PS3's galore!

Gato

Cat O' War!!
BlueRay's image and sound quality , is far superior than that of HD-DVD,
A BlueRay player is US$1000 at BestBuy right now, that makes the PS3 a hell of a deal for US$600.

racing games are boring, dont mind rally but straight racing like gt or pgr3 are just plain dull to me.
il miss mgs even the series has gone down hill since its release on the ps1 which was awesome, but killzone is mediocre at best. the only thing i can think this "analyst" could be thinking is that they may put a blu ray player as an option like the hd dvd drive where it just plugs into usb,but this would only be to play blu ray movies and have nothing to do with gaming. for me thats the only logical explanation for this "analyst" saying that.

oh and what about RIVALDO for your list of unpunished divers???

He plays in Greece nowadays, out of sight is out of mind. I could put him in but that's about 5 years ago.

i think hd dvds will do better because of name association. everybodys getting a hdtv and i think theyl get a hd dvd player because they will associate with the tv whereas blu ray has no name association with the popular hdtvs. just what i think.

How about BD? Does that sound better?

You have to remember that the CD was followed by the DVD. If you follow that with the BD (Blu-Ray Disc) then I think you'll agree that it makes just as much sense as HD-DVD.

I think that the BD abbreviation implies that the disc can support video applications as well as data applications for backup resources, games etc. Whereas the HD-DVD abbreviation implies that the disc only supports high definition video because we associate the DVD abbreviation with video. I do realise that HD-DVDs can be used for data purposes but I'm just saying what I see from the name.

Another thing that no one has mentioned here is that Blu-Ray drives and media are already available to the public. You can buy a BD-RW drive and BD-R, BD-RE discs from lots of PC retailers at the moment. They're expensive I'll give you that, but they're definitely available.

You can't buy any HD-DVD drives or HD DVD-R, HD DVD-RW discs at the moment.

The lack of HD-DVD drives and media production could end up backfiring on Toshiba and Microsoft.

If HD-DVD drives and media come out after BD drives and media, then naturally it will be more expensive because it's newer technology (although technically inferior to Blu-Ray).

And you have to remember that there are a lot of advanced PC users these days who keep an interest in these sort of things.

How you know that my man? you have a source?

here you go, http://kotaku.com/gaming/putting-the-mar-in-smarthouse/new-ps3-models-hitting-by-2008-duh-257625.php

this site is updated with the latest stuff. bookmark it =)
and...
Sony will either way release a new system to keep up their sales just like the slimline ps2 where it sold alot.

According to Sony sources quoted in Smarthouse, a new PlayStation will be available in less than 18 months.

The console will not be entirely new, say the sources, and will include the same architecture as the PS3 with the exception of a new bay drive and attachment area. The new console however, will include an extensive media center software suite for managing content being streamed to a TV or Hi Fi source

i agree with Ko_nami
BD is widely available now at many retailers where HD its hard to find.

on a random note my 360 died today (ring of death, those red lights)
i hate this thing, always having problems with hardware etc. and microsoft hasn't rectified this problem even with the release of the elite.

well the truth is blue ray is far superior to a hd dvd and the films prove it and the hardware/software proves it plus went into my local games store and i never saw 1 blue ray dvd up on pre owned but i saw about 15 hd dvd's back up for pre owned.

plus it is true alot of designers are heading for 360 why? because it is easier to program but they r having problems because microsoft did a stupid thing and made a 2 consoles one wiv a hard drive one without, plus i believe who ever said 360 won on graphics and stuff its aload of crap due to the fact 360 been out a year longer than ps3 so its had more time to rack up a good list of games but people keep telling me gears of war this and that yes it has the graphics but have you played the game? its the shortest game i've ever played and the ending was crap, a ps3 has ten times the space on its disc than a 360 game disc so straight from the get go it can hold more data, 'm no fan boy but i kno my hardware and software,

yes designers are having a problem with the ps3 not because it bad it because its more detailed, its like when you create a character you have your optionof being basic or detailed that how it seems 360 is a basic setup and the ps3 is hard but sony have always made it that way to get the best out of there system.

360 is good i admit i do like some of the games but soon enough they have to start thinking of ways of making more space on the discs because sony have 10times as much as there so there games r gonna be bigger, plus i believe pro evo was ment for one console and tht was sony's and now with the extra space they can do what they've always wanted to do.

