The one thing Fifa has going for it on the PS3/X-Box 360 that PES doesn't...

Fluidity. When you dribble and pass on Fifa, it looks and feels authentic, whereas on PES it tends to look and feel robotic and stiff. Shooting is dreadful of course, as it always has been on Fifa, but then it hasn't been so great on PES this year either. PES 2011 was a step in the right direction though, and I'm sure the franchise will rediscover it's old form eventually.

I have both, and have been playing PES 2011 now for a good 3 weeks or so, and the other day, decided to put in FIFA and have a quick game. Wow, the difference after playing PES for 3 weeks was noticeable in the first minute. I don't think i realised how much freedom you actually get on PES. On FIFA, every pass felt controlled by the computer, and its just so hard to change the pace of the game when the passing is so robotic. On PES, you can either play a slow passing game or a quick passing game depending on how much power you apply, on FIFA, every pass feels the same speed wise, and there doesn't feel like there's any fluency there what so ever mate.

Honestly though, give it a go yourselves. You'll soon realise how much freedom and control you have over your player on PES.

I disagree with Fifa being more "fluid" and "authentic". This is the impression it gives because it "moves pretty". The dribbling isn't very good on Fifa, it's too hard to go round a player. The passing is the worst thing. All you need to do is hold L1 and press x... the common tactic used online (even saw someone doing it on PES, I was ashamed of him). You can make Barnet (no offence Barnet fans) play like Barcelona on Fifa!

only ONE thing i want from fifa.freekicks, more curve on the ball like fifa.
i dont know why people think fifa game is now (almost)perfect.reviews give a score9.0-9.5.they work last year on goalkeeper personality and they have most important things fakd up..ball control of a players is so loose(unpredictable)passing is same for every player manual or not.ball physics is too bounce loose.shots are soft.tackling is unpredictable and too easy.MAAN THATS IS GAMEBREAKER.and give so hight score for that game is hilarius.

Fluidity isn't all good. It also means floatiness, and a lack of direct control as far as I'm concerned.

Also, keep in mind that soccer isn't ice hockey, it's not necessarily smooth all the time.

Furthermore, people who suck at PES also tend to play the game in a much clunkier style as well, because they don't use the right trigger to control the ball, they make awekward (not flowing) moves, and as a result the game plays less smoothly. As you get better at the game it smooths out more and more, but in the right ways, not just all smooth for you no matter what you do.

I'd like to see the penalty options you get on fifa - you can choose how you want to strike the ball with your foot (outside of boot, instep, side foot etc)

It does move pretty - there's no doubt about that. I've turned away from PES this year for the first year ever. Both games have their faults but for me, FIFA is a more polished offering. I take exception to your comment regarding the hold L1 and press X tactic. That will absolutely make your players move on and yes, it's a good tactic because ultimately football revolves around pass and move. However, if it's over used then you'll find yourself up against it if you play anyone worth their salt. To say that's all you have to do to be successful is nothing short of nonsense. I do agree with you that it is pretty hard to go past a player but that's true of both games. Both offerings seem hell bent on making passing the only way to play. As we know from real life, many different tactics are used dependent on the personnel available.

The constant one-twos are all you seem to see on Fifa online. I used to play Fifa 10 (aswell as PES), i used to play properly (few one-twos) and win more often than not. I also was very picky with the matches I played. NO 5* teams, NO stupid formations and NO constant one-twos. If i saw someone doing this, I'd leave... because its very frustrating and very unrealistic.
My brother plays Fifa 11, in every game i see him play, the opponent abuses the one-two. They seem to think it's the only way to win. I can say that Fifa 11 will never soil my PS3 hard drive.

I agree it's very hard to play anything other than a passing game, I've seen folk try to do it.... with Barca!! I always wonder if these are the same tactics they use against the AI.

I will admit that i saw PES 2010 through rose tinted glasses, because of my fondness for ML, but this year's has improved sooooo much. Yes there are flaws, but so what.

My ratings:

PES 2010 - 7/10
Fifa 10 - 7/10

PES 2011 - 8.5/10
Fifa 11 - 6/10

As a former PES player I can only say that Fifa kicks it's ass all over the pitch.

Fifa 2011 is what PES 2011 should be!

Fifa has all the right elements of football...PES doesn't.
From the
astonishing animations
Fluid player movement
Increased Difficulty
Improved shooting
spectacular dribbling
and most of all ....flawless online with tons of games modes.

PES has transformed into an arcade game. Outdated graphics, unrealistic ball movement, horrid shooting, painful animations... and most of all dreadful online. Now we have the change cursor problems.

I have been biased over the years against Fifa...but the truth was that i never really played the game. I find this true to many here who make quick stupid judgments on clearly the best footie game ever to touch any console. They just cannot play the game.

Comments like..
Hard to beat defenders ...
Easy one two passing
Hard AI

...makes me believe that those making those statements cannot play any footie game. I was used to running at blazing speeds past defenders too....and shooting rockets at goal from any angle....Pes

Fifa eradicates those stupid things from its games. Passing and shooting is extremely brilliant. The game is the best because great players like myself who know what to look for in a footie game ...find it only on Fifa 11. Best selling footie game again this year.....i wonder why...oh i know ..only idiots who knows nothing about football buy fifa. .....

Total Freedom my arse! PES Sucks!

I can play FIFA11 and enjoy it, for a laugh, because to me FIFA11 is like an idiot being idiotic and perhaps making you laugh from time to time.

On the other hand, I cannot play PES11, because to me PES11 is like an idiot pretending to be a poet... it may fool you once or twice, but at the end of the day, the truth will surface, and you will know a pretentious idiot when you see one.

In a final analysis, both games are very disappointing and outdated, insubstantial in the most important area, there's nothing I have not experienced before: dribbling feels boring and automatic in both games.

I sold PES11, and I'm not buying FIFA11. That's my two cents on PES vs FIFA.

Haha, what a load of rubbish! You're talking about Fifa like its the 2nd coming. It's the best selling football game every year because it is the "everymans" football game. Lots of license, lots of glitz... but little soul. It's the MW2 of the sports genre.
The fact is, you CAN do easy one-two passing, I've SEEN everyone do it online. Fifa gives the illusion of freedom. I'm not saying PES is totally free, non of them are. Before you say anything, I can play PES and Fifa. I think I'm pretty good at both games.
Ok, you're used to running at "blazing speeds" past defenders, that seems to imply that you can only go round defenders with the mega fast players.
Flawless online????
Worst of all, is the majority of the Fifa community seems to be full of foul mouthed children, who like nothing more than to call you a pussy, or to make jokes about your mum... because theyre so original and all.

Fifa has changed very little since Fifa 09... i just don't know why you'd want to pay 30 odd quid a year for a glorified add-on, plus extra for the WC game.

To put it this way.
Everyone who says fifa 11 is the best is clearly lying and not seeing the bigger picture.
Fifa 11 is the wost football game in years.
I have never hated a game after a week, and now I hate it even more. I can't stand it anymore.
It's filled with glitches (I hae honestly never seen a game as SCRIPTED and a itchy as fifa 11) and the scripting is so high that the game became very boring, frustrating, and predictable.
Fifa 10 was far better for all it's faults.
Now, you may remember me saying that fifa 09 and 10 were better than pes and yes they were actually good and I would play them again and still have fun, BUT FIFA 11 is the worst game ever. I guess there's no need to mention the obvious faults in fifa 11 that are game breakers in everyway you try to see them.
Fifa 11 is the MW2 in football titles. I completly agree with this.
But MW2 can be good at times, FIFA 11 is NEVER good against the AI
