Just go on youtube allot of fantasy goals there. They should change that.

If we take Youtube as a factor, then search PES 2008 and you'll find 80% of the goals are 30-yard screamers, but that doesn't mean it happens all the time.

Also if you ignore the fact that with FIFa doing tricks will get you a goal easily then you are lying

My style of play is not tricksey at all, but maybe that's because I use to play with lower-echelon teams, and I can tell you tricks didn't do squat for me there. Besides, if you ignore the fact that in PES 2008 just running with a bulky striker will get you a goal easily, then you're the one who's lying.

So if what you say about FIFA is true, then both games have a similar weakness, only that in PES it requires no skill at all.

The thing PES has and FIFA still doesn't is that special spark that makes it feel so lifelike at times. However, for the first time FIFA has gameplay strengths to make up for that: realistic pace, all kinds of manual passes, and oh yeah, it also makes it hard for you to score 5 goals per game, something I hope Konami fixes this year.

If we were talking FIFA 08 vs PES 6, then I'd shut my mouth. But to say PES 2008 is vastly superior makes no sense. Both games have different weak points, but PES 2008 has many more...

Well said. From one of the videos ive seen, the gameplay looks much much better. I also hope Konami fix the goalkeepers. But well lets face it, how many of you think Konami can actually do it this year?. For the past 3 years they seem to have been lazy. I will eat my words if PES09 is a brilliant game.

i am not saying pes is more superior. I just think it's better depending on what you like. Yes i do like screamers and yes in pes2008 it's a easy way to score, So Konami should balance the game more to satisfy us both. Screamers don't happen so often but they also don't take it all out.

i was saying that with FIFA it has been the same year after year only from fifa08 there have been major improvements and I acknowledge this, but there are allot of people here on the forum bashing pes2008 like it is a disaster. FIFA and PES are two totally different games. It just depends on what you like.

When we compare pes6 with pes 2008 i prefer 2008 because I like the pace, it's fast and kinda arcade like. With pes6 scoring was impossible from outside the box, that was one thing i didn't like and the goalies were way to weak 1on1. If they can balance that out I will be a happy man. That's all

i really hate the graphics in fifa, don't know why everyone says they are better then pes's. yeah more players are running around, but graphicly it looks terrible. in replay zoomed in its ok, but from far away, gaming perspective, it just doesnt do the trick. ill stick to pes. and dont let me get started about gameplay

^Agreed. Pes is better in graphics. Fifa's player faces doesn't look that good compared to pes. The ONLY thing in graphics that fifa has better are the stadiums and the overall lighting. Apart from that, pes's graphics are superior.

I'm with Barry. Hoping we get one game worth shouting about, the gameplay in Euro 2008 was way better than FIFA 08, and a couple more improvements EA could be onto a total winner with FIFA 09.

But it's all about opinions, I love PES 2008 and apparently i'm one of a few who do love it.

I'll certainly give both games a bash and see what happens.

I agree, it's all a matter of opinion; People who know what REAL FOOTBALL is will always choose PES over FIFA. On the other hand, casual gamers who do not REALLY understand Football will most likely choose FIFA.

I think FIFA09 looks like a very decent game, it looks like a legitimate alternative to PES6. However, one of FIFA's main flaws is still in the damn game; The Dribbling Controls, the unrealistic Dribbling Tricks that are performed via the Right Analog Stick (R3 button) -the- Dribbling System that makes everything play and feel so arcadish in FIFA.

I mean, for starters -if you're skilled enough- you can dribble just about anyone with proper timing. And to top it off, in order to perform the simplest of tricks -you- have to push and hold the L2 button and THEN use the R3 button (Right Analog Stick). It is just too slow and complicated for the gameplay, you have to basically have it all planned out before doing a SIMPLE Dribbling move -THIS- makes FIFA play more like an RPG game.

Anyways, that is mainly why I will choose PES over FIFA again this year -but- my patience is running short, and I do hope that Seabass and Konami show a little more decency to their customers. I want to see New Player Attributes because New Stats are needed in order to establish FURTHER differences between different players.

