with only one controller, so I definitely I have to buy an extra one for multiplayer rumble.

The motion sensors are a cool add-on. Not mentioning that a simple wave of your hand over the 'On' button and it turns on by itself.

Two more questions my dear Ko_nami friend, does the bluetooth remote come with the 60gb version? Or are they sold as separate devices? And.. since it's USB ported, I believe I can connect and store my iPod songs into the PS3, non?

What technology makes do you these days, typing their initials the way they are (ex. iPod, k800i, SIXAXIS)

Take a look at this (maybe the game I will purchase afterall) Motorstorm. Worth the watch. Breathtaking stuff. :w00t

For me I wont be buying the PS3 when its released in March for many reasons.

1. IMO its overpriced like hell!
2. You could do repetitions with it to increase your muscle size! its so big and heavy looking
3. Theres not really any great games that are being released with it
4. the first batch of consoles released always have bugs etc.

Im gonna invest in a XBOX 360 next week because thats already got numerous good games for it plus its getting GTA4 at the same time as PS3:D If Im ever getting the PS3 I'll wait til next Christmas when Ive heard different reviews of it etc.

I'm not a Sony representative. In fact, I would never work for a multi-national organisation like Sony. I have my principles thank you very much. I know I buy their products and am a big fan of the Playstation series but I still have my boundaries.

I've been having a close look at the PS3 and the impact it will have on Sony and the gaming industry. Apparently, according to market analysts, Sony will be making a loss on the PS3 - even with the RRP set at £400.

This is due to the brand spanking new technology built into the console. Have you had a look in PC World for PC Blu-Ray drives? The cheapest in the UK costs £579.99. :shocking: And like I mentioned in my earlier post, the very first stand alone Blu-Ray Player costs £999. Experts are saying that Sony will need to halve the RRP and fast if they want any hope of making a profit on the PS3.

In regards to your questions, yes it's as simple as connecting your PS3 to an Ethernet cable and connecting that cable to your Router. And yes, it is possible to view webpages (such as Youtube.com) on a PS3 what with it's built-in web browser.

The bluetooth remote is an optional extra for both the 20 and 60 gig versions which can be bought seperately. I guess you don't really need one as the controller is now wireless and can basically be used as a hand-shaped Remote Control for your movies. But if you prefer the traditional shaped remote control, then go for it. ;)

And yes, it is possible to store your Ipod MP3s onto the PS3's Hard Drive. They can be transferred from the PS3's Hard Drive to another PC via the USB or the Flash Cards and then to your Ipod. I'm still not sure if MP3s can be transferred directly onto an Ipod from the PS3 Hard Drive.

To some extent, I gotta agree with Gun_Runner. I won't be getting a PS3 for a while. Not only because of the reason that it is way out of my price range at the moment, but also because launch model consoles are known to be buggy.

If I'm going to be forking out a lot of money for a product (and that goes for any product), I wanna be absolutely sure that it works and will continue to work for many years to come.

i dont understand the blue ray- hd dvd player thing, yer its great to have it as an extra but the whole point of gaming console is for games!
in about 20 years a console will be a dishwasher, toaster etc lol

and if sony did use blue ray discs to stop piracy well there bloody daft pirates are more clever then people who work at sony thell find a way to copy them in time. pirates will always win!

the ps3 looks amazing, and in time everyone will have one someday but sony are gettin daft wouldnt suprise me if in 5 years they scrap the ps3 with all the extras and just bring out a stand alone games console for the same price as the 360. one big mistake sonys made is marketing the ps3 for ages 20+ most of sonys income was from the younger generations, what kids gonna be bothered about blue ray and what parents gonna buy there kid a games console for £500+

also most people are saying there waiting a while to get a ps3? by the time we get one sony will be banckrupt cos of all the bloody money they've lost lolol

That's one reason plus the fact that Sony want a headstart in the next generation video format war i.e. HD-DVD Vs Blu-Ray.

The plan with the PS3 was to get the Blu-Ray players in people's homes so that the hardware is accessible and hope that this can persuade people to switch from the DVD format. They're only going down this road because of the popularity of the PS2 as a DVD Player.

They're hoping that they could do the same for the PS3, which I can understand.

I suppose you're right there. ;) The pirates and hackers will always find ways of making copies and modding the consoles. I've already heard that some Japanese hackers have already found a way of backing up Blu-Ray disc PS3 games. It's now just a matter of finding a method of booting them up.

You're wrong about the age ranges though. Most computer game fans are aged between 16 and 24. Which explains why the console has so many multimedia features because let's face it, most people in this age group have Ipods (or personal MP3 players) and have movie and internet interests aswell.

And how many kids do you know who have a PS2? I don't know anyone younger than 13 who has a PS2. Because usually, the young kids (younger than 12 for example) usually go for the kiddie type games which is what Nintendo are traditionally known for. And by kiddie type games, I'm talking about platform games such as classic Mario, Sonic and later on Crash Bandicoot. But how many of these types of games sell nowadays? Exactly, they don't.

