i didnt think you could do friendlys online i thought u got ranked for everything

what a random comment.

Yes, you do get ranked for everything. Having said that, if you go onto other servers (French? German?) there are a few friendly lobbies

There aren't any cheap goals. If you're leaving a striker unmarked in the box then uhh... it's not exactly 'cheap' to pass to him and shoot is it? Ever thought of I dunno, marking him? Predictable passes are pretty easy to cut out in the game so I don't understand how people always bitch about these 'cutbacks'.
Edit: I am talking offline though. Online lag makes stuff like this a major pain in the ass :\

As for people picking great teams, IMO it's a lot of fun trying to beat these great teams with lesser ones. Experiment for awhile and find a formation that shuts down the things you are weak against. Try playing like Bolton VS a team like Arsenal, and frustrate the living shit out of them. Don't worry about rankings and other such BS.. go out to have fun and if you win you get a ton of bragging rights :D

As this thread and your post is in the 'online' section i suspect that people are talking about online problems.

Lag is a big factor but it is also the way the game is. Having played pes6 online and being cheated too many times by lag or cutback players who set up with 3 or 4 upfront i have now stopped playing. As i can only control 2 players at a time (with the use of square) if the cutback guy is trying the cutback say 15 times in a game (at the very least) i am bound to slip up once or twice. I now play earlier versions of the game. The generic cutback goal which everyone recognises did not really appear in pes2 or pes3 as for some reason the defenders are well positioned.

I had my first encounter with a lagger last night, he had 3 bars which is why I agreed to play him (even though I saw he always picked Inter) and in the first 75 minutes I was 1-0 up and he had one shot at goal which was a header from the 1 corner he'd got up until that point. After bocking a cutback atttempt that went out fopr a corner he paused the game and low and behold I was now playing a game with the worst lag I've seen in any online PES game. The game would stick and jump, with players suddenly moving 10-15 metres at a time and he ended up equalising with a cut-back in the last minute. the 1st half of extra time was the same and he scored 2 more. I can't remember his name but he was in a group called PES_LEGENDS - he was rubbish, very eary to play against up until the lag. I should really have been a few more goals up so I suppose that was my fault but he was just a twat.

I then had to endure a game where a guy had 2 shots in the whole game and scored noth of them, the proceeded to chop me down at every chance he had - only picking up abou 4 yellow cards for it.

there's a new winning 11 in april i believe, and Jake Small, BOLTON all the way! I've used them loads recently,as much as i prefered PES 5, as i feel it rewarded people who passed the ball better, unlike the ease of dribbling that exists in PES 6, i do like how the 4-5-1 is viable, Ronaldinho and Eto'o step aside, Anelka and Diouf are on their way.

Every game no matter what I chose Newcastle, they aint the best team on the game but I love playing with the team I support and I want a good game of football!!!!

Sooo is it just me that is getting sick to death with playing against either Real, Barcelona, Inter or Chelsea????? I play game after game against players called "Tottenhamrooolz" etc who do not pick their favourite team but pick barcabloodylona then run the length of the pitch with Ronaldinho and score from a stupid angle or 17miles from goal!!!!!

And if thats not bad enough why the hell do you get people who only score by----> through ball to wing---->run inside---->pass to striker whos stood unmarked in the box who slots it home!!!??? Yes its a guaranteed goal but why do do it 8/9 times in 1 match and think your good cos you score???

Am I the only one that plays this game to have a decent game of football and not to play game after game with the best teams scoring the "generic" goals?? Or am I a dieing breed??

Yeah im ranting now cos I had 5 great games in a row against some sound opposition, then I play 4 in a row against people who do the above time and time again!!!

totally agree with you man, i have perfected a few goal methods such like you said, i uses them only when the opponent tries to do that to me, so now my friends never tries to play this way against me...