I also agree. Many people prefer FIFA's graphics, tagging them as "Superior" -but- I have copy-pasted the pictures, I have done side-by-side comparisons and I just prefer PES's Graphics.. the faces look better, and the grass also looks better.

And again, I don't see much difference between the graphics now. Back in the PS2 there was an obvious difference -but- now Both games have good graphics, a little disappointing for a PS3 game, but they are decent graphics nevertheless. The ONLY difference now is in the GAMEPLAY.

I have scored them too, but what I was saying is when it's easier there might be people who will like the game better. Some people just don't like the hardness of pes that's why they go to fifa.

but thats why pes is better than fifa, it has more of a challenge as its a harder game.. when i get a new pes game i always get whipped by the comp but when i play a fifa game for the first time i win easily. if they make pes easier for the masses then they will lose some of the real hardcore pes fans and that would be a shame

We had a chance to see FIFA 09 for the first time at EA's Season Opener event a few weeks ago. Although some of the most exciting features are still under wraps until E3, we did have a chance to check out the gameplay improvements made to this year's game.

Many of the gameplay improvements that debuted in UEFA 08, EA's other soccer game (released earlier this year), have found their way into FIFA 09. These changes include the implementation of weather, interactive celebrations, adaptive team AI, and dynamic crowd reactions. Although some of the changes merely add a visual flair to the soccer experience, others such as rain games will have an impact on gameplay and strategy. Long passes will become more difficult to complete because the ball may get muddled in wet patches scattered across the pitch. Player movement will also be affected because ballhandlers will be unable to make quick cuts, and less-agile players may slip in the wet terrain

Improved controls and branching dribble animations should make players like Ronaldinho even more dangerous.

However, of all of the changes carried over from UEFA, adaptive team AI may have the greatest impact. Given the great contrast in team skill levels in UEFA, EA implemented an adaptive AI that used realistic team strategies based on the team's opponent. For instance, a team with less talent may choose to play a defensive game against a more-skilled opponent by dropping 9 or 10 defenders back to defend their goal. The end result is that games with uneven opponents will still offer a challenging experience. This feature will undoubtedly impact FIFA 09 as well. Popular club teams such as Barcelona will find it more difficult to score against less-heralded opponents. In addition, it is EA's hope that this will encourage gamers to try out other teams.

Another issue that EA's FIFA development team knew was unhappy with in previous iterations was the herky-jerky transition between dribbling animations, especially when the player made drastic directional changes. The root cause of this was the absence of branching animation mechanics (a feature that is becoming popular in other EA Sports games). Previously, one animation had to play to completion before the next one could start

However, in FIFA 09, directional changes during a dribbling animation will dynamically branch to other variations. This will have implications on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. More responsive controls will give the ballhandler more options. On the other hand, the fluid motion of animations should make it easier for defenders to anticipate ballhandler movement and adapt in kind.

Previously, one animation had to play to completion before the next one could start.

Branching animations are just one aspect of how FIFA 09 has improved on player-to-player interaction. EA developers have overhauled player physics in this year's game to provide more-realistic player motion, especially when colliding with other bodies. We saw this trend first in UEFA 08 with the new free-motion header system, which let players jostle for position while the ball was in the air. This idea has expanded in FIFA 09, factoring in player speed and weight. Larger players will now be able to dominate collisions and use their weight to leverage better position on headers or fights for possession. Although player jostling during a dribble was seen in UEFA, application of weight now adds another element of strategy to the gameplay. For instance, larger defenders need not risk a slide tackle when they would control the jostle.

Speed of the player will now dictate length of slides and collision momentum. This is an important addition because penalties on slides have been toned down from years past (though obviously slide tackles from behind will still elicit a call). Sliding for the ball is now a viable defensive strategy, but the effectiveness of the slide will depend on the defender's speed. To balance this on the offensive end, players will no longer enter into a canned falling animation when taking a slide. Instead, if the leg being swept is not the plant foot, the offensive player will simply stumble momentarily while remaining on his feet.

