Unofficial - How are you doing in Master League?

Though I didn't enjoy the part where you eliminated Benfica, overall nice reading there 2h-Eagle. :p :)

As for the budget/financial problems, seems that if you play ML with the 'Club Management' option set to OFF, the club's board of directors tend to tighten your budget a bit too much, and even further as seasons go by.
So you'll always be forced to release some players every season, sometimes even important players.
It also doesn't allow you to hire new staff.

So try to set it to ON. Of course, I had to start a new ML campaign because of not knowing that. But that's not a big problem, as I now got more experience and will start building and working the team better than before. ;)

Well, in my opinion this aspect has added realism to my game. It would have been ideal if I could also sign the technical staff but still be given the budget limit by the board. I prefer this to choosing how much to spend on the fan club and being informed that I sealed a sponsorship with XCZYMPRON AIRLINES or something like that. ;) But that's just my personal opinion.

I am sorry about Benfica but that's the ML... :(

You got a point there about the realism.
Though it's still annoying and maleficent that year after year the budget for buys and players salaries gets shorter and shorter. Overtime, this can considerably stifle your plans to build a strong and solid team.

On the other hand, the budget can increase as you lead your team to relatively successful campaigns, though it's kinda hard if you play in SUPERSTAR with a no-World Class team like Newcastle. But it does challenge the gamer. Well seen, it's probably a nice feature.

^ As you mention above i had to quit ML too because i could't hire new staff. This got frustrating, and i definetely think it's realistic that a club gets more money and therefore is able to hire some decent coaches/scouts etc :)

From what I understood, the budget decreased every time I dropped in the Club Rankings and increased when I went up. I would say that when you start with a weak team and expect a couple of hard years it may be safer to manage the budget yourself.

I've give Jenkey's patch another go, I like the "Turn off scripting" a nice option and yes the game seems more realistic as my opponents go for it a lot more with more varied attacks

But I have a trouble winning 1 on 1 headers, I'm not expecting to win all of them as my team was started with the default ML team, which has changed a lot since then players avg rating is about 72 ish. When the keeper boots the ball upfield I'll only win about 1 in 10 headers if that, crosses are a nightmare, can't score from them and if my opponent crosses more often than not they'll get a shot away.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but atm if I'm attacking I have to keep the ball on the floor and when defending, it's hope for the best time.

My players aren't all small even my lanky CBs win very few headers.

Default ML team players are weak, to say the least.

It doesn't matter much if the player is tall...
if he has poor positioning and response he'll always be mispositioned or late for the headers.
If he has poor jump and balance he'll loose aerial challenges against more physically apt players.

yeh your probably right. I#ll just have to live with it till my players get better or till i bring in some better.

After promotion though I've won 1 lost 3 but I have played Liverpool and Chelsea, games I'm not expected to win. So it's not too bad a start, as long a I can beat the lower teams at home at least I'll have a chance of staying up.

Lee i'm struggling a lot on headers too. And even if i win, the ball goes straight to the opponent. So i started using other buttons than x button. Now i use O and square to head the ball further away, and also i begin to position my player using R2 button much earlier. Just when they execute a long pass, i hold R2 and search the ball immediately. The sooner i position my player, the better it works.

@ .Lee.

I remember that in all previous versions of the game, whenever I started with the ML default players, during my first couple of seasons I played with almost no long kicks from set pieces. And that was not a choice of style but a necessity as I lost most headers. Also, it was the part of the experience where I mostly used slow passing game in order to make up for the lack of flair and speed and avoid counter attacks.

I assume this is the case this year as well, maybe even more so, since the difference of quality and physical attributes between teams is much more apparent in my opinion.

Back to my quest for glory with the claret and blue! After the disappointment of the ending of the second year, I still had some enthusiasm to carry on. This was due to the fact that I had already arranged the transfers of Diego, Taarabt, Drame and Miguel Veloso. The budget given to me had increased slightly and after the sales of Barton, Delph and Bannan I ended up with cash in the bank.