The games that do sell nowadays are games like Metal Gear Solid and Grand Theft Auto and in case you haven't noticed, these games have age limits on them - they're either 15 or 18+. It doesn't take a genius to work out what type of market buys these sort of games.

And in regards to Sony going Bankrupt, I can't see it happening. You know why? Because they'll be a price drop before then. I'll put it into simple terms:

People not buying a product = higher unit price.
People buying a product that's selling well = lower unit price.

A company can make a bigger profit by selling more at a lower price then selling less at a higher price. It's simple demand and supply. So if Sony plan on making a profit on the PS3, they have to drop their asking price.

Be patient, the price drop will come.

the reason for blu-ray is disk space is that blu-ray can hold between 25-200gb of game data, wheras dvds only hold a maximum of 9gb on dual layer. if you want hi-def graphics an sound then the space from blu-ray is essential. just watch in a few years when ps3 is at its peak and the amazing graphics it will be producing, while the xbox 360 is lagging behind because there isnt enough space on standard dvds.

discs are not required to play pirate games, so the blu-ray drive isnt to stop copied games. now that the ps3 has a harddrive the games can be ripped onto there, and played directly from the harddrive, with no need for any disks. this method can also be used for psps and ps2 if you own an external harddrive.

price isnt a problem for me as i have £500+ which ive been saving for a few months, i just need somewhere to start takin pre-orders. and i also have a backup plan, you know those ads you sometimes see on websites saying "click here for a free ps3" (like in my sig), well i signed upto one, all i had to do was sign up for two weeks free trial of dvd rentals and get 13 other people to do the same. ive also done one for an xbox 360 and recieved it from the same company so i know they will give me one, i had to get 10 people for that. so either way, i win.

I've heard about this. I think someone is already in the process of developing pirate software for the PS3 which is going to be entitled 'ISO Loader'.

I don't think I need to explain what this software does. ;)

Im starting to change my views of the PS3...and swithering whether to buy a XBOX 360 then in the Summer maybe sell it and put the money towards a PS3...because Ive always loved the PS2 controllers so thats a plus that its the same shape. Plus stand alone BluRay players cost like £800! and its built in the PS3 for around £500 (you do know from play-asia.com the PS3 is £350!) So I dunno why Sony are overcharging us.

I wish I had the same options as you man. Unfortunately, I don't. I definitely want to get the PS3 because I have been also saving money for it. Also because I can be able to play all my PS2 games (that I still love) on the console. Whereas if I got the 360, all my PS2 games would be worthless, particularly because I have already sold my PS2 to a relative. I'd like to play some of my PS2 games on the PS3 to keep me up while I'm waiting for bigger and better titles to come out for the PS3. It's going to be big money the PS3 and I won't be able to dish out a hefty amount of sum like that again anytime soon, but I believe it will be worth it.

Your idea is a wise one, you don't have to get one, and invest in the 360 and wait for the right to time to purchase the PS3. I am simply getting the PS3 this month because I've been saving so long and now, I have no console to play with, I am bored and I want some F1 Action :)cool:), and the PlayStation series is a tradition.

Ye same with me and the tradition thing, Ive always bought Sony 1st...I even went through about 4 PS2's! how are you managing to get it this month? are you importing?

I was thinking of buying an American/Asian PS3 but then I remembered about the Bluray DVDs having Region codes...

also if you get an import console you have to get one with 240v or itll catch fire when you pug it in, or get a power converter. thats what put me off importing.

and besides youll have a hard job finding any websites that will deliver to europe, so youll have to go to USA or Japan to get one as well. so overall, not worth it, may as well wait, its only 2 months now.

No. Read Gun_Runners post again.

Blu-Ray PS3 games are region-free so it doesn't matter if you own the US, Japanese or European console you will still be able to play PS3 games bought from any region in the world.

What Gun_Runner said about Blu-Ray movies is true. Each PS3 console has it's own region setting. The UK PS3 will be getting Region B/2 which means that you can only play Region B/2 Blu-Ray movies on your PS3. However if you bought a US console, you would only be able to play Region A/1 Blu-Ray movies.

Take a look at this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc

Look under the region codes section to see more about Blu-Ray movie region settings. I hope that clears things up. ;)

I see, if it's just to do with the movies, then that's perfectly fine with me. As I personally don't see anything wrong if it's the movies, I can just stick with DVD. I thought for a moment it was the games, which would be a problem. But it is region free so that's a relief.

It's a bit unfortunate with the movies though, I like to have my PS3 as the complete machine. But I can live with it.

EDIT: Just saw the URL you gave me Konami, I see that B/2 region code also applies in the Middle East. Maybe just maybe I can see what I can do about that (which will then be a bonus because Europe is also B/2). If not, ultimately, it has to be the US for me. That link helped a lot though, thanks. :)

You only need something called a AC Power Cord or something like that to play the PS3 in the UK you dont need a Step-Down Converter...someone on eBay explained why and gave us pictures to show his woprking without a step-down converter.

Yes, I heard of that before, it's what I needed for my PS2 a long time ago. So runner, what do you think so far? What's your plans, get the PS3 now? Or 360 first?
