They only do it when they're certain it will go in. But how can they be certain? :hmm:

:hmm: indeed.

Also, there's a line the commentators say.... I swear that everytime they say it, the CPU score straight after. Something about it being a convenient time to score.

About the commentary... I was way for the last week (or at least up to my ears in work) so I didn't play PES (or anything else for that matter). But I've already switched to italian commentary, and I'm now in spanish. While this year's is definitely better, it does get repetitive as the time passes.

I'll try to notice if that also happens in spanish.

Fifa? Really?

Ahhh... I was afraid that might be the case, at least FIFA is challenging to play, and the 85th-90th minute goals don't happen very often, they just piss me off when I've been playing well and deserve the win.

I just want a fair game.

Ah come off it mate! If PES drank 36 Jager bombs it would still function more coherently than Fifa. Fifa is an insult to the beautiful game, actual physics and common sense. You can gift wrap shite, but it's still shite when you unwrap it.

Also, it's not unheard of in football for a team only down one goal to push for an equalizer a few minutes from the end. This ain't Hollywood bra, you don't always get what you deserve. Football is cruel. There's no such thing as a "fair game".

.....with love, of course

'Bra'(??), or do you mean 'brah'? I wouldn't mind being a 'bra' not a bad job! Anyway, PES is far from perfect with it's appalling goalkeeping, it's far too easy to score.

You might not be old enough to remember PES 5 (and 6), that's when PES wasn't an insult to the 'beautiful game.' This year's PES is more like an arcade game with its ridiculous 'ice hockey' scorelines. FIFA 16 is very good game actually, if played with fully-manual settings ('slow' speed), plus the sliders can be altered (if necessary) to change how the AI interacts.

I used to favour PES, but that was before the monstrosity that was PES 2008! Konami still haven't recovered from that debacle.

As for my comment about a 'fair game', I'm referring to when the CPU sometimes goes into 'juggernaut mode' right near the end of a match, scoring a scripted goal from a corner etc. That happens in both FIFA and PES. I'm not a fan of scripted goals that happen right near the end of a match, call me crazy!

The lower difficulties are ridiculously easy. I might lower the passing assist down a level but keep the shooting fully manual, see how that pans out.

I found PES easy (because of the flaws in the game), even with fully-manual passing and shooting- it's the poor goalkeeping that spoils the game.

Hahahaha! "brah" was indeed what I meant. I agree with you there, the keepers are woeful!.. at both ends

Old enough to remember pes5!? I'll take that as a compliment. I go back as far as ISS on the Super Nintendo in 1995 (a console which I didn't like as I was a staunch "Mega-Drive man" until ISS was released and I completely jumped ship). -So I'm well aware of the glory years of PES5 and 6 (and I'd throw PES3 in there too as that, despite it's flaws was a thoroughly satisfying game to play.. mate o' mine still has it and we pop it on the odd time for the craic!) I've played Fifa 16. I Honestly don't see any difference with it to any other Fifa. The physics and motions are just horrible on the eye, players float around and gravitate to the ball. The movement is just horrendous. It will always play like a drunk version of PES imo. Even with PES16's flaws (and I agree with you on those), it would still be a huge step down to pop a Fifa disk in my console and pretend I'm getting a good football simulation experience!

I used to favour PES, but that was before the monstrosity that was PES 2008! Konami still haven't recovered from that debacle.

PES on the PS3 (and last gen consoles) was a complete failure. With the exception of PES2013 of course. The games were absolutely hideous and played like a "transition year" that lasted for several years. I think it was this period for me, that Fifa gained a lotta ground in terms of gameplay and players - For example pretty much everybody I know (including myself for a very brief time and to be social :p) jumped ship to Fifa. Maybe it was something to do with Seabass? Didn't he leave PES around this time?.. I think.. And I read something at the time about a number of PES background team moving to EA... again unsure how solid that info is / was ....

Nah, I was takin' the piss outtta ye with that comment, you totally bit too!  I agree with ya on the scripting. I've had conversations about it in previous posts. Defo happens in both games and at times there is jack shit you can do about it! I was on a mammoth run of wins in my ML last night and my table top rivals, -Villa just turned into Barcelona meets the Globetrotters meets the Star Trek team from Striker 96! (Remember that?). My top players Suarez and L.Insigne, Grenier, Cerci just turned into schoolboys, who couldn't control the ball, win a 50/50 or score a 1 on 1! Joypads have been smashed for lesser frustrations... Not PS4 ones tho as they cost a bleedin fortune!

I'm hoping the next update fix the keepers in fairness. I really am hoping. They (Konami illuminate) are well aware of the issue at this point.

SportGameFan :-

If you watch football matches, the scripting you are referring to is really just the opposition ramping up their attack with extra bodies. Just like Man Utd at Watford last weekend. If that was a match in PES, I can imagine you calling it scripting. Man Utd played like a totally different team during those last 5 minutes. The trick is to have a set up ready to switch to that covers it and enables a counter attack. The game even tells you that the AI has switched formation. If it was scripting, the AI wouldn't bother with the formation switch.

