I haven't been following the world of games very closely lately but I have a £50 gift card for game. Here is a list of games I've narrowed it down to:

Fable 2
Fallout 3
Little Big Planet
Dead Space
Gerars of War 2

Anybody care to form an argument as to why any of the above are so good or bad?

Well I've got both GOW2 and Fallout 3 and they've been worth every penny, really enjoyed them so far. I haven't played any of the others.

man I highly recommend mirror's edge.... just for the reason it's first person, not a shooter... so not more of the same... most shooters bore me, and WW2 certainly bores me to diarrhoea.. literally I shit my pants when I see WW2 bull, so at least I'm washing my pants and not watching that crap...

I've only played Fallout 3 out of those listed, and couldn't get into it.

Haven't played Gears of War 2, but everyone I know who owns it raves about it.

I didn't put Mirrors Edge on my list due to the fact it's wank. I played the Demo and it was tedious.

I hear Fallout is like a futuristic Oblivion. If true then this may be the game for me. I love huge open lands just exploring and RPG'ing.

Yeah Left4Dead was a tadger wank too. Everytime I went off to kill a Zombie my team mates would jump in and steal my glory. Seems like too mush ado.

I'm surprised you haven't got Gears already. Online currently has "issues" though. So maybe best waiting until a patch is released.

You can't go wrong with Fallout though. Even though I haven't touched it in a few days, it's quality.

How dare thee speak ill of L4D. It's quality.

Fable 2
Fallout 3
Little Big Planet
Dead Space
Gerars of War 2

Fable 2 - Deep, yet a little samey. Nice graphics. Locks up too often...
Fallout 3 - Excellent 1st/3rd person RPG lite, a considerable improvement over Oblivion. Avoid PS3 version, Xbox version is much better.
LBP - Probably the most fun I've had on a game. (More than the innane Saints 2)

Haven't played the other 2...

Out of that list I would eliminate Dead Space. Probably wait for that game to come cheap.

I would imagine you would get quite a few hours out of Fallout 3. Unsure about how long Fable II is. I just completed Gears of War 2 a few days ago and it was great but very short. Me and my mate powered through it in 2 gaming sessions on co-op. I am quite intrigued by LittleBigPlanet.

I would probably say Fallout 3.

Dead Space is more rental worthy for the amount of time you'll play it.
Out of the two RPGs I'd say Fallout 3. But both are ideal for single player.
Gears 2 is probably best if you're going to be playing online the most.
LittleBigPlanet is best if you have people to play with (in person), or if you want to be creative.

So choose based on your preferences there.

Very true. Was in tears of laughter trying to get up some rotating wheels at weekend. Doubt it would've been half as funny online...
