vBulletin Update

Currently on 3.8.2.

Should really be 3.8.7 or 4.1.9. Admins seek out the invisible leader if bothered.

I'm sure I remember Mike mentioning about upgrading to vbulletin4 last year. Alas Matt Holme spends more time writing film blogs and investing into other ventures and rarely visits PESGaming.

Matt Holme writes film blogs? Since when?

He never visited here so that's not new. I used to have to get him via e-mail and he'd pass the request on to some tech guy he had.

On WhatCulture, although I just rechecked and its Matt Holmes not Matt Holme. It could be a typo ... but most likely I could be completely wrong

Matt Holme and Holmes are two different people. I used to make that mistake a while back.

This forum has needed an upgrade for a while now - just like the front page. Unfortunately, the front page was updated, or more accurately - downdated.

Aye, I've done some more checking and I'm completely wrong. I was beginning to think where he found the time for all of this, SoccerGaming network, his real estate company and film blogs

I think the site would benefit from being sold to be honest to someone/people who would invest money into it. Currently its just an entity in the SoccerGaming network. In terms of business port folio's SoccerGaming is worth more with PESGaming due to the wealth of activity on this site.

I would hope Matt would be sensible to invest in the latest vbulletin update. Perhaps we could form a fans consortium to give the site the update it needs

He wouldn't need to invest in the vBulletin update. The site has a licence to use it, someone simply needs to apply the updated software server-side after downloading it but I think to download it you have to log in on the vBulletin forums and have the licence key registered to the user account.

Matt's response:

I still want to do this, however the problem is the fact that basically none of the add-ons actively used on the forums are compatible with vbulletin4. In addition, neither is the general layout/style. My concern is that if we just went ahead and upgraded they’d be many long-time members complaining about the sudden change.

I don’t have a time frame for it at the moment sorry, but it is still a priority of mine.

Apart from the improved functionality and features of vbulletin4, is there any other particular reason why you’d like to see if implemented so badly?

I think those reasons are sufficient and adequate don't you?

Matt did say he would upgrade to 3.8.7 soon but hasn't got round to it yet it seems.

Call me a worthless cynic but I do not believe Matt is familiar with the concept of 'soon'

adverb, -er, -est.
1.
within a short period after this or that time, event, etc.: We shall know soon after he calls.
2.
before long; in the near future; at an early date:

Yes, I'm getting tired of having to chase him up just to get things done. It seemed like he was actually taking an interest in the site when he sorted out a new front page and upgraded the server.

The server upgrade, fair enough, but the front page is frankly an abysmal attempt at improvement. As Rainey said, its a free word press template. Considering how much more activity this site has compared to the other Soccergaming forums I dare say there is a spot of 'leaching' going on.