As regards FIFA. Every time I try the demos the defending in EA's game just makes me want to punch the developers. I'll choose the PES keepers over FIFA defenders any day. Plus, I just don't get what you guys are getting with the keepers. I definitely think it is down to how you set up your team. I simply accept that if someone has a one on one with the keeper (especially with all the top notch strikers we are playing with) you'd be pretty annoyed if they didn't score. So set your defenders to always be in the way and to stop an unpressured shot being taken at your goal. My score lines are really representative of football matches. I was manager of Cameroon last season before England came calling. We ended top of the group with 7 wins and one defeat. Just under two goals a game and conceding just under one goal a game. I think it was 14 GF and 6 GA. That sounds like the goal tally in two matches the way some people are talking. LOL

Most matches are tougher when playing the top teams and easier when playing the bottom teams, but there are also some shock results and yes I do occasionally have a few matches where the goals flow, just like happens for a match most weeks in the Premiership. You also know when Hazard is taking on your defence as opposed to Lucas, which is something that is toned down too much in FIFA.

But yeah, PES 6 was awesome and the shock of moving from that to PES 2008 was gut-wrenching. PES 10 was good though, as the introduction of playing style 'cards' really helped to reproduce the individuality of real players. For me it went down hill again from there though until PES 2015, where I'd put the on-pitch gameplay as being slightly better than PES 2016. My gut feeling when playing is that momentum is over emphasized at the moment. The problem is that when I then watch a real match, I see that happening on the pitch. So is the real frustration more that it makes our players harder to control? I'd also put the difficulty back to being harder on the lower difficulty levels. Top Player is way too easy to the point where I was coasting and if I needed a goal I could just apply pressure until I equalised.

Is it scripting when the commentator says it'll be a good time to score a goal, and the CPU score 20s later?

Heh, I shall be looking out for that. I'm going to guess that the commentary is triggered by the same code as the AI deciding to go for all out attack to get an equaliser/winner.

I'll have to take note the next time I hear it.

Annnnnnnnnnnyway, I don't want this to turn into another thread about scripting, so here is a brief update on my ML progress.

Ziyech has joined Inter, no doubt for a lower fee than what they expected me to pay. I forgot to check exactly how much, but if it is a lower fee I'll be pissed off. I struggled to sign anyone of note (other than Ceballos as previously mentioned) in the January transfer window. I needed a cheap-ish backup left back, so I signed this guy, for about £1.5m:

http://www.pesmaster.com/a-marin/pes-2016/player/104497/

Seems to develop to about mid 70s, which isn't bad for the time being. Had a good debut performance at least! Widmer is also on a bit of a "streak", has gone from 79 -83OVR. Why is it that some streaks seem to go for a few weeks, and some end after 1 match?

Never happened to me, all of the glowing arrows last at least 4/5 games.

Bernat is usually a cheap player to get (Pep likes him but in the game he's lacking comparing to Alaba, etc) in the early stages, have a try. And if you need a #8 that controls everything Victor Camarasa, from Levante, is a great option. I already have Darder but if you can't afford him go with Victor.

Bernat is smashing btw! He's my go-to left back. Great on the ball with close control, really good going forward too.

Do u guys play with assisted settings or manual?. Assisted feels like cheatin the game tbh

Dunno. All too often Assisted passing is a right pain in the butt. The number of times the AI decides you don't want to make the obvious pass that you have aimed for with the L thumbstick is really annoying. Also, in some past versions of PES tapping X to pass the ball into the goal was the best way to guarantee scoring when you have an open goal. Try that now and the Assisted pass will clear the ball a mile in completely the opposite direction. Even a quick tap will see the ball launched clear far harder than a defender hitting [] to actually clear it ever achieves.

I have him and Gayà for the left. Gayà stats are ridiculously badly made (88 Short Passing, and 66 Long Passing?), and it shows. Bernat is more realistic, a tad slower but much better positional awareness and strength (his Balance seems way higher than his stats show). But his biggest weapon vs Gayà is the aerial ability: 3 cm taller, 15 more in Jumping, and similar Heading. And I like my full backs to contribute in the aerial department

I was finding ML too easy so i starting a new one with Boavista on superstar. Had to play Benfica and Porto in the first two games. Lost 6-1 and 4-1. This should be fun.

Maybe so but on Manual its really hard. I struggle to keep possession & give it straight back to them. Going fully manual on Superstar can be quite frustrating.

Edit: After some more time with manual I've gotta say it really is the way to go. Its very satisfying when u pull off a neat little move or a perfectly weighted pass. I was ready to give up on it in frustration but eventually u do get comfortable with the power & direction of the pass.

Thanks for the update. Roughly how many matches did it take before you broke through the frustration? I think I might try it at some point, but only for passing if I do.

Well I re-started my ML after a few games getting hammered so i'd say a good few. Trust me, u eventually acclimatize to it & when u do its liberating. U learn how to really manage the weight of the power bar & its desired direction. I got my 1st manual win against Villa (1-0) & I enjoyed a lot of the ball.

If u want a rewarding ML experience I highly suggest switching to manual passin/manual shooting. With assistance u can just press square & its in the back of the net. Thats not satisying at all to me.

Well.... yet again in a match against Burnley, Zach Clough is injured for 10 weeks (it was 12 last time). I like that Konami have tried to make derby matches more intense, but in usual Konami style they've taken it too far. The CPU just tried to kick lumps out of you, it's ridiculous.