Another feature seen earlier this year in UEFA is the evolution of FIFA 09's Custom Team Tactics. The feature will let you augment 11 tactical sliders across 140 attacking and 40 defending options. By doing so, you will be able to specify to your CPU teammates exactly what actions to perform in various situations. For instance, on the defensive end, you could direct your teammates as to when and in which positions to bring a help defender to pressure the ball. Custom Team Tactics will probably have the greatest impact online, where potentially each opponent will have teams catered to his or her style of play.

With over 50,000 combinations in Custom Team Tactics, you will have greater control of your teammates than ever before.

Finally, EA has also ramped up one of the most anticipated features from last year's game: Be a Pro. As in FIFA 08, this feature will let you take control of a single player (in player-lock) and master his positional responsibilities. As a striker, this may involve scoring goals, whereas as a defender it may simply involve winning back possession for your team. FIFA 09 carries this game mode further by letting you play a four-season campaign in your attempt to become a national legend.

FIFA 09's focus on improving gameplay should make an already solid series that much stronger. Realistic player physics and branching animations have received positive responses in other EA games and will now add a new element to FIFA's gameplay. Similarly, initiatives to improve team customization will allow gamers and their CPU-controlled teammates to play with greater synergy, limiting AI handicaps. We will bring you more news on FIFA 09 once we learn more at E3 in a few weeks.

FIFA 09 for PC is next generation!!! The king PES has competition

http://www.gamingaccess.com/index.php?news_id=13182

Electronic Arts Itoday revealed it has created platform specific experiences for its popular FIFA 09 football franchise from EA SPORTS. FIFA 09 has been designed and customized to deliver a unique gameplay experience that takes advantage of the hardware specifications of each available platform— the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system, Wii home video game system, PC, PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system, Nintendo DS, PSP (PlayStation®Portable) system and mobile—when it is released worldwide this autumn.

“We have listened and responded to gamers and football fans around the world by building customized gameplay experiences for FIFA 09 on each platform,” said Andrew Wilson, Vice President & Executive Producer for the franchise. “Everyone wants to play a football game that is customized to their system and delivers a unique and enjoyable experience. We understand that and have innovated features, created new modes and designed controls that are tailored to each specific platform.”

With over 250 additions and enhancements to core gameplay, FIFA 09 on the PLAYSTATION 3 system and Xbox 360 deliver an authentic football simulation that enables you to customize the game to suit your style and ability. New animation technology creates more responsive first-time shooting and passing, faster and more controlled dribbling, and improved trapping. New player momentum physics, which exploits the power of these platform engines, delivers realistic player collisions, authentic jostling for the ball, and more variation in tackling.

“We listened to our consumers to make the changes that they wanted,” said David Rutter, Producer of FIFA 09 on the PLAYSTATION 3 system and Xbox 360. “No other game has over 250 feature changes and additions focused on improving core gameplay. We have an absolutely authentic recreation of the real sport through attention to detail.”

For the first time, go inside the game engine to customize the strategy and positioning of your teammates to decide exactly how your team will play in any situation. With new Custom Team Tactics you have all the tools to become a first-team coach. Adjust and customize tactical settings so CPU players and your team perform just like the real-world team plays and make strategic decisions to exploit your opponent’s weaknesses, all on-the-fly. The popular feature innovation Be A Pro has expanded to a career mode called Be A Pro: Seasons where you can choose or create a professional player and then develop his skills at a single outfield position over four years with the ultimate goal of becoming a national legend. The matchday experience is now true-to-life with a referee and linesmen on the pitch. Plus, crowds, stadium atmosphere and commentary have all been regionalized in exact detail.

On the Wii, enjoy FIFA 09 All-Play one of two ways—a Wii-specific take on the authentic ‘11 vs. 11’ simulation or over-the-top ‘8 vs. 8’ arcade action within a stylized environment with Mii™ versions of your favorite superstars, like Ronaldinho and Wayne Rooney. Refined motion and point-and-play controls make playing FIFA 09 All-Play even more intuitive and perfectly balanced for gamers of any ability to enjoy fun, football action. Choose to play the style that best suits your skills from advanced controls for experienced players to new EA SPORTS™ All-Play controls that enables novice players to focus on fun using simplified controls with AI assistance.

