Berry the situation with that final game last night was simply an accident. I'd passed the captaincy on to Mak who then started searching for a game having not seen that you were coming. By the time he did see it, we had already been matched with an opponent. I know it was annoying, just wanted to let you know it was a genuine accident.

As for last night in the main, I personally felt as though Joel, Barn and I suddenly started reading each other extremely well from half-time in the first or second match and that it continued throughout the night. Whether it had anything to do with Bammers giving us space and not crowding us, I don't know. He too belongs in that praise as he was part of the front four and his movement, good or bad, is going to have a direct impact on the rest of us.

Everyone else did extremely well too or we simply wouldn't have achieved those results. Considering we had ten on and were winning well, it says something for how we all performed.

I think the Bammers red was the catalyst for seeing that we need to stop crowding each other if we want to play well. I've been saying this for a while and some people are more guilty of it than others, especially those who operate in AM positions now and then. If we spread out we'll open up teams and create more. It's not about coming into the middle and trying to score at every opportunity. Nowhere was this more evident than in that game where Bam was sent off, which was extremely tight beforehand. After that we seemed to stop bumping into one another and crowding the forward positions. We also seemed to have more width with Sweey and Joel out wide.

That clearance on the line by Original? was the moment of the night for me. The fact that it led to a goal for us makes it special. Although, EA obviously got pissed off and decided to crash all our PS3s.

I think if someone's playing CAM in the 4231 formation, it's important that they drop a bit lower than the LAM and RAM, and become almost like a third CM, just slightly higher up the pitch. This gives us two advantages 1) it stops the crowding up front, as has already been mentioned - Barn doesn't really need any help in the air and, once he has the ball, diagonal runs from the wingers/runs up the wing are usually gonna be more effective than just a vertical run up the pitch from the CAM. Also 2) means we have more players in the middle and therefore are more solid both defensively, because the opposition is forced out wide, but also in terms of keeping possession. So that's what I tried to do last night. The sending off helped me in a way, because I had to keep watching the match without playing and I saw how useful the extra space was to the attacking players, so when I came back, I tried to keep that.

Last night was a joy. Some very nice play indeed.

BarnDoor - that goal-line clearance from the corner. Still can't get over it

No worries man, hope you all got the win?

And yeah, we all seemed to click. Thought it worked nicely with myself and Original? playing as full-backs, overlapping and getting those crosses in. I'm pretty tired of playing centre-back at the minute, to be honest, and thought I'd give RB a go. Certainly glad I did now, it's a pretty satisfying position to play in, and as Barn says, I can confirm that space is a big factor. Was in acres of space down the right flank on a number of occasions.

Definitely. Certainly earned his wages for this week with that BRILLIANT CLEARANCE.

I agree and the importance here is that the wide players HAVE to make those runs. On a bad night, Joel or I (using us as examples based on last night) might stop making those runs. If that is happening then one of three things has to happen:

-We (the LAM/RAM) change our mindset and go back to making those runs
-We give the position to someone else
-The CAM revises their role

interesting, but I would probably ask for the contrary -

I was going to write after last weekend that I think the CAM should push more forward. Many times one of the two CMs moves forward on the attack as they should, and they end up running into the CAM.

We absolutely never play the ball back once we cross into the depth of the 18 yard box (even if on the wing because it always becomes a cross), so this CAM becomes useless if playing out of the box. One of the CM is there for any long rebounds and usually the second CM is there for any long, long deflections.

I'd strongly disagree with this actually. Even if this were the case, which I disagree with, you can't make it obvious to the opposition.

Sweey's right - stop embarrassing yourself Iron. CAM should lurk on the edge of the box. Doesn't make sense to flood the box. Only splits the cross and most of the time they don't end up finding a target.

embarassing myself? I would contend that in most our losses are because of a lack of goal scoring, something I am not apt at but I sometimes think a change in strategy is at hand after we go many games with only scoring 0-1.

I am not saying the CAM should be rogering the ST up the ass but sometimes I wish that position wouldn't hang back so much.

I guarantee you we'll score more goals with the CAM not trying to play striker. No question about it. We've been struggling of late precisely because that has often been the case.

It's not about flooding the box. It's about attacking with intelligence and speed.

As you may (or may not) have noticed previously, I stopped making some of those runs around and beyond you from goal kicks in recent times because they were often ignored due to the flooding issue. Last night was the opposite - time and again Joel and I were played in and it was refreshing.

It's usually Joel who gets on the end of my flick-ons, but I noticed that you were on the end of quite a few last night. It's good having a couple of options beyond me in those situations.

Yeah, Sweey was anticipating them a lot better than me last night. He was finishing them well too, so all was good.

Hopefully we can push for promotion tonight.

Just so you both know, although I was going to leave when you did I stuck around for one more game and we lost it so the season ended with safety but we're starting anew this evening. Had we left it, we would have needed five points from two games for promotion.

I saw this afternoon on the EA website. Let's just make sure we win the first 3 games tonight. Do that and we put ourselves in a great position to go up.

If we win our first two, we would have gone up so I'd rather we drew the first and then won the next seven.

 (lol smiley still not working)

They'd probably had matched us up with the hardest team on if we were still going for promotion, so don't worry.
