Its like in PES 2012 again, you need to offer them contracts if you want them to stay.

OMG i played it yesterday was my first time in pes13 >> i hate when you offer a contract as a matches they should make it seasonally. i mean we pay too much money for them to stay for 10 matches . and they games rewards won't even give much money to keep the players for longer

My way of choosing is I let the other player chose first. If he is Real I will chose barca or the other way round.

If not then I will go for someone else of equivalent stats, works pretty well. That way its always fair.

I can understand though, around 70% of people I play go straight to Real...

I learned to accept the fact that if I play quick match I will end up playing some loser that picks Barca or Real 90% of the time. I don't think its because its PES but just because they have the best players in Messi and Ronaldo. This happens in NBA 2k as well, everyone picks Miami or the Lakers, just how things go..... With that said, I welcome the challenge of playing Barca or Real! Most of the time the ppl picking them are clueless about the game, they just try to get the ball to Messi or Ronaldo and run run run to their little heart's desire. If you understand this you see that its easy to beat them with good defense, patience and well placed counter attacks. I had a 600ish rating in 2012 playing vs these losers most of the time, in 2013 its even easier to beat them because the defending is better.

@ IronCity.... so disspointed you jumped ship to FIFA, especially now that PES is so good again with its lates installment.

I do like FIFA13, maybe not the best game ever but very enjoyable. As I mentioned in my profile, it was a combination of PES2012, online, and knowing I would be staring down the sequence of OF, DLC a month later, OF fix, DLC again, OF fix again that really made my decision to leave PES this year. But I will miss catching you for some games.

I don't think I played any other teams than Spurs and Napoli on PES2012, but I played a few matches today with Barcelona on 2013... I mostly played against Real Madrid though, but I completely tore those fuckers a new asshole.
I usually manage just fine with Spurs, but I have to admit that using Barcelona was easy mode. Messi hat-trick in two matches, and one by Pedro with red arrow :)

All in all, online is really a pathetic excuse for fun tbh, I won't be playing online much more this year either as I prefer even matches with friends over this bullshit.

A very nicely working tactic set online;

4-3-3 (Close to Barcelona default, but narrower SS's, the central striker can either be Messi type SS or Torres type CF, I hardly notice any difference tactically) or 4-2-3-1 (Riskier, but even more powerful offensively, I only use with teams that got two decent Box-to-Box midfielders as CMF)
Possession
Support 10
Distance 10
Style 10
Pressing 13
Def Line 14
Compactness 8

Push defenders up around the same level as default Arsenal or Barcelona, sidebacks more or less on level with the CD's but hugging the side line and CD's a bit wide (either side of the half circle on the edge of the box is a nice measurement). The DMC will drop down as an extra defender and mark their striker, and pressure 13 along with compactness 8 will make sure you keep decent lines. I had more than 60% possession in all matches today, something I usually manage with Spurs as well online (going to be harder without Modric though), and I played risky and offensive and not trying to hog the ball. I was going for massive attack goals galore.

This setup will work your midfielders like dogs, but it will give you loads of passing options offensively and you can really lay siege on opposition box, forcing mistakes and re-win the ball until you eventually force it into the net. If you are trailing, move sidebacks up to midfield line, add "swap wings" and go one step more offensively on the attack level bar.

nice post... I wonder how your format would work with Juve. I've been trying to find a good formation that utilized the mid fielders but haven't found anything I like. Their default is a 3 defender set up but in pes2013 with the super through passes it really leaves the back wide open for counters.... I will try yours tonight, lets see how I like it.

They should give us an option to search for different opponents. I'm tired of playing the same teams over and over but I have to admit I choose both teams when matched up against Real and Barca. :erm:

The reason these teams are picked over and over again, is because Konami never make anyone else able to really challenge them stats wise. Sure there are many teams with really good players, but not at the same level of Barca and Real.

Its a shame really because yeah these teams are good in real life, but there are quiet a few other teams that are just as good as them in real life and should be able to compete at a similar level in PES.

In my experience I did at least last year play a plethora (how about that word eh ) of teams. I rarely went to English rooms usually I frequented the French speaking rooms and got to play many Ligue 1 type matches. Italian rooms even more diversity and from time to time I'd go to one of the Turkish rooms for some Istanbul derbies. English rooms tend to attract ironically more non UK players many individuals from the Mid East flock there and low and behold pick the 2 big clubs. Portugese matches are a bit of a gamble but I have played some Porto, Benfica players - but for the most part I find their player to be in love with Ronadlo and almost exclusively pick Madrid (apologies for the generalization).

Your setting yourself up with random matches make a room scan the player and go from there - the small to mid level players are not as rare as you think. If you're lucky enough befriend the people who pick these teams and play exclusively with them, at least thats what I do ;)

For me it comes down to some people wanting to give themselves the best possible chance of winning.

what different gaming cultures the two competing games grow. I have never had a non-friend opponent pick barca or RM game playing FIFA. Yet in PES that the only opponents I can find....except for the one game they picked the Spain national team.

Are you sure it's not because of the matching system. People usually pick the same teams (Chelsea or Madrid) and abuse lobbed through balls and finesse shots. Don't try and tell me the FIFA community are any better.

One way to avoid Barca or Real which works for me in Ranking Match
Set Pass Support to similar level and me myself using 1 bar pass assist
Facing 2 Man City, 1 Athletic Bilbao and 1 PSG using this setting
Hope this will help

Having never played one of the regular online cups (not MLO), I thought of entering one last night but unfortunately it was full. However, even if you can't enter you can still see a breakdown of the teams people have picked. So, of the 300 people who had entered, 110 picked Barcelona and 67 picked Real Madrid. Suppose one way of looking at it is that you still had a 40% chance of not getting one of those two teams each match, although I felt kind of sorry for the brave soul that had picked Queens Park Rangers !

Having said that, if Barca and Real Madrid are that overpowered, perhaps we need a 'no Real or Barca' cup", or alternatively a limit on the number of people that can pick a certain team (team embargo ?) in the online cups to mix things up a bit

so they must be having Barca vs Barca matches, and RM vs RM. Oh man.

I tried quitting as soon as they picked one of those 2 teams and ended up with a few losses and a moderately high disconnection rate. I thought you got a disconnection penalty if the match started and not on the select teams point. Konami sucks, i still think we should get an option to look for other opponents and that way we wouldn't have to always play Barca or Madrid.

Online should be renamed "who can play better with Real or Barca

So bored with playing Barca and Real online. Boring the ass of me. You can play well and still lose. Infact a 2 year old could play with these teams and win. Boring boring boring as hell.

couldnt agree more with this. people need to learn to play without the best team(s) on the game. anyone can get a breakaway with ronaldo or messi and score. grow a pair and pick different teams.

I have different experience - people playing Real or Barca are mostly so readable that I can beat them even with weaker teams (i play mostly for Schalke). On the other hand - people playing similar teams are usually harder to defeat, because they know to play better - even with worser teams. Only weak players choose always Barca/Madrid.

One advice - learn how to defend through balls - these people mostly play these
Second advice - try to keep possesion, they are getting nervous, when they do not have ball :)
