The PS3 is very mediocre so far to be honest. I just go back to my 360. I got, NHL 2K7, Tony Hawks Project 8 and Resistance. The overheats and occasional crashes are frustrating. The launch games are nothing at all special, but i'm sure they'll get better over the course of the year. Overall very empty, due to all the promises Sony made but havent really delivered on.

You're talking about the games, right?

Have you actually tried using all the other features yet? Such as the Blu-Ray Video player, the DVD Player, the extra MultiMedia features such as the playback of WAV, MP3, AVI & MPG files?

There's no point in commenting about the games when the games are going to be mediocre because after all; they are launch titles.

It would be nice to read some comments about all the other things one can do with a PS3. ;)

EDIT: Also, what are the Online features like? I'm talking specifically about the browser here.

Mines is a Pal model, pre release version, I work in the games industry so i got contacts for early stuff :) Oh and overall i think both 360 and PS3 have their good points, but 360 will in fact be a much more immersive experience.

I got my PS3 on import, £380 quid for the 60gb model with 3 games and 2 controllers, now thats a bargain ;)

What happened? I thought you were dead against Sony's PS3! £380 is a good price, but still a bit of a gamble for someone who's had such a woefull experience with Sony's CS Dept and Playstaion in general.

Yeah i no, but i thot i'd get it for comparison purposes, specifically online play. Resistance supports 40 player matches which is fairly impressive only issue i have is the fact that a headset isn't standard with the PS3 which is a bit annoying when ya want to communicate. The fact that the online mode is free though is a very big plus. All in All not a bad experience, but still to see the real killer games, Resisitance isnt bad to play but feels just too much on RAILS to really be enjoyable, the plot never really grips you because you never really get huge details about it, just brief pieces of info here and there. The enemies and the weapons are probably the most impressive thing about it, very creative. I know i am against Sony, but that was only for what they did to the company Lik-sang which i used to import many products. If not i would have imported a PS3 from there just to get a proper play test before the UK release. Only other issues i have with the PS3 are the overheats, it's not as reliable as the 360, Microsoft certainly have the experience when it comes to cooler units lol

Now you've had a play with it, do you still feel that it is worth the £425 asking price come March? I've got one pre-ordered, but to be honest, I am now in two minds as to whether it it worth it. The only launch games I'm interested in are Virtua Tennis 3, Virtua Fighter 5 & maybe Motorstorm.

I don't feel it is worth that price for games alone as most won't be exclusives and will just be multi format ports. It's costing extra due to the Blu Ray player, which stand alone, cost about a grand. Resisitance isnt too bad, but isnt adventurous enough, its too path orientated, no real surprise or freedom.

I own the PS3 and i can say its the best console ever!
Why? bcus it has endless possibilities..

if u buy a 360, the first week u will look and try all sorts of things with it.
But with the ps3, you cant do that in a week, more like a year!

I played Resistance, but it isnt a really good game, but wth its a launchtitle.

With bluray discs upto 200GB u can imagine how games will look like...
I think in a few years, there will be 100-150 percent more teams in Pes bcus of the much amount of storage.

If u are a xbox fanboy, u will always look with criticism to the ps3..
But if u study a bit, ull see that sony if faaaar more better than microsoft.

Since the 360 came out, it never was #1 in the sales, it had to let PS2 first always! if their next-gen cant beat a current gen..What will happen with the PS3?

And with PNP and the HDD, u might even get add-ons for PES.
Like after a year, when new players are in new teams, u can just click on update, and u have all the teams good again.

Or have MODS with chants stadiums etc.. with one click on your SIXAXIS/Usb-Mouse in ur HDD so u can have the real excitement.

If u want to buy a 360, fine, but u will notice that in a year or three that the ps3 graphics will get better and better, but then the 360 is at its highest.

*Sniff* *sniff* what's that smell.... FANBOY ALERT!!! Sorry to take such an incredulous tone, but i just can't take it when people say they have something then take an absolutely biased(PS Magazine like) View on the product. It sounds like you are in fact quoting from internet sources etc. I DO Own the console, and I DO give it my fair opinion and sometimes harsh scrutiny. I also own a 360, and a WII, Ps2, Dreamcast, PS1, N64, Nes, Snes, Megadrive, Master System, Commodore 64, Spectrum 128k, Game Gear, Game Boy, PSP.... and on and on. So.. that would make me a fanboy for one in particular then? ;) I am a gamer, a gaming fan and as such I greet each console with quiet optimism. However, when i et the chance to play them, I make sure to test each feature thouroughly and justly, giving a fair and unbiased judgement on each. As for the 360 taking you a week and the PS3 taking you a year to explore.. please ellaborate further on these features as I have had a fun time exploring myself and its not taking me that long, as for little features here and there... i'm sure each console has little touches that none of us have noticed yet. The morale of this post... Approach a console without the fanboy attitude, don't let your personal feelings cloud your true gaming knowledge, and for the love of god, don't begin a post with "I own the PS3 and i can say its the best console ever!
Why? bcus it has endless possibilities.." Nothing is endless my friend, not even the universe, so think about that. One final thought, why not try to take a completely objective view? If that's your approach to writing a review or report on a product then you have much to learn. ;)

I'm not so sure matey ... probably 50/50 ... the launch titles that I would like to play are really only Virtua Tennis 3, Virtua Fighter 5 and Motorstorm. I know VT3 & VF5 will be coming to the 360, so really I'll only wanna get Motorstorm. As for the furture, the only exclusives i'd like to play would be Devil May Cry 4 and MGS4, so really I am considering whther the PS3 is really worth it all. I have my 360 and just love it and like some daft comments made by some posters, would NEVER trade it for anything.