“You’ve never played football like this before,” said Kaz Makita, Line Producer of FIFA 09 All-Play. “Our new ‘8 vs. 8’ Footii Match enables you to play an exaggerated style of football where the personality of your Mii comes to life. You can play with your Mii characters against or alongside some of the biggest stars in a truly unique football experience tailored specifically for the Wii version of FIFA 09.”

FIFA 09 on PC now features leading-edge visuals that deliver graphics that exploit the power of hi-spec gaming PCs, as requested by PC gamers. Star players are featured in photorealistic quality with remodeled likenesses for ultra-realistic gameplay. FIFA 09 on PC also features customizable mouse gameplay controls that deliver deeper, more intuitive command over your squad. Plus, customizable widgets are now integrated into the menu system to connect you to the FIFA community and real-world football so you stay connected while playing FIFA 09.

“We are committed to investing and innovating to create a PC specific experience,” said Producer Paul Hossack. “Gamers want a gameplay experience exclusively for PC and FIFA 09 on PC delivers this.”

With 500 new animation sequences and all-new collision and shielding systems—representing the biggest innovations to the multiplatform EA SPORTS football engine in four years— FIFA 09 delivers more responsive, intelligent and realistic physical action on the PlayStation 2 system. The new collision detection system with 360 degree coverage enables players to behave according to their physical attributes where player speed, direction and strength determine everything from the severity of the collision to the outcome of possession. Changes to the animation system reward the skillful gamer during one-on-one situations between attackers and defenders. Tuned acceleration attributes enable swifter virtual players to possess quicker first steps and gain advantage in sprints. Plus, four new skill moves—scoop turns, rainbow flicks, heel-to-heel knocks and ball rolls—give you a total of 32 tricks in your arsenal to perform just like Ronaldinho.

FIFA 09 on the PSP system and Nintendo DS now include the innovative Be A Pro feature, including the unique Be A Pro camera that re-creates the rush and excitement of racing in on goal, designed exclusively for each system.

Additional major feature innovations for PLAYSTATION 3, Xbox 360 and PC will be revealed later this month and announced at the Leipzig Games Convention in August.

I have both games. So don't even think I haven't played fifa(i have some nerdy friends who love scoring fantasy goals without trying the effort, i let them have some fun in their lives). The evidence is overwhelming. Just go on youtube allot of fantasy goals there. They should change that. Also if you ignore the fact that with FIFa doing tricks will get you a goal easily then you are lying.

Don't be such a tit mate Look at this video, hell the first goal in it is ridiculous! Then on 4.46 Toure scores a goal from 35-40 yards, top corner, no backlift with the ball at his feet and it flies into the top corner!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=NkEvR7dpVbM

Since i've played FIFA i've not scored one like that at all. PES this year was full of shit keepers, stupid scorelines and defenders scoring goals from light years away. Worst PES ever and i've been a fan since i was a kid back in the ISS days ffs.

Yeah, this is actually a win-win situation for -us- the customers. Konami was too laid back before -and- you can notice that because you can play PES6 and go all the way to PES4 and still feel right at home.

PES5 was a tweaked version of PES4 -and- PES6 was a re-tweaked version of PES4. It is a FACT that most PES fans would be more than happy with a version of PES6 with Next Gen Graphics -but- I just think that after 4 years of the same $hit, it is about time Konami takes it further than PES4.

Better competition from FIFA can only help in that respect.

But if i can have a opnion i would say FIFA still sucks comapred to PEs. Those who have played PES for years and now suddenly say they will go with FIFA are liars. PES5 was a tweaked version of PES4

Completely disagree. PES 2008 is more of a tweaked version of PES4 in my opinion.
PES5 was more like an improved PES3 (slower, more subtle, good player dynamics). PES4 was all about speed, likewise PES 2008.

You do have a very good point though on this being a win win situation. Konami have had a kick up the arse. I will quite happily buy FIFA '09 if they stuff up the latest PES. Seabass has been riding his luck since PES6, which took well over a year to iron out online problems. Bring them both on. That's what I say.

PS. Can anyone help me design my own football game? I have the ideas. Just need someone to program it. My idea is very simple. It's all to do with momentum/acceleration. Something both PES and FIFA have never really addressed!
