I have never fully understood WHY it is exactly that the player haves a sudden burst of pace after each Step-Over.. But for some reason this doesn't happens when you do the Fake-Shot or Cut the ball.

It would be cool to do some variations, like for example by pressing (o)+(x)+(x) or something among those lines the player could do the fake-shot and then follow it up with a burst of speed similar to the one you get after each step-over.

So it would be like the normal shot-feint, you could "feint" that your going right by (o)+(x) -and- then follow that up with a quick Tap on the (x) button. By doing this the player could get that same burst of speed that you get when doing step-overs.

But IMO it is better. Because you could kick-feint that your going Right and then follow that up by sprinting off to the Left. Or feint that your going Right and follow that up by actually sprinting off to the Right.

It would be like (o)+(x) plus the direction of the feint -and- then after a very slight pause or after no pause at all, following that up with a quick tap on the (x) button, plus the direction of this move.

I think it would be a very cool new feature to master, because it would require a lot of timing, and it would make Defending a much more interesting and enjoyable task. It would also add some much needed depth into Dribbling.

Plus it is something that is used in real life by players like Leo Messi.. who never seems to use any step-overs, and yet still haves plenty of explosiveness in his acceleration.

As for the Step-Overs.. I'm not really good at them, but it is also because I haven't practiced them enough. I'm sure that once I master it I'll see it very differently.

By the way, I have watched a lot of Match Footage from Pele, and I've noticed that the "fake-shot" animations in PES09 look like robotic imitations of Pele's movements. Maybe Seabass is a big Pele-Fan or something. Or maybe it's just me.

P.S - Sorry for the rant..

My understanding is that you do the step-over, change direction & burst of pace. The game sticks in the burst of pace for you if you don't do it yourself.

I just briefly hit the sprint button...

But you can do this already

How can I do it??

And it isn't that I don't understand why the sudden burst of acceleration.. the thing I do not understand is why Konami forces us into using "Step-Overs" just so we can use the burst of acceleration that comes with it.

When I Cut the Ball with the R2 button or with the "Fake-Shot"... I never get the same kick of power that I get after a couple of step-overs.

For me that's disappointing. I was just trying to say that Konami should take that "sudden burst of acceleration" and make an individual feature -instead- of something that only works after a step-over.

Push in the direction you want to fake the shot/pass at the time you are using the shot cancel, then immediately push the opposite diagonal & give sprint button a little squeeze. Like all skills, it takes a bit of practice with the timing but is very effective.

the burst of acceleration can be acheived with a well times press of sprint button. If you use the multiple step-overs command then interrupt, you don't get the speed burst, only when the full animation has finished. I do agree though that any change in speed should be instigated by the player & not the game.

Then I guess its me being an amateur...

But I do feel that it's easier to achieve that "burst of acceleration" after a couple of Step-Overs. I find it harder when I Fake-Shot. But I guess is lack of practice.

Though I still think it would be cool to have a Fixed Button for that task.

My favorite thing out wide (particularly when a defender is running right next to you or just ahead, trying to get a position on you) is full sprint to dead stop to drag back or side dribble. If you time it all right, the defender has gone hurtling (occasionally rather hilariously) by and is helpless to prevent the cross or cut in or whatever you want to do. You can practically walk into the box or cross from a standstill.

It's even better against live opponents. They have an extremely hard time predicting the stop, because they expect you to take the easy route and keep running so you can cut the ball back, and they tend lay on the sprint button way too much.

:chanlaugh: Maybe! Using the fake shot has been a fave of mine for a while so I'm just more used to it I guess.

True. Although I find this less effective against the AI on 2009 than previous versions. PES 6 AI fell for it ever single time! As you rightly say, It works a charm against human opposition.

One of my favorite ones in PES6 was going at slow or full speed and then suddenly stopping, and then following that up by "flicking" the ball Over the opponent. It pissed everyone off, but wasn't that easy to pull off..

The Drag Back was another personal favorite. I don't like it that much in PES09, it's too "watered down" now.

But at least there are new ones like the L1+R1.

Yeah, they've buggered up the drag back completely. Should've left it linked to the slow dribble.

some of the tricks just comes out randomly by pressing the arrows in difference directions. The only one you can really keep on doing is the step-over and you need someone with fast acceleration to get past defenders.