Candreva and Giroud were now regulars and with them Drame and Diego from the new signings. I also decided to replace Given. I was angry at him because after I asked him to reduce his wage demands for a renewal from 5 mil to 4 he came to speak to me and say that he thought he deserved what he was asking. He accepted for 4.5 mil but elephants never forget! Luckily enough Frey was transfer listed by his club at the time!

The season started with an away game at Anfield Road. Just after 15 minutes, Westermann was sent off for a tackle from behind in the midfield after the cpu "helped" me with player switching. I was certain that I would lose. But anyway I managed to score a goal with a cross from Agbonlahor and a header from Giroud in the first half. In the second half I managed to avoid 4-5 certain goals (kind of like my team PAOK against the Spurs on Wednesday!!) and in the 85th I scored a second with a shot by Nzogbia. 0-2!!! It really was a statement of what there was to come!!

After a couple of cheap draws against medium level teams, the team started a tremendous series of wins (interrupted only be yet another defeat to Man Utd 3-1), the highlights of which were a 3-4 away win at Tottenham and a 0-3 win at Chelsea! I then lost to Arsenal and beat City (Aguero was a sub!!) 1-0. City were also probably going to be my opponents at the SFs of the FA Cup. Bolton were along me the surprise of the season topping the league with Chelsea for the bigger part of the first round, only to lose their place after a 5-0 defeat at my home in the last game of the first round.

I should mention that from the start of the season I had noticed that Neymar and Giroud, whose contracts both were to end had a "frosty relationship with the club". I tried to give them much more time, even though Neymar never was a regular. I increased the affection bar by one "brick" but they both refused to enter renewal talks. The disappointment with this was huge as I was in a situation were I would probably lose them for free and also play them, at least Giroud, ahead of players whom I would keep for the future, risking the latters' affection status as well.... To make up for their possible loss I decided to splash the cash and agreed with Lennon (7mil wage!!), Marko Marin, and Michel (Brazilian striker playing for Portuguese club Pacos Ferreira) and also decided to snap Insua who was on the transfer list.

I beat QPR with 5 goals from Giroud in the QF and spared two points against Liverpool at home as they came back from 2-0 to get a draw. The team's form kept steadily increasing. Just 7 games before the end of the season I was 4 points clear of Chelsea, almost certain to progress to the CL and had games against Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and City to give. I was also through to the final beating City 1-0 again! My opponent would be Everton.

Against Man Utd I finally managed to at least get a goalless draw! Chelsea also wandered 2 points and we were now 75 to 71. The next game was against them at home. They scored fast with Kalou and I instantly came back. Just after the 80th minute Kalou went past 3 or 4 of my defenders I was late to react and he passed to Pirlo who scored just in front of the line.....

With one point ahead I was playing Arsenal, another team that I have found really hard to beat. Despite going ahead twice, I never managed to contain them and lost 3-2.... Chelsea won and were now ahead. They did not lose even one point till the end of the season. I lost two more points at City and was now third behind Liverpool. In the last game they were playing away at Tottenham and lost. I beat Bolton and at least came second.

Despite the obvious disappointment, I was happy to notice that even though the level of my players had increased immensely, this did not mean that I needed to put less effort in my game, which is something that happened in the previous versions. Does anyone else share this opinion?

In the Cup final my team shone and beat Everton 2-1. It was a great boost for me as I assumed that my league position and the first title would make the Board decide to support my project.

Neymar signed for Man Utd and Giroud decided to replace Michel at Pacos Ferreira! This "swap" had also happened a couple of times in my previous ML with Everton. Has anyone else noticed it? Giroud was probably my favourite player till now. I signed him at the age of 25 for free and his overall rating was 79. When his second season at the club ended he had a rating of 86 and had scored 36 goals.

