Then don't create a "new player". Changing the Special Abilities is a MUST for any next gen Football game. 100% agree with 'Original?'. And by the way, Penalty, Sliding Tackle, Marking, etc, etc.. - are all individual techniques, and they should all be individual stats.
Don't create a new player? So you're saying you want complicated stats at the expense of accessability for 95% of people who play the game?
Say if I wanted to create myself, (I don't like it though, but I know some people who do create themselves or friends) or maybe I want to create a player who is not on the game, like on PES5 I created Daniel Agger when Liverpool signed him, or even the Sheff Wed team, I'm not allowed to because they've made a labrynth of statistics whereupon perfect knowledge of who you're creating (and a shedload of patience) is the only way of getting the best effect. Seriously, that would only appease the hardcore fanboys if that was added.
Also, if you had such a complex, to a point where it's like the lovechild of Football Manager and Wisden, you are going to deter a hell of a lot people than you are going to attract.
And finally, I think Konami would rather buy Northern Rock than spend all their time judging 100 different stats for hundreds of different players. That's just a guess though.
My suggestion: get rid of the Special Ability bit, and introduce
some new stats, but not too many. And when you're creating a player, you have the option to do a simpler method, where say it's grouped into a few groups, like Dribbling would cover both Dribble Accuracy and Dribble Speed and Passing Power could cover Long Pass Power and Short Pass Power. Therefore you can make a player without giving up your life, but those who want to see a little stat bar for every aspect of PES is happy.
