I forgot to mention that this is for the PS3 North American version. If you or anyone else is still interested, post here.

damn...i'm a pc user..BTW could you give us some "instructions" on how to proceed on basically posting your adjustments for some teams.

appreciate your work.

Sure. It's actually pretty easy. Just go to the Gameplan for each team from the Edit section on the main menu, then to Tactics, then Team Style, and you find the eight settings. You just need to edit the 1st, 4th, 5th, and 6th settings:

1. Player Support - Add 20 to each team.
4. Offensive Style - Subtract 20 from each team.
5. Pressing - Add 10 to each team, not going over 70.
6. Defensive Line - Add 20 to each team.

And for the third time, this is Professional difficulty I'm playing on, and I'm pretty sure other difficulty levels will need different adjustments.

I play on the hardest so i will potter around with the settings, i always find that when you pass the ball up to strikers its always guarenteed your strikers V 4 defenders, none of the computers defenders get taken out of place etc so you can expose the wings like when you play a mate.

The best way to test these things is by choosing two pretty equal teams in the "average" pool. Edit both teams and spectate an exhibition match between the teams 5 or 10 minute games. If they are unable to score against each other (wich is often the case) you know that BAL will suck.

I'm pretty sure boosting player support (the first one listed) will help this. I seem to notice side backs more willing to push forward on the attack after I raised this setting.

Raising pressing and defensive line (#5 and #6) will help a bit too, because that will draw defenders out of position more.

I also recommend these for Professional difficulty:

3. Position Switch - Raise by 10 for each team. This will help break up the ping pong passing that seems to happen so frequently by the computer AI. Players will get out of position more, resulting in more interceptions.

7. Compactness - Lower by 20 for each team. This will spread out the defense, making it easier to maneuver in the midfield area. It will also give you a bit more time to make decisions when receiving a pass.

Got these recommendations from another thread. They are along the same lines as what I have been saying, though I just recently recommended giving a slight boost to Position Switch too (see post above this one).

Credit to Sabatasso for these.

"Professional:
global +10 pressure
global +20 player support
global +10 defensive line
global -30 attacking style
global -30 compactness

Top Player
global -30 pressure
global +20 player support
global +10 defensive line
global -30 attacking style
global -35 compactness

This will result in more open games in BAL, and also make for a more interesting ML career. More goals, and AI scripting will kick in much less because the AI is able to score regularly without cheating. The Top Player solution is definetly the best alternative, regardless of how "good" you are because it isn't really that hard, just challenging."

has anybody actually tried these to confirm that it works?

A little test based on SEBATASSO’s suggestions. I started with ENGLAND playing in a EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS on top player.

ENGLAND 0-0 Poland
56 – 40 possession. Only one shot from Poland.

ENGLAND 2-0 Bosnia
Two Heskey Goals, little coming from Bosnia up front. However they are a much weaker side.

ENGLAND 1-2 Germany
This for me was going to be the 1st real test against a decent opponent. It was as I suspected, Germany came straight at me. I found it much tighter and they got on the scoresheet straight away. After a Heskey goal, Klose managed to snatch an 89th minute winner. Germany were far more clinical, had 4 shots on goal and constantly put my defence under pressure.

EARLY THOUGHTS
Their is clearly alot more extra time on the ball, which is great it allows for a more flowing game moving the ball nicely from player to player. It is also evident when they have the ball as they move it around quite nicely. There seems to be little of this constant pressure and tackling resulting in the ball bouncing off everybody and thus less clunky.
Also, interestingly not once did i find myself in the ridiculous situation of running at the centre of defence, having defenders drop back and allowing me to shoot. This is without a doubt much better. The defence is a little easier to play through, allowing for more killer balls. It’s nice to actually be able to run through on goal. This is where I can understand how the changes suggested by sabatasso accommodate become a legend nicely because their is much more time on the ball, a more free flowing game, and the ability to look to get in behind the backline!
Great suggestions SABATASSO, well worth a try.

Great suggestions SABATASSO, well worth a try.

Thank you.

Feel free to experiment to make even better settings, I just made these ones on the fly based on my personal experience with the game and havent really tested anything else because this worked so well on first try.

It's worth mentioning that I have edited all teams "Assisted settings" as well.
The last setting is set between 3-4 for all teams, along with setting "2" on "lineup" and "1" on "Auto form change" and left the rest as it is.

If you set teams like Barcelona, Italy, Brazil, England and Argentina (Etc, the good ones) a little more compact (between 30-40) and pressure (30-40) you will ensure that these teams will offer a much harder game for you to win, but the creole football feeling will decrease the higher these settings are.

I have done some global stat editing also to help the AI along a bit.
global +5 dribbling speed between 1-89 to a max of 89 (Helps AI get around the backs to cross)
global +15 Swerve between 1-94 to a max of 94 (Better ball physics, anyone with a pair of decent football shoes and a decent ball can curve the ball quite alot)
global +5 Long Pass speed between 1-89 to a max of 89 (Long passes are harder to defend against, but more effective for you as well.)

And since I play 6 minute matches fixed by kitserver and 5 minute matches setting ingame, I did a +5 stamina between 1-94 to a max of 94 to make up for the extra stamina loss. (you lose stamina as if the match was lasting 5 mins but you play 1 minute more meaning everyone was red at final whistle. They are still more tired than original with this edit, but extra time gets really interesting this way.)

I have :erm:

So have I.

trueblade, yeah, the difference in spacing is probably the biggest change. You get that extra split second of time which makes a world of difference. It seems to give you more midfield play, because there's more room to operate and pass. There's also more time and space in the penalty area, so you don't get half the players on the pitch converging on the ball at once.

As I noted before, I also suggest a slight boost to "Position Switch". On the default settings the computer AI seems a bit too adept at stringing together pass after pass after pass. With more position switching it breaks that up a bit and you get a more organic feel to the game, with guys looking to create more. I raised each team by ten and in BAL I have had some beautifully flowing games.

I am a little surprised that their hasnt been more more attention towards your findings because its almost not even the same again. I think what you prove is that in fact PES 2010 is a good game, however Konami's default settings for tactics completely wrecks it!

I have to say become a legend seems more appealing than ever since I have had a play with these settings, however I guess I would have to start again?!

Yes, I believe new game is required.

I would suggest we made an OF using these findings, but it looks like we're playing on different systems here. Either way, we need to get this info out to the public because it's quite revolutionary in the gameplay departement.

Any suggestions how to do that?

I could possibly make these edits to a original KONAMI OF and put it up for download so that people can experience the difference and explain how they can easily add this to their own favorite OF, for PC.

edit: My mistake. Yes, you have to start over.

That's pretty much what this thread was for. Though yeah I suppose uploading an option file would help too, along with an explanation of the changes made.

I know there are other PES forums too. I only really visit this forum though.

Certainly is worth considering, at the moment I am waiting for Daymos and Cowsons V2 file to start my master league. With their permission it may be that they will allow me to offer their file with the tactical changes that have been suggested!

Although I am not the most technical with how to offer option files!

I just made a thread on tactical sliders and I saw there is one you've made already. Anyway my thread is about what values in tactical sliders must be set for different teams to make them play like they do in real life. Chip in there mate.

link please to thread

I have been playing BAL, making changes along the way to the edit file (PS3), and the changes take effect in BAL mode. It may be different for other systems. Just check you team's gameplan to see if the changes are there.

I am quite sure that any tactical changes done after the BAL game is created is not implemented into the save file. I tried switching formations for my National team and club team using this method and it did not work.

I am talking about PC though.

So how do i apply these global settings? do i have to go to each team one by one and change the settings? because it will take a LONG time.
