Adjusting team strategies for realism

I am quite sure that any tactical changes done after the BAL game is created is not implemented into the save file...

You are right. Changes made won't effect any league, cup, or BAL mode file. So if you want to see any changes you have to start over. I was mistaken.

So how do i apply these global settings? do i have to go to each team one by one and change the settings? because it will take a LONG time.

It actually doesn't take that long. The way I've been doing it is one league/group at a time, either before or after I play. It takes about 10-15 minutes per league/group.

A good way to test things long term is to make changes, then play a cup mode to see if those changes are for the better. That way you can unlock things and test at the same time. Then when you find good settings, start one of the longer modes.

You can also use my earlier posts in this thread as a reference, to know what setting does what.

Yeah I agree, it doesnt take as long to edit as you may think. Certainly well worth the time it does take to do it also!

It is a shame that these changes dont take effect in my saved BAL, the thought of starting again is painful. However I couldn't play it with the default settings now I have experienced the edited ones!

If you run the game on PC it can be done quickly by using PES2010 editor by wild@, in the global editing section.

Just got Winning Eleven 2010 in the post. Woohoo! I've only played a handful of games, so I won't post any more about it til I've played it a lot more. There does seem to be improvements in gameplay compared to PES 2010, but I'll leave comments about that for a while.
One thing that is definitely different than PES 2010 is that Winning Eleven 2010 has another level of difficulty above Top Player, called Superstar. I am certain that this level is harder than Top Player on PES 2010. I played a match as Brazil against Argentina. Messi was ripping me apart, pulling off skill moves and tricks I have very rarely seen happen on Top Player in PES. From the few games I've played on Superstar level I feel sure that it is harder, the AI is more intelligent and skillful, and that they attack more. I've played nearly 300 games against the CPU in PES 2010, (plus the same if not more against mates), and I've been playing PES since it was ISS, years ago. So for me I can feel this difference with Winning Eleven. I don't know why PES 2010 doesn't have the Superstar level of difficulty, I think it needs it.
In the meantime it's great to be playing against decent AI teams again!

I know, I had to abandon my BAL, and couldn't find the heart to start another one.

But I have started a new Master League, and it is glorious.

If only we had something like this for xbox :crymore:

I thought PRO EVO EDITING STUDIO by Goldorakiller supported XBOX360 files. I haven't checked though, but worth a shot.

PS. I would like to add that even though I suggested playing Top Player with tailored tactics sliders for that difficulty earlier, someone quoted me from another post I believe, I would never recommend Top Player in BAL mode.

The team your player is on are forever stuck on "Professional" no matter wich option you choose, and that is also the main reason why your team is unable to string a few passes together on Top Player setting.
BAL mode is tailored for Professional setting, and by adding the tactic sliders I've proposed or similar like Blazer mentioned, you will have a cracking time until your player gets red stats (95+). Something happens then, your teammates gets retarded all of a sudden and don't manage to do much on their own. Because of this, I always remove all my training points once my player got high 80 and low 90 in the desired abilities. Once your player gets old and stats start to diminish you can put the focus points back on to try and slow the process down.

Guys... I think I just struck gold!

I was fooling around with the OF (as usual) to try to make the AI play better, and guess what... I found it!!!!
I activated "Passer" card on every single player in the OF, and Box to Box on all "CMF" to make the holes between defence and attack smaller. I also activated "Pinpoint Pass" for all "CMF" wich resulted in more long passes, but not too much really. Now suddenly the AI seems to know what it wants to do with the ball, but the ping pong effect is very little, if any at all... depends on the team really. Now with these cards activated, even crappy players does something sensible with the ball, the biggest difference is that they fail to do what they're trying to do. One of the biggest gripes with orignial PES2010 OF is that AI doesen't seem to have a clue what to do next 90% of the time, but they defend like maniacs.

I know this edit will take ages for you console dudes, but I urge you to back up your OF, add these edits to two teams and watch them play in spectator mode and enjoy.

I watched four matches before I did anything else. (All 6 minute matches)
Argentina - Italy 4-2 (Extra Time)
Italy - Argentina 1-2 (Italy scored on penalty!!)
Argentina - Honduras 2-0
Argentina - Brazil 2-3 (Brazil got the winner on a penalty in the 80ish min)

I played two matches on Professional.
Argentina - Italy 1-3 (loss :erm:)
Argentina - Brazil 3-2 (Damn straight!! :w00t )

I started a BAL mode and went to Zaragoza (as usual...)
I play as striker this time, and I'm getting served really nice balls and have 4 goals in 3 matches in season 1, including Cup matches. The funniest part is that all the matches are really even so far, except against Valencia wich totally ripped us apart and we lost 1-3.

Currently in 15th place, 1 Win 3 Draws and 2 Losses despite my spectacular entrance into La Liga. My teams goal difference is 10-11 wich is about the same as the other teams around me on the table. Before I did this edit I would probably had conceded 4-5 goals less.
I expect not to keep the game / goal ratio though, as it is really hard and I've gotten quite lucky so far.
My player is 1.68, a curly little quick bastard with 86 Agility... the next Maradona

Worth mentioning that I have seen adtionally two penalties in BAL so far, along with the two penalties I mentioned above that makes 4 penalties in the 9 matches I've played since adding this fix. It may ofcourse be coincidental, but I suspect that tackles are harder to do when the player in possession isn't just standing there wonderring what to do.

I'll post further experience with this modification later.

When you say you highlighted the cards, do you mean you gave cards to players that didn't previously have them, or just turned on previously existing cards?

I gave them to everyone that did not have them.

I agree that it takes away the "special" feeling of those who already had these cards highlighted, but I prefer a smashing good gameplay over individuality in this case.