The thing about graphics wasn't a load of crap boyo, they carried out a comparison test in the office and 360 won at lighting and shading/textures. I guess Direct X does work better after all ;) It's also due to the fact that designers can only use 3 of the 7 gpu things in the PS3 right now... yes it has larger graphics capacity, but it can't be utilised yet so please wait until it can be before spouting off, thanks.

i dont buy GAMES consoles to watch videos on,although if thats truw you may aswell buy a ps3 instead of a blu ray player.

isnt there a 40gb hd-dvd and arent blu ray 50gb?i might b wrong but i sure thats it,if so its barley 10times.

also i dont think been able to take a throwing using a six axis is all that major, throwings arent a big part of football and are the worst thing on pro evo since you can do next to nothing new with them.

I have both consoles and i find that both have there good points, but graphics wise i think gamespot.com did a test and the xbox 360 came out top but its been out for a while and developers have had the chance to get the best out of it wheras the ps3 is a relatively new console so developers are still trying to see what they can do. The one thing i find with the ps3 is lack of content or care. Microsoft really seem to want this console to be a hit and they constantly putting demos on xbox live etc and xbox live seems to be better but the ps3 u dont pay for online so you cant really complain lol. But i'd say wait for the ps3 till christmas time when theres more games to get because right now theres not alot of options on what to buy....especially no fifa or pro evo games for it???

In theory, I would agree with you. But the fact that the console itself can play movie discs is a very good bonus if you ask me. I mean, I'm still chuffed that my PS2 can play DVDs!

Watching DVDs on my PS2 is so much better than watching a DVD on my PC. And I get to sit somewhere comfortable instead of sitting at the computer chair.

There is a Double Layer BD (50 Gb) and a Double Layer HD-DVD (30 Gb) currently in production. Toshiba are also developing a Triple Layer HD-DVD which should amount to about 45 Gb on the one disc.

I think Sony will follow suit and they will also release a Triple Layer BD which would amount to a massive 75 Gb on the one disc.

Production costs will be sky-high though. And don't expect the price of Blank Double Layer HD-DVD and BD to reach £1 per disc until at least 10 years from today.

TDK produce discs for both formats and there was a link someone posted last yr with regards TDK testing Blu-Ray discs with a capacity of 200GB. I know it was on the cnet.com network of sites but I am not sure the exact link

cough... what do you mean by care.. microsoft is awful. if they want the console to be a hit they should fix that damn hardware. On the xbox site, many people has had their 360 break down, even the elite.
and they have not done anything. if you haven't got warrenty its 180USD or something. is either delibrate >_> or they just plain suck. some people has gone through 4 consoles!

working at a electronics store, no one buys bluray players.. $1000AUD.. where the ps3 is $1000 itself but its obvious the better choice.

i think with all the free demos on xbox they end up saving you money despite having to pay for live. i was going to waste £40 on ghost recon 2 but downloaded the demo 1st and it sucked so i saved £40.
also the comment about gears of war been good graphically but too short,it certainly is too short but the coop was a hell of a game me n me mate did it on all difficulties it was that good, and in fairness to pivotal thy have rleased free updates to expand on the online at least, and i was told that they want to release loads of add ons for free but microsft are forcing them to charge like with the new map pack which will eventually be free.

it is a good extra ko_nami and i no what you mean about been better off not sitting at the computer chair to watch. i just dont think extras like that are the best way to sell a console, theyd be better mentioning the computing aspects which is why most people will be buying them.

DVD technology is a part of Computing, as is BD and HD-DVD technology.

Personally, I think Microsoft and Sony have every right to market HD movies for games consoles. It will definitely help attract a wider audience.

And let's face it, a wider audience = more sales. More sales = a lower RRP for the console.

Consumer is in a win-win situation if you ask me.

ff13 has gone to 360 though.
Sure they have fair share of exclusives, but they don't matter if the game is crap. I like multiplatform titles anyway.

ff is no longer exclusive as j-we mentions.the only other game that seems like it has a chance of been good is mgs4 but they have gone down hill since its playstation debut. the rest that is there are mainly racing games which suck anyways plus fans have pgr. resisatnce fall of man,i hear this isnt all that good and doesnt stand out as a good groundbreaking game but having not played it i wont comment, but im certain rb6 is better.so after a list of about 40+ games im feeling that 1 is going to be good.

It isn't, it's nothing you haven't seen before in any other generic wargame.

Out of that list of exclusives I would officially like about.... 4 of them at the most, that's it, so... not really all that great on the exclusives front. 360 exclusives I liked very much, Gears of War, Lost Planet, Dead Rising etc all great games with killer gameplay. (Especially Dead Rising, can have so much fun playing that)