I never go the big teams, I only ever go Reading, Pompy or Celtic and most of the time i find it easy to match the big teams. I played against a guy the other night who saw me picking Villareal i think it was so he picked PSG or sumone with basically the same stats, thats the players i like. The people who want to have even games so pick a team with similar stats :) I always defend the so called "Generic Goal" Just set ur defence up to Auto-Defence, and have ur defenders making individual runs back the way, man marking also works on occasion. ;)

I found this out last night, I played some french guy and he don the same thing. He had Ronaldinho as a LWF and just ran down the ring, played it accross and a goal, i worked it out after a while and managed to cut out most of them. But he didnt know how to play except the cross in. He only scored one goal from 4 matches from a normal shot. I beat him 2-0 though in one match so I was happy. I got everything right on the cut out

I played a guy last night - a complete waste of time. He played as Barca with 3 CFs, 1 SS, and 2 very wide midflielders pushed up and had 3 CBS with 1 DM infront of them. I lost the game 5-4, he'd had 6 shots at goal, all on target, all cutbacks. Every time he got the ball he tried it and I did block most of them but he had so many players in the box it was impossible to cut out.

It was so boring attacking was easy but the game just followed the same pattern, this guy must sit and play every game like that.

From now on I'm not playing anyone that's used the same team (Barca, Inter etc) for the last 5 games running. I've had some really good games on-line (won and lost) but some idiots remove all the fun out of the game.

What is this guys name? Sounded like the player I was playing last night...

I can't remember his name but it was between 0:00-1:00, he'd only played about 10 games by that point and each goal was accompanied with witty remarks like "What a screamer", "You're just not good enuff"

I wish there was a better way of spotting these Fu(ktards before you play them, like "Played 80 games, 40% as Inter, 30% Barca, 20% Chelsea, 10% Brazil"

There's a French guy I've played each of the last 2 nights called Reze that uses similarly daft (not quite as bad) formation as Chelsea but I beat him both times

I'm about to buy the adapter so I can go online with the ps2 but after reading all the above Im put off. Is it worth it and is there a ranking system. I played on my bros 360 online and it was great no lag and the way xbox online is set up its just fab. If i get the adater for ps2 what am i to expect.

I gotta disagree with a lot of you. Pes is not only about nice gameplay but also about using the right tactics. If I play against my brother and I see I am loosing, I alway's take the time to come up with a good strategy and 9 out of 10 times it works. I may lose the match but still have a oppurtunity to win.

So read the manual on strategy's etc. It's a must

Have you even played the game online? Or read what this post is about?

Some poeple are quite happy to use this one tactic (should say move actually there's nothing tactical about it) for an entire game because it will get them at least one goal or more. It's not as if they are any good and are trying to break your defence down - they're using a glitch in the game. It's a bit like PES 5 wheere if you got 1 on 1 with the goalie you could play a thru ball to another striker for a tap in instead of shooting, it guarantees a goal. I win some and lose some of these games but THEY ARE NO FUN. Some online gmes are really good though so it just emphasises how annoying these crap games are

Of course there will be times where the chance to play the ball square across the box arises and we're not saying you should never do it - just not all the time, every attack, over and over. I bet your brother's not doing that, and he probably uses a formation with some form of midfield at least.

Playing with Adriano feels like cheating. He's fast and strong and most important of all he has a killer shot. I try to avoid picking the obvious teams, but when your opponent takes Inter Milan or Brazil(read: Adriano and Ronaldinho) you don't really have a choice.

Is anybody hear near the top of the rankings while playing with Arsenal? If so could you tell me what formation and tactics you use? I usually can defend and beat the generic Barca/ Brazil attack, but struggle to score against mediocre players who play a 4-4-2 and know how to defend a little. Usually in these games I try to dribble to much with Henry due to a lack of finishing ability for people like Fabregas, Hleb, and Adebayor. So can somebody who wins most of their games with Arsenal tell me your strategy and how to spread the attack?
thx

You have to understand. You are playing against some really hardcore nerds who build their freindships, reputation and lives around these games. I would never attempt to play online because I know what kinds of people are online playing games. It is not fun playing against people who use phenomenal superstar teams and exploits. Nor, is it even fun playing this game with people in general. The most exciting this game gets is in the beginning of each season, playing the CPU, just before the table gets sorted out and you have to start playing rigged games.

If you are looking for a legitamate football match, find a real life friend, talk to him about football, then play. Everyone online THINKS they play class football, but the majority of them either exploit the exploits, or have played this game way too much and know all the gay little moves.

This game is all about individual skill. Passing and teamwork accounts for nothing. It irritates the piss out of me.

Im fired up.