Currently testing if "Passer" is all that is needed to get the effect.

Interesting stuff! I ran into an file on evo-web, where the stats were globally edited. I thought the gameplay was pretty good, though strange because all the defense and attack stats were scaled way down. It still played fine though. If you are interested I suggest you take a look, the gameplay had more fouls and felt more physical. Maybe a combination of global stat and slider editing can make pes 2010 perfect. I think it is pretty cool how these stats actually affect the way the game plays. If only Konami had customizable stat based referees we would be able to fix everything.

The more recent files are on the last page.

Yeah, that'd be great. It's possible to tweak everything else for better gameplay ( though we shouldn't have to be doing it!). It's a pain that the ref's can't be fixed, dammit.
Also, seriously, theres a 100% definite noticeable difference for the better in Winning Eleven 2010. The Superstar level of difficulty is a different ball game

I reinstalled Sammy_K's of and gave all players "passer" card and gave all CF, WF, SS, AMF, SMF and CMF the "Reaction Card" except those AMF players that have the "Classic no. 10" activated. (Only Riquelme as far as I know)

I tuned the team sliders for "Professional"
+10 pressure
+20 player support
+10 defensive line
-30 Attacking style
-35 Compactness
+10 position switch

When I was done I went over top clubs and national teams like Brazil, Italy, Argentina, England, Barcelona, Arsenal, Man U. etc. and set their Compactness to 40-45 to make sure these teams offer more challenge.

I globally set all goalkeepers to "Defensive", but I also put minimum keeper aggression to 75, GK's are much smarter when rushing out now, and doesent charge duels between defender and attacker quite as much.
I set minimum agression for all outfield players at 75 as well, and a cap at 90 for all outfield players. This ensures that when playing 5 minute matches the AI won't hug the ball in their own side for a minute.

There is no need to tamper with agression if you play 10 minute matches or longer.

Assisted Settings, all teams:
Lineup 2 (Makes AI choose the best possible starting 11 depending on form and ability)
Auto Form Change 1 (Makes AI change positions slightly to suit the subs)
Attack Balance 4 (Instrumental to make AI attack with flair and not use the same old patterns)

NOTE: The AI performs really well with the default 4-3-1-2 tactic.

Conclusion: All teams play well, the quality of the players on the team determines how successfull they are however. You really notice the difference between playing against Italy or Honduras now, although Honduras are quite capable of scoring, Italy are prone to net 1-3 goals unless you are carefull.

There has been a slight increase in free kicks in dangerous positions, and more yellow cards as a result, there has also been a slight increase in Penalties awarded. I assume it is a result of the increase in passing accuracy due to the "Passer" card, because defenders find themselves on the back-heel much more frequently now and need to make critical tackles much more than before.

As a note, I played two world cups last night and saw three penalties in each tournament, 2 for me and 1 against in the first, and 2 against me and 1 for me in the second tournament.
I can also mention that while I won the first tournament, Spain kicked my ass in the second final, I have not lost a PES2010 match on professional level without having edited the OF like this or similar in a very long time. Never have the defeat been so deserved either.

I consider this a "final product" and will not be doing more testing to tweak any more, I am completely satisfied. I'll try to get an OF up for download as soon as possible, but since I use a self modified Sammy_k's OF myself I can't upload the one I use personally. I strongly advice you to add these modifications to your own personal OF favourite.

Can't believe we have to edit the way the computer plays to get a good game, which is exactly my gripe when 'cards' and 'sliders' were announced, because I know what the developers are like and knew we'd be expected to change things to get the AI working and that's just not acceptable.

However, I felt the AI was better in ML after I made the changes, but people are saying you have to restart ML or BAL for it to take effect?

Some of the effects may possibly cross over, I don't really know that for sure. But i do know that some effects won't carry over to pre edit saves.
If you want the full effect of the edits done, you need to make a new savegame.

Sorry

PS. I completely agree that it's annoying that we need to do this to make the game playable. But since there are no other footy games worthwhile on the market at the moment, I'll sacrifice a few weeks of testing and editing to invest in hundreds of digital football entertainement hours hehe.

I use PES2010 Editor 1.8.1 by w!ld@

In the Global functions section you find all the tools you need to quickly turn your PES 2010 into a gem of a game.
In the top left corner you can choose between all players or just one position. If you want to make a change to keepers only, choose "GK" in the drop down menu.

Look down to the Other section, below Abilities and Special abilities, and open the drop down menu (Injury by default) and highlight A/D Awareness. In the drop down menu right next to it, you find another drop down menu (+ by default), change it to = for this particular edit. In the drop down menu below (Attack minded by default) highlight Defence minded and press Change.

Everything I've mentioned of tweaks to the OF above can be done using this editor, except "Assisted settings" wich you change within the game. Takes about 10 minutes to change all National teams and the five leagues. I have never bothered to change anything on the "other leagues" teams because I never use them. I play BAL and World Cups mostly.

If you make a backup of your Option File before making the tweaks you can figure it all out in 10 minutes by trial and error.

C:\Users\your user\Documents\KONAMI\Pro Evolution Soccer 2010\Save\PES2010_Edit.bin (make a backup of this file)
This is path on windows 7, similar directories on Vista and XP... you'll figure it out :)

A good idea is to use a player on the first page in the Players & Transfers section as control subject. Take a screenshot of all his stats before you start editing, and check the result by comparing the screenshot. I usually use "Abe" or "Inamoto" and for GK, "Kawaguchi".

Good luck ;)

I don't mind having cards and sliders, just as long as the developers put in the time too.

If they leave it up to us, then yes it sucks, and it also leaves the game at risk of being unplayable regardless of any user adjustments.
