If everyone's calling for it then no wonder the bastard was dribbling back and forth in our area. I was calling for him to boot it but stopped calling for the last 3-4 seconds he was dribbling realising that Sweey was calling for it to be played out wide.
An awful night but I reject suggestions we can't play without Barn. It is certainly easier with a big man in attack but in two of the games last night we did everything we could to score a goal and simply couldn't beat the goalkeeper. That included hitting the post, hitting the bar and seeing various rebounds land just out of reach of a team-mate.
I'm still of the opinion that without Barn, we should play with 2 strikers. Joel + Phats seems to work well.
We started off with two (I'm pretty sure it was Joel and Phats) but it wasn't working. From 4-3-1-2
Really wanted to try 4321 with Sweey and Phat playing more as forwards than wingers (more pace through the centre) and having a solid 3 in midfield, but no one else really wanted to.
I remember when I first started, we picked a 4-2-2-2 formation..... worth giving that another shot some time?
Considered it in my head yesterday. Another viable option.
Yeah, I didn't mind going to 3142 in the end, because it was something different.
Just a note, as I didn't see this yesterday, I was pushing for 4-2-3-1 as it suited the players we had online at the time. Trying new things is all well and good but disregarding the 4-2-3-1 because it had become 'predictable' the night before seemed a poor reason. It's the players not the formation who become predictable. Over the last few days, I think we've all been desperate to score and it's become rushed and too direct.
I was also happy to try the 4-3-2-1 but then the 3-1-4-2 came in, it worked well at points last year but I don't think it suits our style of play generally. If we want to try 3 at the back, I'd be interested to try the 3-3-1-3 if it's available in clubs.
