What about the 9600XT with 256Mb? Does that compete with the premier league cards?

as far as am concerned.. that card is at the top of the B section.. i would almost put it in the PL, so yea.. it is a quality card.. and is excellent for the budget gamer...

I installed the 61.77 driver for my Nvidia Geforce FX 5900.
But it made it worser than before.
I used to have a little stuttering, but not much.
No its more than before.
I play in 1074-768 res.
And everything high.

I own a P4 2.8GHZ
512 Ram.
Geforce FX 5900 VTD 128

What can i do to get it running better.
I think i have a good computer that shouldnt have these problems.

Greetings.

Try to adjust the settings a little.. you might have Anti-aliasing on some crazy setting (this KILLS performance, you might also have Anisoptric filtering on as well, (this also KILLS performance, if you ahve either of these things on turn em off..

if no change then, do a disk cleanup (but uncheck the compress old files it can also decrease performance). after you do that do a Defrag, this will most likely take a couple of hours.. but will help to keep the HDD orderly...

if still no fix.. have a look at how many programs you have running in the task bar area

if there are any more than 6, then you really should look at closing some of these.. some you may be able to do manually.. but.. if you go into 'msconfig' then you can close them permanantly, but dont go in there unless you know what you're doing.. if ya dont know what you;re doing in there.. then let me know and i will give ya a breif introduction...

Radeon 9600 Pro 256Mb DDR AGP Question

Hi,

I have an ASUS P4B533 m/board that supports up to x4 AGP (1.5v). My main bus is running at 533Mhz BTW.

I am looking at getting a Radeon 9600 Pro 256Mb graphics card.

Now this supports up to x8 AGP. My only concern is would the x4 restriction affect performance or playability?

Any opinions very appreciated.

Steve :)

the difference between 4x APG and 8x APG, is marginal.. although the names suggest other wise... it is only between 5 - 10 percent.. at most..

I have a similar board and a similar vidcard.. i have an ASUS P4PE 533 APG 4x, and a Radeon 9700.. and every game performs great... DOOM3 @ 1024 v 768 all settings max except AA and AF were turned off.. pretty awesome.. for a comp thats 18 months old really.. so.. unless you are picky and con afford a mobo upgrade.. do not worry about it..

I aren't that picky so will probably get the card.

Thanks for the quick reply BTW.

Is it just my opinion that Radeon Cards are always that little bit better than the Ge Force range?

Nope, not just your opinion, it's a lot of other peoples opinions as well. It's still just a question of personal preference though.

From personal experience i have had better luck with Radeon cards.

Reviews on the different brands also show the Radeon cards just a tad better performance.

The 9200 was a bit better than my fx 5200.

The 9600XT was also a little better than it's rival- the FX5700 during many tests by independant sources.

Thats why I 've decided to wait 5 days to get my 9600XT 256Mb online rather than settle for the 5700. I think it's worth being patient.

yea.. most games these days seem to slightly favour some games.. like Doom3, it optimised for use on Nvidia Cards.. but.. Half-life 2 is optimised for use on ATI cards... so.. it can really depend on what your playing...

Maybe so, but I doubt the casual gamer is going to notice the difference.

I favour the Radeon cards personally because I have had better luck on PES3 with Radeon Cards. Other games would probably not show much difference but PES4 is going to be the most played game on my computer so I have to go with what performs best on this game.

well i have never purchased an Nvidia Card.. and i am glad that i have never had one.. these days it seems to be more down to brand loyalty than anything else...

You know what mate, in all honesty, I dont really know anything about that card. Truth is, as once resident graphics card expert, I hardly keep up now days, as I do most of my gaming on console and as for PCs, well i just really dont have the time. I am lucky if i can even get a game of something, and most of that is done at night, after work. At present I have no plans really to upgrade my card so i've not been looking. anyways, my card will still do the business for a few years yet. But all i can say about that card, is i guess its prob pretty good. I mean Nvidia improved after their poor FXs that were on the market a year ago. Just have a ook around on the net, or google for some info on it, i'm sure you'll get some comparisons.

Sorry for the lack of help mate, good luck!

The PC Powerplay magazine did a test on the Ge Force 6600GT. After reading their test I wished I had one. At the highest resolutions it is supposed to be twice as fast as the X600XT and in australia the X600XT is $340 and the 6600GT is $399.

Maybe NVidia have got their act together and overtook ATI.

Well the graphics card war is outgoing so any advantage gained is usually trimmed within a few weeks or months, as is the pace of competition between these 2 rivals. Only thing is, i cant keep up!!!!
