PS3's galore!

I don't know if it's the same where you live, but where I am there are a number of PS3 boxes all stacked outside Game shops with notices begging for you to buy them. This is surely a bad sign for Sony, the amount that have gone unsold is shocking. I guess a number of people just couldn't forgive the price and broken promises/delays. The fact that PS3 doesn't have any exclusive games of note, except MGS4, it's not a good sign for the future of Sony. What are your thoughts on the apparent mental maze that is Ken Kutaragi's mind? What's he playing at? How could he improve things? Any of those views and others will be most welcome. :)

I think the biggest reason why they're going unsold is the price. If it was the same price as the Wii, then you'd see them flying off the shelves.

I also believe that a lot of people don't wanna buy a PS3 at the moment because they're happy with their PS2. And who can blame them.

The Kutaragi thing doesn't surprise me either. My guess is that he left Sony in the same manner that David Dein left Arsenal.

also the fact that they ship more then people expected (1/4 more then x-box and double Wii's)

It really does make me smile reading about this. I am a Sony Fan, and own a PS3. Its by far the best console out (having extensivly playing all three next gen consoles) and is def only gonna get better. But because, for a change there are actually enough Playstation 3s to go round people thing sony have done badly! I wouldn't moan, coz if there were none there would be moans aswell!

See fans of Sony are obviously going to say its the best, but in extensive tests carried out in games testing labs Xbox 360 beat PS3 in more comparision tests, such as Graphics. The reason for this is due to HDMI not being backwards compatible and the graphics of PS3 looking poor on a normal tv. Also Xbox 360 won when it came to games, they have exclusives that PS3 will never have, whereas PS3 doesn't have any exclusives right now except Motorstorm, and that isnt up there with Gears, Lost Planet, Crackdown, PGR, Forza, Dead Rising. Have to look at it with objective eyes, Xbox 360 is the only true console out of the two of them, the PS3 is more of a compacted PC and I have a decent enough PC for that. PS3 and Xbox360 are both going to be left in awe of the PC this year anyway, with the release of Crysis, best looking game I've seen.

First of all, on release Sony had 7 games that were exclusive to PS3, incluidng Resitance Fall Of Man (Which in my personal opionion) is one of the best games on the market. Again it is down to personal opinion, but look at the facts. 2 days after PS3 launched, Microsoft announced they would be releasing a modern version of the 360 with a larger hard drive to "compete with other consoles on the market". The first natch of 360 games offered nothing really memorable. It was only the second wave of games which started to look good. And even then there were some noteable problems. Now, its comparing a system that has already gone through the trial and error stage. The first wave of PS1 and PS2 games were nothing memorable, inclduing ISS! Also, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Gran Turismo 5 are all games that may eventually come ouit for other consoles, but are originally just for PS3.
My second point is regarding the price of the console. If you go out 10 nights a month, and spend approximatly £20 a night (which i know is a cheap night for alot of people) you can have bought the PS3 in 2 months. Which is an investment. Take of it being used as a PC is not correct. My PC is used to do work on, and browse the Net, my PS3 is used for games, playing against people, listening to music and watching DVDs. Again, because Sony have added some optional features such as an Internet Browser and USB Keyboard/Mouse compatability, its trying to be something its not!
As i have said i have am a PS fan. I owned the PS1 and PS2 and have a PSP aswell. But i was very tempted to purchase an 360 at Christmas, but having played for many hours on my mates one (which he has now sold) i decided they were not that great. And from my opinion (which again, is all it is, an opinion) PS3 will outlast X Box the same way sony have seen off the Saturn, N64, X Box Oringinal, Gamecube and Wii.

That's the basic gist of what I used my PS2 for - it gets used mostly for playing games and DVDs. My PC is used mainly for work but also for some multimedia stuff. Anyone who says that game consoles shouldn't be used for anything but playing games is clearly a clueless idiot.

Gotta agree there. We just gotta wait for the second generation of PS3 games to come out. Then we'll see the 360's true colours. ;)

The 360's true colours being more amazing games on the way, Mass Effect, Bio Shock, PGR4, Forza 2, lets not forget Halo 3, that alone will sell more than any Sony game, love it or not. Resistance aint too bad for weapons and enemies, but it's too grounded. Don't feel enough freedom when playing it. Plus textures in parts of the environment could be a hundred times better. As most games insiders say, its not bad but not in Gears of Wars league. Looking at it from a non fanboy point of view, it has to be said all of the next gen consoles offer something good to gamers. It really is a good time to be a gamer, I've never played a game that i've enjoyed as much as Crackdown or caused as much carnage as I did in Flatout 2, I love it :)

I really couldn't care about the whole console war, but Resistance is very generic if you've played other war games such as Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, Brothers in Arms etc.

