Completely disagree. PES 2008 is more of a tweaked version of PES4 in my opinion.
PES5 was more like an improved PES3 (slower, more subtle, good player dynamics). PES4 was all about speed, likewise PES 2008.

You do have a very good point though on this being a win win situation. Konami have had a kick up the arse. I will quite happily buy FIFA '09 if they stuff up the latest PES. Seabass has been riding his luck since PES6, which took well over a year to iron out online problems. Bring them both on. That's what I say.

PS. Can anyone help me design my own football game? I have the ideas. Just need someone to program it. My idea is very simple. It's all to do with momentum/acceleration. Something both PES and FIFA have never really addressed!

I don't know.. I think PES4 is pretty much the same game as PES6, I had them both and I never noticed a clear difference between them. They had the same exact Graphics, with the same exact system of "Stats and Special Abilites" -with- the same controls. I think PES6 was a tweaked versions of PES4 -and- I think PES4, PES5, and PES6 are more or less the same game with some slight tweaks.

Actually, I think PES5 was slightly more enjoyable than PES6 -but- still they where basically the same games with updated kits.

And as for PES08, it is plain BAD -PES6- was much better. Only thing positive about PES08 is the graphics, and that Konami covered the BASICS -so- now I suppose Konami sorted out some of the issues (flaws); the exaggerated importance of PACE, the Robotic Movements, the Lack of Player Attributes, etc, etc, etc.. the list of flaws is endless.

Anyways, you want to design your own Football game??

Pes 5 AI was the best. It had the right balance between defending and attacking. Pes 2008 was good also especially the graphics on HD. The only thing pes 2008 has that are really bad are the game speed and the fact that pace controls the match. In pes 5 it was not the case.

Depends on what platform you are playing PES or Fifa on. If like me, you game on a PC that could piss all over any 360 or PS3 twice over in terms of performance, then it is either going to be PES or nothing.

In their wisdom, EA have decided that FIFA09 on PC will be 'current gen' or PS2 style (which is actually VERY OLD GEN) whilst we all know that PES on the PC gets the so-called 'next gen' treatment.

So even the quality of the games turns out to be a repeat showing of last year with FIFA largely outclassing PES, for PC gamers, PES will have no competition.....which is not a good thing.

You're screwed.. you know that, right???

Still, why doesn't any company makes a great Football game for PC?? It puzzles me that apart from EA Sports and Konami, there's not a single company interested in producing The best Football game for PC.

After all, a PC should be better than any PS3 or 360 -and- most people have PCs. So I really don't understand why no one else has bothered to make a Football game that outclasses any PS3 Football game.

i think the only reason that a pc is better than the games consoles is because they can be heavily modded and alot more can be added but on the level of gameplay and graphics i am yet to see a pc game that is for better than console versions

On pro evo online they should have a mode where you select any player in the world and make your own starting 11. i think it would be very good and no, not every1 will choose the same old players

I kind of don't understand. This year, Fifa 08 had the more realisitic gameplay and PES 2008 felt a bit like an arcade game. Yet people are still complaining about goals being too easy to score in Fifa 08. In top difficulty in Fifa 08, even taking an accurate shot from 25 yards out is quite a challenge.

if people just stopped playing with the D-pad then konami could base some bloody real animation using the stick to control the player. if i dont see some moving footage soon im gonna go crazy. i just wanna know. will it be shit or good!!

^But the D pad gives you much better control than the stick. You could always press the stick a bit wrong and bump into the defender and end up loosing the ball.
Both fifa and Pro look very good from the screenshots that Whoa09 posted.

yh i know what you mean cos i used to play it on the ps2 but i have a 360 now so i use the stick and once used to it i realised how much better it was. the ps3 sticks are a little different so i guess it may be harder on that

There's no doubt that the crowd in FIFA is better than the crowd in PES -but- I have to say that in my opinion the player's faces in PES09 look better than the ones I've seen in FIFA09.

Just look at Tevez and Messi, they are spot-on. If only Konami also edited the faces of Maradona, Pele, Cruijff, and the rest of the CLASSICS.

Overall, I think FIFA haves better Crowds and Stadiums -and- PES haves more realistic looking Players.

And again, the Graphics are really a non-factor nowadays -because- both FIFA and PES have good graphics. The decisive difference will be the gameplay and the controls.

The stick will always be better, it just takes a little getting used to. Once you get it right, you'll forget about the D-pad.

Why not? I remember sending off game designs about ten years ago. Got a week long stint at Psygnosis (the original creators of Wipeout) in Liverpool, but failed to get through. They had us designing levels using the original Quake level design technology. BTW I can't program. I'd need someone to do that!

My idea for a football game would have some major differences from Pro Evo and FIFA. For one, forget about image rights/sponsorship. Aint happening. Too expensive. Would have to start as simply the blue versus the red team (or green, yellow purple).

Dynamics wise though this is what I want to see. I want to see fluid body motion. I want to see players building up significant speed (a la Ronaldo), but then the control of the player would be severly hampered. For example, Ronaldo could make sharp turns and shimmies at slight angles at top speed, but wouldnt be able to stop immeadiately. Therefore, you would have a trade off. Lets say your defender is pegging it after a striker, the striker simply side steps, and the defender cannot stop his run, and ends up over running. PES does have these concepts in a very basic form, but not in a very realistic way. I want to see the players I'm controlling almost running on ice (not that extreme, but you get the point). A skilled player would be able to run at top speed at an opponent, and then use momentum to dodge/fly by the defender. A player with lesser skill would either run into the defender, or end up mis controlling the player/ball.

I want to re-create the whole body dynamics of football. Imagine playing a footie game and doing the Pele body swerve of the 1970 Mexico World Cup. How cool would that be? (only this time, you'd score from it).

I'd have to strongly disagree, the analog stick for the Xbox 360 gives you full motion and therefore more control and options. The D-Pad was always my first choice when I played the PS2 versions, but now we're next-gen, the D-Pads are just limited to what you can do in comparison to an analog stick.

yer agreed i think that its also because of the position of the analog stick on the controller for the xbox wich makes it easy to use....i have pes on ps3 and i can only use the analog but its a bit anoying its far away but i get used to it..... the analog stick i feel has alot more response.

If you turn pass assistance and make everything manual fifa 08 is excellent and better than pes 360. I still am more excited about pro though and if the gameplay is improved pes 09 will be back at the top.

Well yes but I meant in PES 2008 the analogue is not good enough. The 360 controller is a huge advantage over the ps2 one.
