To be onside, the opposition has to make a controlled play of the ball. That doesn't mean that PES doesn't still arse it up every match, though. The whistle blows regardless of who actually gets control of the ball, so there's very little opportunity to take advantage of defensive errors...

Set up a strategy button for CB Overlap (choose your CB with the best header skills), and when you initiate it, try to break up the wings and give your CB time to come barreling into the box, then cross it in to him.

+1 I find it to be most effective when turning a defender in the box. If you can keep the ball away and the ref is a good way off, it'll work maybe one out five times. I can't get it it work at all outside the box. I have better luck drawing actual fouls.

One "big" league will be left out by default in every ML (since there are only four D1 leagues), so it sounds like your current one dropped La Liga. You can change that when you're choosing your league at the start of ML, but once you've begun playing, you can't do anything about it.
