"The Reason You Want PES Is Gameplay"

We are delighted to share with you, another Jon Murphy interview.

It's not another JM vidblog, but a video we found on MeriStation TV that sees Jon explain the new features in PES, using the videos posted by Konami, that we've already shown you.

Here are a few stand-out quotes from Jon;

"'Why Pro Evo and not FIFA?' isn't a complicated question for me. I think if all you're interested in, is small technical things that aren't going to make much of a difference to gameplay, you're not going to want PES.

"The reason why you want PES is gameplay. You want the best gameplay that you can have. You want the most enjoyable experience. You want the biggest battle with your friends... and that's what PES will do."

We have more strong, confident words coming out from the PES camp.

On another note, many journalists and PES communities are starting to recieve their preview code copies of PES 2012. However, everything will be embargoed until sometime in August, so you'll have to be patient until you hear the next batch of impressions.

... And as you should have gathered, I think we're very close to confirming that Cristiano Ronaldo will be the new cover star for PES 2012.

Very promising hearing that from John, let's hope he is speaking the truth and that PES has actually solved the former flaws, one thing I did notice is that looking at the gameplay(yes I know it was E3) but the way in which players take their first touch still looks a bit flawed, but oh well can't knock it till you've tried it :)

BELIEVE
Promising, but we all know this has been said every year, and of course it isn't always true. PES 2011 was probably the best PES since PES6, but it was still quite heavily flawed, almost rushed in some circumstances.

So, ultimately, the only thing of worth he has said there to me is that Ronaldo will be the cover star, purely because I like Crissy so it's nice to see him as the face. That's about all I can take seriously from the article.

I have seen the video for the gameplay which i liked it but in my opinion , i think that KONAMI is still using the old direction degrees , not 360 which FIFA has , because turning the players feels like they move in 4 directions , not to a circle direction as 360 dribbling system , hope i`m wrong .

I think the consistent oddities with Konami is they alternate between problems each edition.

Although people grumble about slow players catching fast players on PES2011 this was present in PES4 (I think it was) as well. PES5 scrubbed it, PES2010 went too far with speedy players and we come full circle.

You couldn't win a penalty for love nor money on PES2010 (PES4 was similar, the ref wouldn't award blatant fouls against you) and now you cannot avoid giving them away with legitimate challenges.

Speaking of which.

Slide tackling was fine on PES2010 and is now bollocks on PES2011, mainly the physics being all wrong with the trailing leg. CPU teams still don't get awarded nearly enough yellow or red cards for horrendous tackles.

The feint system on PES2011 meant that players like Arshavin were god-like and constantly dominating teams with those bloody flicks.

If Konami can make their mind up on how to implement pace and trickery without going from one extreme to the other year on year, we'll have a good game on our hands.

Pretty much agree with everything you've said there, Sminkaroo.

I'm fed up of the AI constantly hacking down my players and getting nothing for it.

PES2010 was awful for that, especially in the penalty area. My friend and I were playing a league - I forget who he was playing as - the amount of times he was clearly taken out in the area was ridiculous. Not ONE penalty awarded. One was hiliarious, through on goal, knocks the ball past the keeper who completely takes him out. Nowt. Nada. Zip. My friend just went spastic

Yeah, in 1000+ matches on PES 2010, I've only gotten 9 penalties. countless off the ball challenges in the box.

I think I got awarded about 3 penalties in a year of playing PES2010. It was next to impossible to get one!

I had one penalty in the whole life-span of PES 2010, and due to the new implemented penalty system I also managed to get the ball out of Wembley Stadium.

LOL! out the stadium is pretty impressive

I know this is "the game that cannot be mentioned", but this is everything a penalty shootout needs to be and nothing more. It would be even better with PES graphics coz PES players just look better...

Give me this in PES2012 and you will be rewarded Konami!

How many times does the OPP have to keep banging on about the OPE website/blog?

I'm sure we all know and visit your blog by now, it keeps everything tidy for ease of read. However, the whole "its only on our blog" "visit the blog now" is getting very annoying, or is that just me? By over advertising the site, you will in fact loose just as many people as you gain.

Give it a rest man, we get it, we do use your site. Thank You.

As for all the game play videos and interviews coming out, I try to not be so kid-like "It's going to be the best game ever OMG" at all. I hate FIFA and EA Sports, I've made that quite clear. While I prefer Pro Evo, it is far from the holy grail, some people make out. It still to this day has problems that have always plagued it, half of them though make PES....PES.

Anything out of the mouth from the developer of the game should be taken with a pinch of salt, just as the mainstream reviewers and gaming websites, they're not really going to say "our game is shit, are they?" and the gaming websites/reviewers will do what they are told and paid to say. How on earth has FIFA ever been a 10/10 "perfect" game?

At least Konami are being honest though, I'll give them that, they understand what FIFA has and they dont...and by admitting that and working on areas to make it an overall better product, that is what I like to see. Improvement.

Improvement and change is key for me in a series of games, not like FIFA and EA Sports games in general (I could name them), when its the same game every release year....bar the few cheesy gimmick names. I can see improvement in PES (especially last year) clear enough to me to warrant the purchase.

One of the problems on PES 2011 was not being able to have full control of your player on the dribble like you have on passing. It was un-responsive and you could not really beat players on the dribble, something PES as far as I can remember, always had going for it. It looks like this has been "sorted" in the videos, dare I say it looks more PES5/PES6 esk?

Some of you really do need to wake up and stop being so gullible and naive though, don't fall for the created hype....what if when you buy PES 2012 and you personally don't like the game at all? It really is that simple, take in the valid info and watch the un-bias videos and reviews by all means.

But dont do the child on Christmas eve bullshit.

i dont think Jonny boy would be so cocky about the game and use such strong words if pes actually was still shit this year.

Even if this years pes is gonna have some flaws, im pretty sure im gonna enjoy it and finally have a football game that is worth spending money at

I'd rather remain naively optimistic despite having my hopes regularly dashed by Konami.

Calm yourself, I think most people can judge a promotional video objectively.

I dunno so much matey, some people will buy the game solely based on the video's and hear-say.

I don't really think these people should complain, when they pay for the product, if they don't like it in the end. Yes complain because you spent your money it, of course. But dont complain if it disappointed you, you fell for the oldest trick in the book from the of.

Honestly, for me I really do think Konami are onto something this year, it will have that "shock" factor and we should be intrigued until we play it. I agree. I also agree that people can judge a promotional video objectively, however I would not say "most" people do at all.

There was an old saying and believe it or not today, If you told someone to jump into the canal they would probably do it. Everyone used to laugh that phrase of years ago. "What am I stupid?"

However, the funny irony of it all is, that today's society will believe and do everything they are told.

They Live is a good old film, I recommend that if you have not seen it. Old film.

I've seen it, its a social commentary about subliminal conditioning. I understand your point but that is the nature of marketing and PR, Konami are competing against EA so they need to talk their product up. I look at the new features and I am impressed. But I've been here before. TeamVision .

I agree.

We could go on for ever with a list like that, for FIFA and PES.

Here's a couple:

PES 2011 - "Engineered for Freedom" :willis: "Freedom to defend" :willis: The only thing "free" in PES 2011 was passing IMHO.

FIFA 11 - Pro Passing :willis: Personality+ :willis: Don't get me started on this TOSH!
