Football star signs on for FIFA's 2006 season

15:14 Wayne Rooney is no stranger to appearing on boxes (well, the television kind anyway), but his recently announced deal with Electronic Arts is set to place him centre forward in a different arena - the videogames market. That's right, the Manchester United striker is now the official face of the latest game in the EA's FIFA franchise, the imaginatively titled FIFA 06.
"I'm a big fan of EA's FIFA series and I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on the final version", says Rooney. "The game is very popular with many other players, especially when we travel together for away matches, and it's a great honour for a young player like myself to be chosen to be featured on the cover of FIFA".


So that's the sales bit taken care of then, but what else is in store for the latest iteration of EA's long-running footie franchise? In an attempt to keep pace with Konami's upcoming Pro Evolution Soccer 5, EA are looking to score a whole host of new features in the back of the net. Alongside an all-new management mode and full online play, armchair athletes can look forward to complete customisation of everything from play styles to the players themselves.

The poor chav has probably never heard of Pro Evolution Soccer... But let's not forget, Thierry was used on the FIFA boxes and he never played it, always a PES man he said! Soon they'll probably end up having to put one of their plastic looking generic players on the front cover cos no players will sign!

He's probably thinking "EA are paying me shitloads just to appear on the front cover of their game, looks like a good deal to me."

I couldn't care less who appears on the front cover of PES/FIFA, it has no bearing on the quality of the game, and i'm going to buy a game solely because of who they have on the front cover.

Some of you need to grow up with regards to your opinions of FIFA.

Sat that the other day and the rain effects look good but how ugly is that cover. PES5 got no competetion from FIFA2006.

PES and FIFA have no-one from ITALY on their cover. So Serie A not as famous as it use to be then.

Im sure he's just saying he plays it to look good,i would be saying that anyways! The rain effect is pretty good but the rest kinda sucks! Funny how it said Fifa are trying to keep up with PES5, shows what the better game is ;)