Also I have no interest in entering the HD-DVD / Blue-Ray DVD war, as at the moment there is no clear indication as to which format will triumph, so again if I were to buy a PS3, then really on my part, Blue-Ray does not come into it al all.

Anyway, just got an email form Play.com, saying that they will be fulfilling my PS3 order for 23rd March - now it's just a matter of shall I keep it or cancel the order.

How can you say that the person you quoted in your msg is a fanboy. Just becoz the are talking about the ps3 and praising it doesn't mean that they don't have ne other consoles. You may have so many consoles and other computers but that doesn't mean you have the right to attack other people and call them fanboys. I have always had the opinion that the xbox and x360 won't be as good as the ps2/ps3 but that doesn't mean that I won't play on an xbox or x360. Microsoft are new to the console market and given time will probably take the console market away from sony but that all depends on decisions made by both companies. I have never been a fan of nintendo but I am looking into buying the wii.
Microsoft took the decision to release the x360 too early in my opinion just so that they could get a headstart over sony, in my opinion that was a bad decision as with extra research and development i believe that they could of added the HD-DVD and the HDMI and other changes they want to make and introduce soon into this current version of the xbox and not make another console so soon after the x360. This could be there downfall as they could lose some of the market that they currently have over sony and nintendo.

Also for others that say that the PS3 is expensive, then do this maths. X360 Premium costs between £280 and £300 depending on where you go. Add on the HD-DVD attachment you are looking at £410-£430. PS3 including Blu-ray from the start costs £425. Need i say more

I AM NOT A FANBOY, i believe that everyone has a right to say what they want and that no one should attack anyone just because of the opinions and views that they have.

Where did i apparently "attack" him? The fact that his statements were blatantly biased towards one particular point of view to such a manor that i found his post just a little bit TOO Sony for my liking. Some of the statements were in fact so eggregious that i felt the need to point out the unbiased and completely objective view of many people. I don't attack with words my friend, i merely take a logical and objective view towards things because I realise that nothing is the be all and end all, if i thought that i'd be on here going on and on about my top end PC which is what i spend most of my time on anyway. ;)

I agree. I think that Microsoft are going to struggle to bring out a successful console after the Xbox 360.

I mean, the obvious way to go for the next Xbox console is to add the built-in HD-DVD drive and possibly some extra I/O connectivity. Essentially, the PS3 will already have these features included (swap built-in HD-DVD drive with a built-in Blu-Ray drive).

At the moment, I can't see another disc format coming out that will supersede HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. Maybe Microsoft should consider adding a HD-DVD/Blu-Ray combo drive in their third Xbox console? But then again, the production costs would probably go through the roof plus the fact that Microsoft just will not support a Sony manufactured disc format (due to their fierce rivalry).

Like I said, I can only see the next Xbox coming on a par with the PS3 in terms of the disc formats and I/O connectivity it supports. Obviously, the next Xbox console will be more powerful graphically than the PS3 and will have much faster processors because after all, it will include the latest technology. But in terms of compatability with current hardware and disc formats, it will most likely be on a par with the PS3. I know most people will think that I'm talking out of my arse, feel free to prove me wrong.

But as we all know, when a new console comes out, it usually costs at least £300. This will still happen irregardless of the prices of HD-DVD drives and media dropping in price over the next few years. But by the time the next Xbox console does come out, the PS3 will probably cost half the price it does right now. And when you look at how much PC and stand-alone Blu-Ray drives cost at the moment (twice as much as a PS3), the PS3 will become the more attractive proposition to your average gamer... assuming that stand-alone Blu-Ray players and drives still cost twice as much as a PS3 a few years from now.

In regards to the current prices of the Xbox 360 and the PS3, there's one thing you have to remember - most gamers are either too lazy or too dumb to do their math. Only a handful of people will understand what I'm talking about. ;)

ps3 lacks launch titles all together, but i would love too be able too play mgs!!although tbh the series does seem to have gone in a spiral.mgs was awesome, the best, sons of liberty was boring and snake eater was new but mgs for ps1 is the only one i completed over and over.

i think there are too many fanboys, i mean eliasrais you just sound like a ps3 fanboy, not saying you are.fact is people who have invested money in a console arent going too slate there own console unless its really dredful!!but i have had playstations all along,no probs till ps2 and psp but even still i dont think the differences are going too be major, apecially for casual gamers.i like too pick up pes or gow and have an hour or 2.maybe if your going too play hours on end thered be a different debate.

CRISSGRAN what you said about ps's overheating, xboxs do too, well when you get stupid game modes and stupid people playing them game modes,im talking bout survival in dead rising, ppl complain there xbox is fucked, well dont leave it on for 3 fucking days,i dont know any hardware that should be left on that long!!!!

Didn't the ps2 have hardware problems on release, such as overheat?

I was under the impression most of the launch consoles have this. Thats how i didn't get my ps2 till a year after launch. They were brand new (fixed up) models.

When you mentioned the overheating with the ps3 i thought of the same thing. Launch consoles always have little problems here and there. Its not till a year or so after that they bring out newer models without most of the problems.

So maybe that's how your ps3 is overheating as much as it is!

I've done the exact same thing with the 360!
I just got mine christmas past, a year after launch and its running fine. No overheating and so on!