There's no such thing as a better console( well of course technically there is), it's only what you prefer when it comes to games and in that area, most games come out on both platforms. Obviously what controller you prefer is important too.

would anyone not go out and socialise for 2 months to get a games console!!!!! ima stick with my xbox as a casual gamer the price is right and the games are good.il miss mgs4 but il get over it. also i can bet 5years or so down the line money grabbing sonys consoles will start faulting, coincidently as they bring a slimmer version of the console out. happened with my ps1,it broke and 2 months later the psone was released.my ps2 started only reading certain games and making awful noises, low and behold the pstwo slimline was released. never had an xbox b4 but very happy with it. shame about the massive game draught were in,its like 4 months b4 anything worth buying is out.

That's where you're wrong my friend, next couple of months sees the release of Mass Effect(the new game by those guys that made knights of the old republic) and Bioshock. You also have Forza 2 and Project Gotham 4 to look forward too in the coming months ;)

Right....first of all HDMI not being backwards compatable has nothing to do with the ps3 looking poor on normal tv because no one would run a ps3 through a HDMI cable to a normal TV if it didnt have a HDMI port. if this were true Xbox surely would not relese the Xbox 360 Elite with a HDMI port. i for one think that the Graphical Edge that either the 360 or Ps3 has must be soo small that only a Fanboy would use it in a pissing contest like this one.

As far as exclusives go...the only decent ones that each console has are MGS4 and Halo 3. i dont care if xbox has Lost planet...or if sony has resistance. you say its winning Xbox has more exclusives but its just microsoft being restrictive corporate cuntz.

'Xbox is the only true console out of the two of them'...lets look at what makes a 'console' a console.....for me a console would allow for as many mates playing the same system at once....like seven as opposed to four...1-0 Ps3. A console would allow me to play and communicate online with people all over the world and not ask a penny.....2-0 to Ps3. To be honest.

i do however agree with one thing...Crysis will kick ass but me needing to buy a new PC with at least a 3.2 Processor....Top Graphics Card...a Pissing Phisics card the size of the Nitedo Wii....DirectX 10...it will cost me an arm and a leg. Looks class though

Perhaps thare are consoles available because Sony supplied enough of them at the launch. They outsold the other next-gen consoles at on launch weekend because they provided enough _ I know that makes comparing the launches difficult but that's hardly Sony's fault.

Fuck it; the PS3 might be in a shit stabbing state of chaos at the moment, but October 2007 will see a wankload of consoles fly off the shelves purely because of PES 7 and GTA IV.

Everyone knows that both these games were born and bred on the Playstation brand(I know ISS existed before the PSX, but the PSX was where the Pro series started), and both are best played on a playstation pad. (I tried both on an xbox pad; couldn't get used to it, especially considering the fact i'd been playing both for 8 years and 6 years respectively).

I think quite a lot of people would fall into the same boat as me, where they have been weened on these games with a ps controller, so naturally, the next game would be at home on a ps controller; thusly the PS3.

actually from what i've read sony did not sell as much as the 360 and the wii. But the management said the launch sales does not matter, long term do. and thats exactly right.

i got cash lying around so i got each one of them and i dont care which is better. to many fanboys arguing over this exclusive stuff

my 2 cents....

fact is ps3 games are crap at the moment (the price is ideal 1. because it contains alot of things such as bluray player and 2. just a fact that sony is making a loss meaning 1 console costs more then they sell it at), the 360 is bodgy sometimes it would just fail to work, shuts off by itself and its dam noisy (games are good though) and wii is your all age group budget console.

Cat O' War!!
Problem is not the price, actually the PS3 is a hell of a deal at that price, it costs much LESS than a BlueRay player alone, the real problem with it is you're not spending that kind of money in a thing that doesnt have enough good games yet.

Yeah, the 3D0 and a couple of other consoles were between 600 and 800 quid when released. I'm really starting to hate all this next gen pish now, starting to miss the days of Resi 2 on the Psone, or Mario Kart on N64. Last Gen Rocked!

Crysis will rule yeah, but the price to upgrade your PC for best looks will kill, be worth it though :) Xbox exclusives though... I don't think your giving them enough credit, Gears of War is without doubt one of the best games i've ever played. The new footage of Progect Gotham 4 also... the cars when it rains all have INDIVIDUAL water droplets which run down the hood, windows etc and mesh into one little puddle and run off, now thats impressive, can't wait to see it in action. The reflections and car scraping and damaging barriers leaving a paint trail on them sounds nice too. It's good to see all of these graphical improvements in games but it just makes me worry that all games will become will be graphical displays rather than good playable games. I don't mind playing a game with below average graphics as long as it had great gameplay, Abes Oddysey for instance, one of my faves, wasn't exactly cutting edge, 2D and 3D mixed but only 3D in small areas of the game. I think we all just have to be careful that we don't all get to bogged down in the appearance side of things, it'll turn games into fashion shows :(