I am now in October of the 4th season. I will share the update in a new post starting from the summer proceedings.

4th season. FC Copenhagen. I play in the french league and i'm currently 1st, but i doubt it will last, since defending is so difficult this year. Won the Europa League last year, and this year i got through from the group stage as well. It's strange that i struggle in the league, but i'm doing great in EL matches. Have a great team, using only scandinavian players - almost. Only player from outside scandinavia in my team is french striker Roux. He's absolutely insane.

If anyone has just started ML or haven't played that many seasons you can easily sign many of the young players from scandinavia.

My current team:
--------------Berg-------------
----------Roux-------------------
Delaney--Midtsjø--R.Elm---Lundberg
-----------------------------------
Bengtsson--Zanka--A.Milosevic--Wass
-------------------------------------
------------Hansen------------------

Reserves:
Zohore - only 17 years from the beginning
Abdellaoue
T. Kristensen
s. eriksson
Armenteros
Ozdogan
kvist
Soderberg
m. nilsson
Toutouh - great young player.
and a few more i don't remember right now.

FINALLY i just signed Ekdal on a free transfer, after trying like a mad man for 3 years now.

Just past though the transfer window of my 1st season in the top flight and after a few games after the TW, starting to find a bit of form.

Currently in 14th but 7 points clear of the bottom 3 which is the important thing for me this season. Shimizu is a class act on the ball, his movement on the right wing is breathtaking if he gets a bit of space, although keeping his form up can be a problem (Staff issues I think).

Getting battered off Man Utd left a lot of my players under the weather, but getting beat 5-0 will take it's toll on the best of players...but fought back well to beat QPR 3-2 after being 2-1 down...well done lads. Jaric of all people becoming a rock in the midfield that I needed, after coming on at half time.

Ettori is fast becoming a great playmaker if only his defensive duties don't elude him. Team game sunshine don't for get to track back.

And the young Palmeri has proved he can hold his own at this level.

about 10 games to go before the end of the season, but seem to be in a good position to stay up. Lets hope my run of form and luck continues.

On a realistic note...Thanks for the help on my heading problems, using the Right Trigger seems to work better although I do still seem to lose a lot of goals though headers. But those 1-on-1s I'm better at, so thanks for that.

I've started so much master leagues, I've lost count.
It's because I keep ruining it by not having a set difficulty leading to stupid results.
I'm waiting for patch 1.03 to come out where I can start a new master league so hopefully I'll get used to the gameplay

I lose a lot of headers in my own box as well. However in their box i win a fair amount. In midfield it's almost 50-50. Timing is really everything Lee.
Sometimes i'm just unlucky that my player is 175 cm tall and he's up against someone 185 cm tall, so that player would lose in real life as well.
One of my cmfs is 188 cm tall, so he wins some headers.
Keep trying and don't forget the importance of using R2 (or RT on xbox?)
Sure you will be rewarded soon enough.

LOL, I am an R2 abuser. Everytime they have the ball, I use it but I still let in goals from thorugh balls which leaves gaps in my defense or let in goals from crosses.

Which leads me to thinking, does the CPU use any goal variation at all?

Im a long time PES fan, I started playing it since the ISS days in PS1. And I always play it in Top Player, and I do pretty well.
This year is... so different!!! I tried a ML in top player with orginal ML players, and I got DESTROYED like never before.
I kind of wanted to learn the defensive system so I started playing Eurocups, worlcups, and so on. Top player wasn't still an option even with teams like Spain or Barcelona.
So guys, what do you recommend for difficulty, Professional or Superstar (which I haven't tried)
I wanna start a new ML but I will need lots lots of patience.

I am also playing ML quite many years (about 7). It is the first time that I had hard time in ML at top level. My main issue is the defence, I cannot stop CPU. Professional level seems to fit me quite well until now; R2+X at defend seems to help (I use it for few games) although I still find hard to defend. Do you find difficult to defend on crosses as well?
