You can assassinate the Pope; there's some great little movies to go with it as well if you actually succeed.

He's in Rome, you send the Assasin over there, perhaps a spy too. He should be in the settlement.

If you wanna build up your assassins you wanna go for easy targets first like emissarys and princesses. When your skill slowly builds up and you can go for harder targets.

Exactly.

Having an Assassin's Guild in one of your cities also helps, as they are automatically produced with two or three skill points or traits.

You can't build them wherever you can though. Each city offers you a guild upgrade as it grows.

It's possible that the guilds are region related, because i was offered to build a Knights Hospitaller lodge in Tunis. They are a crusader order of knights that specialize in escorting and protecting pilgrims. They're very tough bastards.

I can't wait to get a hold of Jerusalem. It's likely that i'll be able to build a Templars guild over there.

I hate the cunts but it'll be nice to use them, as they are a hard core elite unit.

This game is the best strategy game out there and no other is in its league. I am an experienced player and of course i can see certain flaws, battles being too easy being one of them and certain AI problems such as alliances collapsing far too easy. Battles in shogun and the original medieval may not have had the stunning visuals but it had the best gameplay and AI its as simple as that.

Yeah, the diplomacy is so nonsensical at times.

Like for instance, the French refusing a ceasefire when i'm by far the strongest faction in Northern Europe.

A French Prince asked me to take out his father so he could rise to the throne and i can only accomplish the mission if i assassinate him. It doesn't count if i send an army down to Angers and kill him in battle.

How silly is that?

The AI during battle is not that bad, but it could be better.

I played some of my greatest Total War battles in Medieval. The enemy there would move according to your movements. Aattack, retreat back into the woods, regroup, etc. You felt as though the AI adapted to your every move.

I love my retinue longbowmen.

I just upgraded my Woodsman's Guild, and what do i get?

Sherwood Archers.

Anyway, i requested a crusade to Jerusalem. My king and his fleet have just crossed Gibraltar and are approaching the Tunisian coastline.

I need to conquer 45 provinces before time runs out, so i suppose that the obvious course of action is to conquer non-Christian lands - or what we Catholics like to call, Heathen cesspools.

I will invade the Holy land and convert it in my base of operations in the middle eastern region, from whence i shall subdue all their peoples.

Hmm, that's got a familiar ring to it.

The gay part, is that the troops started deserting two turns after we left port, while we were in mid voyage in open waters.

EDIT: I just typed an elaborate description of my voyage through the Mediterranean and of how stupid sea desertions are, but it took me some time and by the time i saved i was logged off and forgot to right click and save the text, so everything was lost. Anyway, i think the game needs some sort of patch. Since when does it take years to cross the Mediterranean Sea?

I lost all my army at sea and the Pope canceled the crusade one turn before i make it to the coast. It's pathetic.

I have begun playing with the Moors and i'm loving it.

I have conquered the whole of Iberia. The Spanish and Portuguese cultures are but a memory in the minds of the many Hispanic-Arabian bastards that now inhabit the land.

The Egyptians have dared to break our two decade long alliance and are now massing in Cairo and preparing an offensive on Tripoli, which lies in the eastern border of my vast Empire.

It is just what i had been waiting for.

Expanding into Europe would be too difficult. Their cavalry and infantry are far too heavy for the troops that i can command right now, so i will just fortify Pamplona and Zaragoza. Let them come if they are men!

The only problem is having to deal with Crusades. Each Christian army sends a huge army our way, and fighting each one them off can be tricky. We usually have to meet them on the field, otherwise they all camp outside the Castle walls and wait for the others to arrive.

I will post a few pictures of Moorish units later. My favorite at the moment are Granadine Jinetes, whom i have dubbed the Mop Up Crew.

They look super, are frighteningly fast and are great for breaking up light infantry units. It's a joy to chase down fleeing armies with these guys because they throw Javelins at them as they try to escape. :)

Good news about the expansion. Sorry about the grammar as it sounds to be have been posted by a dribbling quadro spase:

The Addon will contain 4 Campaigns, with new faction(bolded):

* Britain: With England, Wales, Scotland, Norway, Ireland.
* Crusade: Two Alliances vs. Each other: Jerusalem + Antiochia vs Egypt, Byzantines, Turks and all together vs. Mongols
* New World: Azteks, Maya, Apache,Tarasken, Chichimeken, Tlaxkalteken and Spanish Settlers under Cortez
* East Europe: With German Knights, Poland, Lithuania, Denmark, Novgorod

- Moats added around castles
- They also added "Special abilities" for the historical persons in the 4 campaigns: Richard I. can collect fleeing troups, Emperor Manuel of Byzanz can "confuse" enemy units, that they hit themself.
- The campaings have different targets and a different way of playing it. In the Eastern, the religion plays a big role (because of unrest and unit development -> u can only build teutonic knights in a catholic area) in the New world if you play the spanish have only few Units and you have to look for alliances and trading routes.
- More units on a battlefield.
- You can build Forts with water around it.... keep their position and which you also can conquer and use for urself.
- More + Different Mission Targets: A noble man apears and asks for your help in a combat. If you are successfull, your reward will depend to how you won (how many you killed).
- In the Britain Scenario you can make as enemy of England an alliance with renegate(?) english aristocrats. They ask for your help, to conquer a town. If you give them the town after the victory, they will found a new anti-english fraction "Allianz der Barone"!

To me the expansion sounds fucking amazing and well worth buying. I want all this stuff confirmed though first by CA. The British campaign has been confirmed as being set in the 10th century (Vikings and Saxons for all you dumb cunts) and I really can't wait for the Baltic Crusade and New World campaigns - hell, the whole thing really. There's going to be 150 new units also, and apparently there will be in unit fighting. And no more unit limits! If you bring 3 full armies to the battlefield, you will have full control over all of them from the off, you don't have to wait for reinforcements if you want to control them all! This should be the best expansion yet. Its due in the Summer apparently.
